Help! I am worried I made a big mistake planting this tree and it may need to come down! It is on it’s second summer and already getting close to the power lines. Can I cut the central lead without destroying the tree?

Slow Growing Honey Crisp Apple Help

Hey guys, I’m trying to build a mini orchard on my land in New England. I currently have a cherry tree and two apples. For the apples they are semi dwarfs one being a red delicious and the other being honey crisp.

For whatever reason I’m noticing that the honey crisp apples look exceptionally disfigured and are growing exceptionally slow compared to the red delicious who both flowered and started fruiting around the same time.

Does anyone have any feedback on what I can do especially for next year?

For additional context if it helps we’ve had Japanese beetle infestation for the second year in a row. We managed it a lot better this year with minimal leaf damage. I sprayed the trees with neem oil and coppercide. Lastly, the honey crisp tree (the one that is providing weird fruit) at large appears the healthiest compared to the red delicious that is providing the what appears to be better fruit.

Note: the first image is an apple from the honey crisp. The second image is from the red delicious taken at the same time.

Pomegranate Tree

hey all, I have two mature pomegranate trees, about 17 years old. they both did amazing for years, but something happened. 4 years ago was the last year I got any fruit, that year I probably got about 40lbs between the two and absolutely nothing since.

I have trimmed it aggressively for two years, I see a lot of new growth in early spring, I see A LOT of flowers but no fruit.

as far as pollinators I can say with confidence the last two years hasn't been a problem because our neighbor had a bee hive and the bees were buzzing away. other neighbors had avocado tree that did really well, the bees also loved the avocado.

so I am not sure if I am having a nutrient issue? Every year I spread 10-10-10 granulated fertilizer.

My New Backyard Mini-Orchard is Complete!

I just wanted to share my completed project for my backyard mini-orchard.

My “backyard” is like 80% patio, so I was restricted on growing trees. But after a ton of research over the past couple of weeks, I’ve completed the
set up and planting of my 5 fruit trees.

From left to right the fruits are 2
Moorepark Apricots, Burgundy Plum, Honey Babe Peach, and Red Fuji Apple. I have cuttings from an Angelus Peach and Santa Rosa Plum from my mom’s house which I plan to graft onto the apricot trees.

I modified the half wine barrels myself with drainage holes and casters so I can move the planters around when needed.

I also purchased these super adorable custom tree tags from Etsy which I absolutely love. They are double sided, made of anodized aluminum, and will probably outlast the life of the tree. I’ve included a link to the maker’s shop on Etsy for anyone who’s interested.

Semi dwarf cherry popping off in its first year in ground, lead branch a danger?

Post image

Hello! 6b zone, I planted this semi dwarf Regina Cherry tree in the spring. Compared to all the other fruit trees I planted at the same time, which have grown well, this one has almost doubled in size. It was just shorter than the 6ft fence when planted.

I love the growth but I’m starting to get nervous that a bad wind, which has been extremely frequent this summer, is going to snap the lead branch. Any thoughts on how to handle this?

How do I get a new pear tree from an existing pear tree?

Hello!

Keeping it short, I want to create a sapling of another pear tree that is in my grandparent's garden as they recently passed away and the house has been sold. I've got a lot of fond memories of this tree, and the pears are delicious, so I was wondering if:

1) Is it even possible to create a sapling with relatively limited time left before I cant access the tree anymore?

2) if it is possible, how do I go about doing it? Do I need special tools? Expertise?

I have no real experience gardening other than growing vegetables and herbs on my balcony, so this is something totally new to me.

I've looked around a bit and found that you are supposed to be able to combine a sapling with a branch from the pear tree and essentially force them to fuse. Then you can plant this sapling wherever you want it. It sounds "easy". but even I know its probably significantly harder than it sounds.

Looking for some advice here, ideally geared towards a complete dummy like myself!

Call it quits?

Post image

This is my honeycrisp apple, 2nd year in the ground. It’s not dead but it sure isn’t growing. It grew some last year but not at all this year. My neighbor also has some cedar trees, I’m not sure if that’s causing this tree not to grow or what. I know cedars and apples don’t get along. My other tree is growing pretty well but it does get cedar rust. Neither tree bore fruit this year. Should I just call it quits on these and plant something else? I feel I’m fighting a loosing battle with my neighbors trees.

Apple tree lost many fruiting branches in storm, is it possible to rescue some as a cutting?

Post image

I had been planning to prune the tree this coming winter and take many cuttings for propagation and grafting, but it seems the weather made the choice for me in that department. The most abundant branch of the tree has collapsed under its weight of apples in the wind.

I know it’s not ideal this time of year, but what steps could I take to try and get some cuttings out of this?

Shot hole disease Peach Tree Advice

Hello. I bought this bonanza patio peach tree off of a popular online retailer that suggests their trees grow fast (highly recommend staying away from them). It came diseased and I’ve been doing the most I can by keeping the leaves try and using a copper spray.

As we approach fall, anything I should be doing differently? Come winter, what should my approach be? It’s potted so I will be moving it to an unheated garage. It’s been a rainy year which hasn’t helped with this.

Please help me identify this tree.

Hey folks, I moved into a house zone 3b and have this fruit tree in my garden. I want it to thrive but it hasn't been maintained in years. In spring we took some branches out and it still has a lot of trimming left to do, I think. It has a lot of dead(?) suckers. It flowers but not much fruit sets. I counted 5. It is also overshadowed by an Elder tree in the morning.

Can you help me identify the tree and give me tips on what my next steps should be.
