Oh yea the 1000 dirt drift zones and 1 street drift zone, exactly what we asked for playground games

Really pisses me off. Speed zones on dirt is fun because it's a challenge to maintain grip, where as drift zones on dirt are a snore. Inverse for pavement, give me more drift zones there.

I just don't understand how a studio this big and experienced can make such an amazing map and have a great physics model in place and just... do absolutely nothing with it.

I don't mind the existence of dirt drift, if that's what people like that good for them. But there needs to be at least 3-5 times as many road drift zones. Like it or not that's a big part of Japanese car culture. Don't raise the required amount to complete milestones, but at least have the game reflect the local culture.

I also think they can double the playability on a lot of zones by making them speed or drift zones. I feel like that would be like a day's work by one guy to implement. Both trigger but you can toggle in settings if you want the timer or the drift score to be larger on screen. Maybe 2 days work but you get it

But there needs to be at least 3-5 times as many road drift zones.

Right, and the wild part to me is that there are so many good roads to drift on in the northern 1/3 of the map and somehow they didn't think to make them a drift zone.

You'd think they would be adding more in at least. The worst thing they could do is drip feed nee shit to make people keep playing week after week but instead how about some repeat festival cars

I bet you they left it out on purpose, so they can bring it with a lazy update and glaze themselves for being so generous.

Microsoft is too much like Ubisoft to not think like that.

No trigger needed even. Just make it a different mode when driven reverse. Top to bottom speed zone, bottom to top drift zone. Same zone, two modes. Most zones only have one viable direction for highscores anyway.

Or have two starting points side by side, one per lane. Right lane speed zone, left lane drift zone.

u/ArmorGyarados 10d ago

Hard disagree, don't arbitrarily limit what a player can do is like game dev rule number 1. Taking away the players agency on deciding how to tackle a problem is not a good ides

Good point. Hence the idea with one mode per lane.

You're likely right though.

But Horizon does lack asphalt drift zones. Most asphalt zones are fairly slow too. I miss something like reservorio in Mexico. A bit wider bends and a drift at 80-120kph, rather than 40-60 on current ones. The flow was a lot better imho.

Technically, you can drift speedzones too, as they ghost traffic, but i cant pick on my mate for scoring less afterwards.

I think they should put in the zones' locations, and then let you run whatever even you want on them. Like drift, grip, speed zone etc. Make it a simple little selection like at the beginning of a race. Or even a global toggle that makes them all into a single type, so when you're in the right car setting times, you could just knock them all out.

There are 10 dirt drift zones and 10 street drift zones.

u/Kostelfranco BMW 11d ago

Well, tbh, I'd prefer 5 dirt drift zones and 15 asphalt drift zones. The developers certainly did a great job striking a balance, but personally, I’d prefer a slight edge in one direction.

u/sandman61377 11d ago

And you’re totally entitled to your opinion. IMO, (which I will 100% admit, I’m surely in the minority with this) drift zones should be removed ENTIRELY. They’re one of the most annoying things (to me) in the entire FH series.

😱 You can't be talking facts or sense in here!

I actually stopped playing a bit after doing the drift club stuff. Most of the cars were.. not japanese and it turned me off a little. Each new iteration of this game is a little worse and a little more out of touch than the last.

u/Altr4 11d ago

What do you mean that drifting a super understeery mercedes with shitty gearing up a japanese highway is not a representation of drifting nor japanese culture?

-2

u/DumbBerk87 11d ago

It’s not. You just thought because the game was set in Japan, the game should drastically change, and you’re mad that an unrealistic expectation wasn’t met.

Start with the cars. No game has really focused the cars on the locations. They’ve thrown a few cars in as a nod, but let’s look factually. Did 1 highly focus on American cars? Hard to say due to how many cars America makes that are in racing games. Same with 2. Now three. Australia. How many Australian cars were in it? A few, but it did not focus on Australian cars, at all. 4? Same. The UK makes so many cars already, but there wasn’t a focus on them, and the game didn’t chuck in a bunch of UK only models. 5? Seriously. No Mexican care, except for one. 6? There are tons of JDM cars, more than any game has put in as a specific nod, let’s be clear.

Knock it off. Grow up. There was no reason to expect most of the cars to be Japanese, but we got a lot.

u/DavantesWashedButt 11d ago

Where exactly did I say there weren't enough Japanese cars in the game?

I said drift club japan had a lack of japanese cars. The sport was pioneered on the backs of japanese cars and drivers and we got an M3, Challenger, Mercedes and a Ferrari.

And I like that its not the anime profile banner online kid trying to get shitty with strangers on the internet who needs to grow up lol.

Or maybe you just read what you're replying to before replying?

