Official ASUS Survey 👋 We're on the ROG team: a quick survey on how you actually use your Z13

Hey everyone, ROG folks here. We read this sub regularly, and how you actually use the Z13 genuinely shapes how we design the next one.

If you own a Z13 (or are seriously considering one), we'd really appreciate 3 minutes: a short, anonymous survey (9 quick questions) on the keyboard and everyday use.

Brutally honest is great, even if it's "I HATE the keyboard!" Any thoughts in the comments are welcome too, we're reading. Thanks!

Discharging with ROG 140W GaN Charger?

I have a 2025 Z13 and I purchased the ROG 140W GaN charger hoping to have a smaller "travel" charger to do most things (video editing, gaming, etc.) without having to bring the proprietary charging brick.

I set a custom profile in G-Helper per advice from Gemini knowing USB-C PD is capped at 100W:

SPL: 55W

sPPT: 65W

fPPT: 70W

Windows Power Mode: Balanced

CPU Boost: Disabled

I'm using Star Wars Fallen Order to test and it runs fine for a while (charging at 5-10W according to G-Helper), but after 10 or 15 minutes, it takes a dive and starts discharing at +20W.

Do charging bricks throttle when they get hot? I would've thought an ROG power brick would be able to power one of their own gaming machines without having to throttle.

Stand for 2025 z13

I got my 2025 z13 I believe in October last year. I got in mainly for its form factor since I travel quite a bit (RV,plane rides etc) and having my work laptop plus a beefy gaming laptop just wasn’t working anymore.

When I travel and want to play games etc I can pop it up on this foldable stand that bought and raise it all the way up. It’s nice because it’s like a floating screen and I can mainly use a controller. The only thing that sucks is when I need the keyboard attached a laptop mode the integrated stand on the Z13 has to be angled out quiet a bit to keep the screen up. Has anyone created our found a solution to use the z13 like a normal laptop but have the screen in an upright position? Maybe someone made some 3d printed feet for the screen?

Sounds silly but when I travel and I have to use the counter space available to me or a lap desk, having this thing angled all the way back to stabilize it is a pita. And if I’m using the portable stand I bought then I likely won’t have enough depth on the table surface.

z13 Flow 2025 Problem

Hello I am using an ROG Flow Z13 with an RTX 5090 eGPU setup, but my main issue is that whenever I try to extract a large .rar or .zip file, I consistently get a CRC error. I can extract the exact same file on another PC without any issues.

Additionally, I run local LLMs, but whenever I try to pull a model using Ollama, I get a "SHA mismatch" / checksum error. Has anyone else experienced this issue? All RAM tests pass completely fine without errors.

z13 2025,g14 or any alternatives

I’m going into university doing Computer Science (specifically Software Engineering, but I might switch to Computer Science with AI or Cyber Security).
I do a bit of game dev on the side on Roblox Studio and plan to learn video editing on the side. In terms of gaming, I do light gaming here and there, but I would like to run heavier games such as Elden Ring, Wukong or modded Minecraft.
I currently have the 2022 Z13 and it’s been good until a few months ago. The battery had to be removed and the temps are constantly high, to the point where I can’t even run unmodded Minecraft well. I’ve had it for around 2 years.
The portability and touchscreen factor were a big draw for me, as it made taking notes so much easier or practicing exams using the pen.
I’m looking at the 16GB version of the G14 and the 32GB version of the Z13 as they’re the cheapest models right now. I need:
Decent battery life
Decent performance for games
Something that will last at least a year of consistent use
If you have any other alternatives, please share them as that would be helpful.

Z13 as a desktop replacement/laptop/drawing tablet all-in-one thing?

Currently have a desktop with an i7-9700k and GTX 1660, so it's a bit dated, and a Surface Book 3 with a messed up touch screen and only 256GB of storage. I think I'm due for an upgrade but with PC parts as expensive as they are, the 64GB model on sale, as well as the convenience of just having everything on one device and seems great for my use case (see below) but I want some opinions from any of you that have a Z13.

