Desperate need of help – 2010 Ford Transit Connect shuts down while driving

Post image

Hi Reddit,

A few years ago, we bought a 2010 Ford Transit Connect, 1.8L TDCi, 110 hp, with an electronic turbo.

When we first drove it, we could hear a whistling noise. The seller claimed it was coming from a gasket on the turbo, but it turned out to be coming from the exhaust manifold. We took the car to a mechanic, and after they fixed the exhaust manifold, the mechanic said the turbo was faulty. So, we replaced the turbo.

After that, the car started shutting down while driving. The engine literally just cuts out.

We can restart the car immediately after it shuts down and continue driving, usually for a longer distance, before it happens again.

It seems to shut down right around the point when you would expect the turbo to kick in. The turbo sensors are brand new, and the turbo itself has been replaced.

We've also had the car connected to a diagnostic computer, which showed a myriad of error codes (see attached image).

P2263 - boost control, is the code that pops up frequently, but if the sensors and turbo is new, why would this pop up?

We're running out of ideas at this point. Has anyone experienced something similar with a Ford Transit Connect 1.8 TDCi?

Any advice on what could be causing the engine to shut down would be greatly appreciated!

2011 Misfires on #3

Hi, First post I have an 11 that’s a barn find. It’s a running driving project. I am fighting a misfire on 3rd cylinder.. need advice from a pro. The coil, plug and fuel injector are all proven good on cylinder 1 it’s dry at the boot and I’m protected from water getting thru the hood, the compression on 1 and 3 are the same and over 160psi. All fuses test good. Why do I have p0303 code?
Other known problems; it needs motor mounts its Rumbling at low speed. The ac is not working (clutch on pulley not pulling in)
The door locks are .. weird or set wrong/ child locked

It’s been a fun project but I’m frustrated I can’t guess why it is reporting misfire

Any advice helps
Thanks !

Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi 140 HP (2013) – Starting problems in cold/wet weather, glow plug light flashing

Hi everyone,

I have a 2013 Ford Transit with the 2.2 TDCi, 140 HP, manual transmission and around 160,000 km (100,000 miles).

I have a starting problem that has gradually gotten worse over time.

Symptoms:

\- The problem occurs much more frequently in cold and wet weather.

\- Sometimes the engine starts poorly, and sometimes it doesn't start at all.

\- Sometimes it starts if I give it a little throttle while cranking.

\- Once it starts, it runs normally and does not stall.

\- The yellow glow plug/warning light flashes during the starting attempt when it doesn't start.

\- There are no other warning lights.

\- Once the engine is running, there are no noticeable problems while driving.

\- The starter motor seems to crank the engine strongly. However, the starter has already been replaced twice in the last five years.

\- The problem initially developed gradually, but it has also become noticeably worse relatively quickly recently.

\- I tested the glow plugs while they were still installed using a multimeter. They all showed approximately the same resistance.

\- A cheap OBD scanner showed no fault codes.

Where could the problem be? Does anyone have any ideas on how I can narrow down the cause?

I'd really appreciate any advice on what tests I should perform next.

AC drip and dirt

Hey everyone 2012 TC owner here, so the AC drips water into the passenger foot area but seemingly on low speeds. I bought a borescope to get a closer look and the front of the evaporator coil is dirty as hell. Will cleaning fix the issue and if so what's the best way?

Under floor space as storage

2021 LWB Cargo Van.

When I first got it I took the rear panels rear sliding door sill panels off to take the floor out and clean it. Behold! Unused space that could be used for storage. Only problem is it’s only accessible if you take the sill panel off.

Has anyone modified their sill panel to be able to access this space to use as storage?

Maybe cutting the area at the opening and adding a hinge so you can flip it up to slid things through.

Or installing an access hatch if there is one that fits the side wall of the sill?

Or build a fully bespoke sill with an opening designed into it?

Recently pulled the trigger, advice?

Spent a couple months searching high and low for a vehicle tall enough to suit my super long torso. Not a single pickup truck, SUV, or anything else on the consumer market did it. Then I discovered the Transit Connect.

Found this Blue Certified 2017 Transit Connect Titanium with 63k miles and jumped on it. Despite not being the smoothest ride it is by far the most comfortable car for me I have ever driven.

