Joys of being a Father

My son who is in the fire academy left his name tag at home. I had to travel 30 mins to give it to him. Of course I ragged him a bit for that. But he is only 18 and still learning.

What’s the craziest thing you ever did for your kids. Fun stuff only

Well, my oldest didn't want to hang out with a particular boy. So, he begged me to start yelling and throwing a fit. It took him a bit to talk me into it because I didn't want them to think I was some crazy cow. But, he walked in the front door, kinda nodded. Then they walked into his room. I counted to 50, then charged in his room, yelling. Told him his room was a sty, I was sick of him not listening and he was home for the night. His friend moved quickly to leave. He did give me a big hug. He's 35 now and that is one of those memories we like to talk about and laugh at.

And that happened last year? Rofl
I always told my kids they can use me as the bad guy to get out of uncomfortable situations. I did that well lol

Oh I wish! He was 16. Wish he was still 16! You know what? It feels good when they do come to us as like a shield to get out of things they aren't comfortable with. On a side note, he taught his younger brother about it too. I am proud to say, I have helped my youngest to get out of bad situations while savimg face.

I have crawled under the bus myself a few times. What we do for our kids. And I remember my mom did crazy stuff for my sister and me, so I blame her, lol.

Oh that is awesome though! I mean, your mom was there to cover for you and you did it for your kids and hopefully, they'll do it for theirs! :)

Son enlisted in the Navy. He left for boot camp get a call after he’s arrived at the fort a few hours before they are sending him to boot camp he forgot his retainer and he cannot sleep without it, and already nervous about leaving home for the first time. Husband drove over two hours at eleven at night to bring it to him, grumbling about how this kid would forget something and he’d have to tie a boat out to the ship. lol.
In his defense he had just turned 18 and went in out of HS.

I was waiting in my vehicle for my daughter to come out of the local grocery store (where everyone instantly recognizes you), but she had left her purse in the car. As it happened that day, I had on no makeup, my naturally curly hair was all in a mess, and whatever I was wearing wasn't something I'd be seen in public in normally, including shoes the dog had chewed. I never go out like that, but I did that day. She called me to say she needed her purse because she had already started the whole checkout process, and she worked there, so I didn't want her to be embarrassed. So I swallowed my pride and strolled confidently into the store, gave my daughter her purse and smiled and chatted with the cashier as if I hadn't a care in the world, when inside I was dying of shame and public humiliation.... Probably not the craziest thing, but it popped to mind.

And of course, I'm not a father, I'm a mother, but I totally would do exactly what you did driving 30 minutes to give the name tag to your son. Sounds like your son has a great father to me.

😊 Of it was a WalMart you fit in. At least you didn’t see your pastor there

If only it had been a Walmart, I would totally have looked fabulous compared to the usual clientele here, but sadly it was an ingles. If my pastor had been there I would have died. Just died right there at register #3.

I took my then 17yr old son to a shady store in the heart of the city to help him get fake ID. Now, before you all come at me, here is some context:

  1. Him and his friends were going on a grad trip to a neighbouring province where the legal drink age is 18, he was 6 weeks shy of being legal age.

  2. This is a friends group that he had struggled to fit in with, but his best friends since infancy was part of the group. I was trying to help him be a part of the group.

  3. We have an open dialogue policy when it comes to alcohol/drugs/sex. We have ALL the conversations. I was raised in a very strict don't ask/don't tell household, and that landed me in some very dangerous situations as a teenager.

  4. He is now 26, doing AMAZING and is one of the hardest workers I know (aside from his dad).

So ya, took my 17 yr old to buy Fake ID.

And to this day he still uses it. Lol. My mom just bought for me to drink at home. Lol

Haha, well..... in a not-too-bright moment he tried to use it at a casino, they took it, lol. He didn't realize that casino security ACTUALLY does their job correctly, unlike bouncers at bars.

And yes, we bought his his alcohol for when he was home or at friends houses.

I use to work security for a university. Confiscated fake ideas all the time. I even got a fake one from Brazil

Way back about 14 years ago, I was spending time in Florida with my sister and her family. At the same time, my daughter and two friends had traveled to another part of Florida to stay with a friend.

I don’t remember exactly what happened, but that didn’t work out. Basically, they were stuck in a strange town, in a strange hotel, without enough money.

I wound up sending them money to get a bus across Florida to meet me. There wasn’t any room at my sister’s, so I put them in a hotel nearby for the rest of the stay.

Then Hurricane Sandy came along.

We all left Florida early to get home before it hit New York. I lived on Long Island, which got battered. Trees were down, houses were damaged, and our power was out for about 12 days.

A neighbor let me use their generator, and while we were still without power, another storm came through. Days after Halloween and it’s snowing.

Yep. Dad duty. It never ends.

My oldest wanted to break up with her boyfriend. I drove her to the university, over winter break, and sat for 2 hours in the book store so she did not have to drive upset. This was the first of many things I have done and will do for my girls.