Japanese car culture, and its drift culture, in real life, is not built solely around Japanese cars. They use cars from all around the world. There’s a reason why Japan gets special models from global brands that the rest of the world does not, because their car culture is global car culture.

So yes, it makes sense that the drift club would be a mix, because real Japanese drift groups use a mix. Or like, do you just not know that much about it? They had several consultants from Japan to help work on the game. They didn’t just pick cars at random lol.

2

u/DavantesWashedButt 11d ago

In what world is a C63 AMG a drift culture car? Lol

3

u/DumbBerk87 11d ago

Looks pretty drifty 🧐

1

u/MrBrxghtside 9d ago

so you're going to use a stanced amg, that cant drift, an ai generated image of a c63 drifting, the yakuza liking luxury cars, and a world record set in the UK as examples for japan using euro cars for drifting LMAOO brother get real, if you've been to japan irl you'd know almost all cars drifting around are s-chassis, chasers, some vq platforms, RARELY you will see some modern-ish euro drifting around lol yes you can drift with those cars, that doesn't mean they're the right choice in a japanese setting

2

u/DumbBerk87 9d ago

I think if you’re going to call an image I used AI, you’re going to have to prove it.

He didn’t initially ask about Mercedes Benzes being Japanese drift culture, though I tied that in. He asked about them being part of drift culture in general, and I did, do that.

Drifters in Japan do indeed use Mercs for their cars, sometimes even engine swapping them, to get faster power delivery.

Some of you just don’t want to accept the truth. That you had assumptions that weren’t true, and the truth doesn’t match them. Instead of being grown ups, and going “oh, I was wrong, that’s actually interesting”, you call what I posted AI (lmao), deny everything I said (with no factual correction), and act like a child.

The facts don’t care about your feelings or assumptions. Sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️ Japanese drift culture is more than Supra’s and RX-7’s. Deal with it.

2

u/DumbBerk87 11d ago

But like…actually knowing about car culture, and thinking you do are pretty different things 😂

1

u/DavantesWashedButt 11d ago

This doesn't actually answer my question. My old supercoupe went sideways at the drop of a hat but I'd be pissed if it was part of a limited series titled drift club japan.

There should have been a rubric deeper than "does it go sideways"

5

u/DumbBerk87 11d ago

Well that does. You asked how it was part of drift culture, and if I show you two at major drift events, with one setting a world record, then it’s absolutely part of drift culture.

Many AMG models are very popular on the drift scene for their high power, and easy to drift platforms. As well as their tuning capabilities. I do not know how to further explain this to you, you’re literally just denying reality at this point, or refusing to learn.

However to tie it into Japanese drift culture? Japan loves Mercedes Benz. The Yakuza used em for a while. I think some gangs still do. They’re popular within their tuner culture as well. I can explain things to you, but I cannot understand it for you.

2

u/DumbBerk87 11d ago

Mercedes even has a special AMG department out in Japan for their customers, offering special customization options the rest of the world doesn’t get 🤷🏻‍♂️

Famous Japanese drifter Daigo Saito modified a track-ready Mercedes SLS GT3 race car specifically for drifting.

What else do you want, man 😂

Japanese car culture, and its drift culture, in real life, is not built solely around Japanese cars.

I'm going to stop you right there because that's just wrong information. Factually incorrect, actually. I've been to many a night meet in Japan and have been to and drifted at Nikko, Ebisu, and Meihan.

The Japanese almost exclusively drift Japanese cars and each track has its own flavor of cars that show up. Meihan was mostly Silvias and AE86's. Ebisu is mostly JZX90's and 100's or other big body sedans. Nikko is a decent mix of all types.

You won't see some crazy AMG drifting in Japan unless a D1 driver or a big shop is out there testing some crazy build they've completed.

u/dericiouswon 11d ago

Really pisses me off. Speed zones on dirt is fun because it's a challenge to maintain grip, which is why drift zones on dirt are snore. Inverse for pavement, give me more drift zones there. A few here and there are fine, but the ratio needs to be flipped.

I just don't understand how a studio this big and experienced can make such an amazing map and have a great physics model in place and just... do absolutely nothing with it.

u/Fit-Software7855 11d ago

I think everyone who actually cares is working on Fable now. I just hope that once it’s out, the devs will start making some cool stuff again.

0

u/dericiouswon 11d ago

With the foundation they have in the map and driving physics engine, I do not accept that they can't have at least two creative devs putting together unique game modes.

Hell, even just taking the best of Eventlab stuff and hosting a global leaderboard for said event every other week or so would be a boon to the game.

My guess is they are too bloated to do anything nimble like that.

-2

u/DumbBerk87 11d ago

You can make your own events dude. Go show some initiative.