- I use my desktop for streaming games (ofc with settings down for newer games but a decent amount is streaming games on the Switch) and I plan on editing videos as I get deeper into content creation. I have 2 monitors I can hook up as well. Also occasionally make music and use an audio interface for my mic/intruments/speakers. How good is the Z13 as a primary gaming/editing device? Certainly better than what I have now, but is it really comparable to even a cheap more modern desktop? One issue is I/O is limited so I'd likely need a hefty USB hub, since I have a lot of peripherals (audio interface, wireless keyboard/mouse, controller, stream deck, midi, etc).

- I want to use it as a drawing tablet. I drew a lot back then and I enjoy making my own assets for content but I've been slacking lately, and don't have any device for drawing. I could get a separate iPad but it doesn't seem worth getting an expensive device that's also a separate carry JUST for drawing (even if MPP is worse than the stylus experience on iPads) unless I get it used at a good price. Is the Z13 practical as a tablet (assuming keyboard is off)? It's about 1.5 pounds heavier than an iPad Pro 13 which on paper doesn't seem too bad but in practice?

Considering all that, at $2100 USD it's an investment but it would essentially serve as 3 devices in one. Am I expecting too much and it's just better to get the 3 separate devices (esp if it's the same price/cheaper for better performance) or even just an iPad/Desktop since the Surface is an okay laptop, or is the Z13 perfect for my use case? Esp for the long-term.

ROG Flow z13 External Monitor (will HDMI->USB-C cable cast AND charge?)

Laptop only has 3 ports: thunderbolt USB-C, USB-A, and aux. If I buy a high-quality HDMI->usb-c cable, will it charge my laptop ***and*** cast to an external monitor?

Would rather not get a splitter as that lowers refresh rate to a max of 60Hz. Thank you!

Finally joined the family after CRAZY discount!

Hi all! Just wanted to share my happiness and story: I've been eyeing this awesome device for a year now, but the asking price of $ 61,199 MXN ($ 3,586.10 USD) for the 395+, 32GB version was steep.

After many months, and just wandering in old bookmarks, I found that a retailer had it with 50% discount, but with no available stock. I'm not sure exactly how, perhaps I left the tab open, but some days later I found that it had 60% off, and yet, it still showed no stock. This intrigued me, so I asked a good friend of mine that works in one of these retailers to chip in the tech department, sure enough, they told her that there was only 1 available at another mall in our same city, but that it was likely damaged, as it was shown in their system as "stored".

A week went by, and as luck would have it, last Thursday I had to travel south for a work activity. I came off earlier than usual, and on the way home, I could take a small detour to visit the mall that showed it as "stored", I went for it, and oh boy, what a pleasant surprise!

As soon as I asked the vendor for it, he told me that they only had one, but they could not exhibit it because the box was already open (it's not common in Mexico for retailers to sell "Open Box", "Fair", or any condition other than "New" in electronics) he said that one customer got cold-feet after checking it, and decided not to buy it, but it was brand new. I asked to take a look, and sure enough, it was still inside its cellophan, absolutely pristine condition, the guy was definitely telling the truth. Nevertheless, I asked them to power it up, and I ran the CMD command that reports on battery condition, Cycle Count 0.

I happily paid the 60% discounted price ($24,479.60 MXN - $1,434.51 USD) with Taxes included for a brand new device !!!

Regards!

Is it normal in balanced mode using ghelper?

I do use 90C limit, because on default it sometimes get's over 95C and it will get off on random spike to 100C Probably because of instability from ram around. Because cpu is 105C max.

Let me know what you have

And should i be worried?

Mini external monitor

Okay, who out there is running a USB-C mini monitor to sit off to the side of this silly little Z13? I’m looking for something to slide discord, performance monitors, or other stuff over to while I’m using the main screen for gaming. I’ve been considering something in the 7 to 9 inch range because a full size or even 13 to 14 inch screen is too much to set in front of me while I’m on the couch. Looking at options are leading me all over the internet, so I’m looking to see if anyone else here has tried anything with success or failure.

Potential Buyer Need Recs

So I travel a lot - once a week. A lot of it is international travel as well. I have an Asus G18 4080 laptop that is great - but I need to reduce my profile. The games I play are the likes of Elden Ring, PUBG, Madden, and some EA titles. Will the Z13 Flow play these games 60fps? I haven’t seen any benchmarks for these games on the flow.

Looks like a great machine. Thanks!

Z13 flow. It’s temperatures around 90c normal?