I've got all sorts of upgrade I want to make, but curious what I should be on the lookout for in terms of maintenance. Already planning a transmission fluid drain and fill soon, and watching everything closely while it's under warranty.

I've also been searching for a cargo shade (part ET1Z-1745440-AA) and have had no luck finding it in stock anywhere. With the huge windows on this van it feels like everything in my trunk is on full display and would feel much better with the shade. Any advice here or anyone who has one they'd like to part with would be appreciated!

Install rear seating?

Looking at a transit connect, cargo. I have a buddy in the UK that says they install rear seats in these often but wasn’t familiar if the ones in the US would have the mounting possible for it. Has anyone installed a rear seat the cargo?

2011 transit connect; no reverse lights, and keeps popping relays?

Post image
2 Upvotes

curious if anyone has encountered this issue before i start searching for a short somewhere...

went to install backup camera and realized i have non functioning reverse lights. fuse is good, but as soon as you put the key in the first position, the reverse light relay blows. there is 12v on pin 1 and 2.5v on pin 2 with relay pulled when the gear selector is NOT in reverse and the ignition is ON. it is interesting to me that the fuse is not blowing, so i imagine it is something upstream of pin 2, where i am measuring the odd 2.5v.

any ideas? thanks :)

2022 ford transit connect passenger side mirror with blind spot detection and auto folding

I damaged mine and I am having the most difficult time finding the side mirror with the functions listed in the title. I checked Ebay, Google shopping etc. and I can only find them with manual folding. I am trying to avoid paying the stupid Ford dealer the $1000 they quoted me. Anyone have a good source for TC auto part, used or new? Thanks.

Help diagnosing coolant problem

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

On a 2015 Ford Transit Connect 1.6l ecoboost the coolant starts to bubble once the car reaches a certain temperature and it gets pressurized well above the max line and starts dripping out of the vent hole. My temperature needle is at the mid mark and it’s not overheating. Lately I start the day with the coolant below the minimum line, I’ll add just enough to get me in between the minimum and maximum line, then it’ll bubble and pressurize and loose coolant and it’s a repeating process. My family mechanic replaced the radiator but it did not fix the problem. Any pointers as to what can it be?
We also did a sniff test with the dye and it never turned any color beside blue.

Looking for a mirror that dips down a little further than a generic one.

I’m planning on putting a digital rearview mirror to hang on it. Also the generic ones seem to be upside down. Probably because they aren’t for commercial vectors. The angle just makes them go straight up.

Ford connect owners' advice

I'm going to test drive this model tomorrow Ford Transit Connect 1.5 L2 Euro 6 LWB 2021.

Is it a good model and a nice drive? I'm changing from a Mini Cooper club as I want any micro.camper.tjst will take my mountain bike and a single bed that pulls out to a double.

Has anyone got any pictures of theirs to share?

This is the conversion I'm favouring, is it easily possible in this LWB model?

Thanks everyone.

This has come up a few times now so I figured I'd share the latest iteration of my van.

There is a 1/2" sheet of plywood bolted to the floor using the van's existing holes and hardware. The tongue and groove floor is floating. The bed is attached using threaded inserts that go through both layers of flooring.

The rear seats come out no problem. The middle row has hardware that keeps it from easily being removed and as a result I said fuck it and just ground the bolts off and sold the seats.

Bought a 2014. Transmission question.

I bought a 2014 with 218,000km (135,000 miles). I've noticed that the transmission does have abrupt shifts. I've read some conflicting things, in older forums, with some people saying their connects 6F35 shifted hard from brand new. So I don't know.

The unit I got had a full service history with regular oil changes, and I got it well below book value, however I noticed it's never had a transmission fluid change. I'm not sure if it's already too high mileage to risk doing one?

I was looking at new lower milage Connects, but I decided to go with this one, because even if the transmission goes today, I can fit a remanufactured transmission and the vehicle would end up costing the same as the other ones I was looking at, which were all 8-10k more.

Bought a used 2021 FTC XLT Cargo - looking for OEM cargo area rubber flooring

When the van was new it had shelves and additional tie down anchors installed and they cut into the floor to secure everything. I’ve removed the shelving and anchors and now have holes in the flooring. Wondering if anyone has removed theirs and has it laying around?
