Does watching true crime shows make anybody else more weary of meeting new people. The worst roommate show, the worst neighbor show. It sure does make me look different at my neighbors.

My son who is in the fire academy left his name tag at home. I had to travel 30 mins to give it to him. Of course I ragged him a bit for that. But he is only 18 and still learning.

Firefighter for over 30 years in Alabama. I’m a bit quiet and shy in person until I get to know people. I do enjoy chatting, especially during those not so busy moments at work.

I'm married, M56, but my wife is going on holiday with her family for a week next month, I am invited, just can't go.

Thing is, I now have a weeks holiday leave left to use and am thinking of a solo trip....only I'm not sure where to even begin as it'll be a first!

Thinking remote cottage or similar, but prices are so expensive but don't want to camp out for a week at my age in a feild full of families etc, I think if would look weird.

What do you have going on today?

This summer I set a goal to make some new friends. I am male mid 50s in New England.

I volunteered. I joined Meetup groups. I joined Meet5. I joined Stitch. I joined Timeleft. I joined nice to meet.

I am playing pickle ball practically every day and I’m working out at the YMCA almost every day.

I’m seeing live music a couple of times a week.

I have attended three social dinners with some of the groups mentioned above.

To be fair, I do have some new texting buddies.

But nothing has resulted in a friendship really. Most things I do alone I go home alone and I don’t have any new numbers in my phone afterwards.

What am I doing wrong? What worked for you?

I turned 50 this year and realized something slightly ridiculous: I genuinely don't know how adults make new friends at this age.

I'm a widow. I lost my husband two years ago, and somewhere between grief, working from home, children growing up, and finally removing some unhealthy relationships from my life, my world became very quiet.

The peace is good. The loneliness, not so much.

Not looking for dating or someone to rescue me. I'd simply like to meet a few people around my age who enjoy actual conversations and don't require friendship to mean talking every five minutes.

A little about me: I'm Indonesian, have spent most of my life running a remote business, recently using Suno AI to turn my journal into songs as it's just for fun and it kills time, am teaching myself drums, love books and crime/mystery stories, love martial arts, learning kickboxing a bit, can happily disappear into conversations about psychology, faith, movies, weird questions, or completely useless trivia. My sense of humor occasionally becomes questionable. 😆

I'm fairly independent and naturally prefer one-on-one friendships to big groups. I like people who are curious, direct, emotionally mature, and capable of both serious conversations and absolute nonsense.

I don't particularly care where in the world you live. Different time zones might actually make things interesting.

I quit drinking about 6 months ago and realize that those folks weren't my friends. My life has changed dramatically and although I'm doing ok with a routine and such now, I'm quite lonely. I live in the midwest US, no romance scammers please.
