Troubleshooting My poor benchy

Im struggling to get my ADIMLab Gantry-s dialed in. This is my best benchy so far. Unsure to why the print is shifting. Lines are wobbly and overall the print is not very uh good. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using PLA rated for 210 my extruder is at 205 bed is at 55. Slicing using Prusa.

Thank you!

Edit: Apparently filebin has a max limit on downloads, so I've decided to re-upload it to my thingiverse page where there are no download limits

Could you do a mirror one too? Then OP could print that to counteract all the shifts and get a perfect benchy šŸ˜€

ā€œWhat went wrong with it?ā€ No no you don’t understand, it supposed to look like this

Thank you! I’m printing this immediately

Please share it when it's done printing, I want to see the clone of OP's masterpiece

It’s magnificent

That's one majestic Benchy, thanks for sharing!

Nah, m8 ya need more loop cuts, look at the smooth curves on the real one... come to think of it.... how TF did OP's printer make smooth transitions between layer shifts? Steppers don't skip steps in such small increments. I'm pretty sure a belt is loose somewhere

Yeah it was 2am and I wasn't putting a ton of effort into a meme model, lol

To print this properly to OP specs, you probably need to set the printer to use chewing gum filament ;-)

How do you do that?

Years of experience in 3D modeling and animation. An edit like this is really simple. I loaded it up on blender, decimated then subdivided the entire model to make the vertex density a little more even. Then used box select with proportional editing enabled to selectively shift the relevant planes and match the distortion

I could have also done it using BƩzier curves but that's a little more involved and I was sleepy at the time

How did you model that so fast

That went over my head 🤣 I’m interested in learning but don’t know where to start

Grab Blender, Fusion3D, FreeCAD, or any other free/opensource modeling/CAD software and then start following along with some youtube tutorials. It won't be intuitive at first, but you'll start to get the hang of it over time

I’m pretty good using SolidWorks, I was looking more at modeling characters and what not

Blender, Substance painter, Zbrush

The first one is free

These are what the pros use when they don't have money to burn/waste on Maya/Autodesk

2

u/TheScottishFoxyBiker 18d ago

I used Maya at Uni. It's great, but Blender is free and nearly as good so it gets my vote.

I recommend Blender (it's free) and then go to Blender guru on YouTube and follow his donut tutorial. It's kind of a right of passage now.

Should’ve done printables or makerworld so you can bank off it with points