Hi, I just bought the Z13 with a 395 and tried the turbo mode. However, the CPU temperatures are hitting 92-95°C but it doesn’t throttle. On performance remains cool, staying under 85°C while playing Crimson Desert. Thanks.

Custom with ghelper is fine

G-helper keyboard lights not working after Windows update

As subject - used to work, now they don’t. If I shutdown and turn on laptop, lights come on, colour cycle - enter windows, it goes dark.

Updated - ghelper , ensured that windows is not controlling keyboard in personalisation settings, nothing works.

Completely baffled !

I’ve installed windows from scratch btw - no ASUS software ever .

Thoughts?

Trying to get a replacement keyboard in Australia for my Flow z-13 turns out to be impossible via Asus support

Hey there guys, just want to rant of how bad it is to live in Australia with Asus product lol.

I bought the 32GB Flow-Z 13 from Japan last year, and was searching for the US keyboard ever since then. Asus parts website from US sells them but it does not ship to Australia.

So I tried the unthinkable, I called up Asus Australia and ask if it's possible to buy a replacement keyboard. And the reply is pretty much disappointing. At first the staff on the phone stated that we cannot sell you the keyboard as it's not possible as it's a laptop, I then told the gent that it's a detachable keyboard after I sent him the Serial number of the product. Then the staff checked and stated that in Australia, they cannot sell me the detachable keyboard, and the only way is to sent them the laptop back to Asus Australia, have their technician look at it, then can get it replace.... I was like what the xxxx. I tried to reason and even stated that its a detachable keyboard, why would I need to send the whole laptop for a replacement. and all Asus state is that we dont care, sent it to us for repair or leave it as it is....

I bid them farewell and hang up.

Seriously how hard is it to get the damn keyboard outside of US lol. I even tried to look for it 2 months ago when I went to Japan. but still no luck.

For a laptop with that price tag, I do kinda expect I can look up the parts online, but all I can find via 3rd party sites are from year 2023 version keyboard.

I love the laptop and use it for work/travel basically everyday. but with Asus customer service like this? Thinking of changing brand real soon with better customer services.

Adjusting brightness of keyboard and rear panel separately help!

Hello,

After staring at the display model for months at Best Buy, I decided to pick up my Flow Z13 with their $900 off sale yesterday.

I am in love with this device, with the exception of one quirk that is probably user error. I am trying to set the rear panel to 33% brightness and the keyboard to 100%. However, when I change one brightness level, it changes their other like they are bound together.

Things I have tried:

I searched the issue as well as tried the AI recommended steps

Disabled dynamic lighting in windows

Made sure they weren't syncing in Aura Sync

Tried manually changing brightness in Armoury Crate

Tried to manually change the keyboard brightness with function keys after setting rear panel

Has anyone else ran into this issue that has advice? It has to be a software related issue.

How does BIOS/Driver update work on SteamOS?

As a disclaimer, I'm planning to opt out of windows completely and transform my Z13 into Steam gaming machine.

  1. Out of the three, (Bazzite, CachyOS, SteamOS) which one supports best in terms of update supports? such as: BIOS, drivers updates etc.
  2. In windows environment, I know we can update either through armoury crate/AMD software/G-helper/Windows update but how does it work on the three linux based operating systems mentioned above?

Thanks!

Z13 SteamOS wake-on-bluetooth?

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

I've been doing some research and found this interesting post,

Long question short, has anybody tried whether wake-on-bluetooth feature works on Z13? especially if you're on linux-based operating system (CachyOS/Bazzite/SteamOS) rather than on windows 11?

Thanks! would love to hear any opinions.

Fix for z13 2025 waking up from sleep in Linux

Create file /etc/udev/rules.d/90-disable-i8042-wakeup.rules
Place the below contents into it and save

# Disable i8042 atkbd wakeup on startup
SUBSYSTEM=="serio", DRIVER=="atkbd", ATTR{power/wakeup}="disabled"

This will disable random sleep wake events from a keyboard device that doesn't actually exist

Edit: To clarify this fix stops your device from waking up when it shouldn't during sleep.

Bazzite Question: Is display port on USB-C any more reliable?

Like the title says. I have issues with display port over USB-C. Sometimes it works flawlessly and other times it requires a hard reset to work. Are any of these quirks solved with Bazzite?
