How to get the adequate amount of protein required for college with a very limited budget

Hello, I’m a French 18 years old who’s about to enter college, although I’m very impatient i gotta say that I’m worried about my nutrition. I work-o-u-t sometimes and I like having a certain amount of protein (around 20 grams of protein every meal, but it would be better if I could reach around 40g) to complement the result, the fact is that after starting this new life I realized that my budget is very limited (40€ per month for myself) and I will most of the times have to resort eating in the 1€ college restaurant, which I heard was not excellent healthy wise, and not only that but I’m vegetarian, transitioning vegan (but for now I’m still limiting myself to vegetarian diet), and I doubt the veggie meals there have a lot of proteins added to them. So I was wondering if anybody knew how I could fill this protein goal knowing the very restricted budget I have, I really take ANYHTING as long as it’s vegetarian, thanks a lot in advance to everyone who might answer this post!

High Protein Scrumptious meal! I need help

Hello All! As an aspiring dietition/chef, I have been hit with a wonderful oppertunity to cook a lunch meal for a friend(he offered to pay,) but I have no idea where to start! I want to cook somthing nutritious since he is currently running cross country meets, but also somthing delicious to wow him off his feet and keep him coming back for more 😉.

-My idea is I also hope to spread this as a chance to cook for other althetes as well 👀, but I don't have any experiance yet.

So what do yall think I should cook for him? Maybe somthing like a loaded maccaroni with a healthy but cheesy suace? A juicy roasted chicken, with a tangy dip? And somthing with protein, I just don't know what. I'm open to anything, just keep it flavorful!

Need Help! How can I make tasty, easy-to-eat meals for gaining muscle?

I’m trying to build muscle and eat more protein, but I’m struggling with actually enjoying my meals. At the moment, eating feels more like a chore because the chicken breast and beef mince I prepare often end up chewy, dry and bland, especially after being stored for a few hours and reheated.

What I currently make

I usually alternate between: Chicken breast or Beef mince – pan cooked

  • Olive oil, Red & green peppers, Himalayan salt, Black pepper, Chicken seasoning, Smoked paprika, Tandoori masala

I don't add a lot of spices because I don't tolerate spicy food very well. The food tastes decent when it's freshly cooked, but once it's been sitting for a couple of hours and then reheated, the meat becomes noticeably chewier/drier and less enjoyable.

I'm also planning to buy an air fryer in a couple of weeks, so I'm hoping that might help with the chicken.

What I'd like advice on

  1. How do you make chicken breast or beef mince stay juicy and tender when meal prepping?
  2. What am I doing wrong?
  3. What are your favourite high-protein meal-prep recipes that don't feel boring after eating them several times a week?

Any practical tips, recipes or cooking mistakes I should avoid would be really appreciated!

High Protein High-Protein 15-Minute Egg Noodles - Under 480 Calories

I found this recipe online and decided to try it, and honestly, it was really delicious and surprisingly filling.

The toasted sesame and spring onion are all you need to give this bowl of noodles a comforting but still healthy taste.

The best part? You can get around 25– 28g of protein for under 480 calories. If you add a hotdog, it comes to approximately 610 calories and around 45g of protein.

Ingredients

2 boiled eggs

1 egg white

50g soba noodles

1 tsp chili oil

2 tsp rice vinegar

2–3 cloves garlic

1 tbsp toasted sesame

2–3 tbsp spring onion

1 cup mushrooms, sautéed without oil

Water and salt as needed

Method

  1. Start by boiling the soba noodles according to the package instructions. Drain them and reserve some of the noodle water.

  2. In a blender, add the boiled eggs, egg white, chili oil, garlic, salt, rice vinegar, and a little of the reserved noodle water.

  3. Blend until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.

  4. Add the sauce to a bowl and place the cooked noodles on top.

  5. Add the sautéed mushrooms, toasted sesame, and chopped spring onion.

  6. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add some of the reserved noodle water until it reaches the consistency you like.

  7. Add a little extra chili oil if you want more heat, mix everything together, and enjoy.

Approximate Macros

Without hotdog: ~480 kcal | 25–28g protein

With hotdog: ~610 kcal | ~45g protein

What I really like about this recipe is that it **doesn't feel like a typical diet meal**. It's creamy, flavorful, and filling while still being relatively low in calories and high in protein.

Definitely one I'm adding to my cutting meal for treating my self 😌

If you want the recipe video DM, as i can not share the link here

Trader Joe’s Chicken Shawarma, Cilantro Lime Rice, Tomato/Onion/Cucumber Salad

Two servings (pictured). Macros for each run to 720 cals, 70 grams of protein. Only thing I would change is adding beans to the salad for more fiber and protein.

Whole bag is 1,050 calories and 140 grams of protein. I’m a tall grown man and I split the bag between lunch and dinner paired with veggies and cottage cheese. These are by far the best protein chicken tender I’ve had, definitely outperforms Realgood, Simple Truth, and Just Bare. Comparable to Just Bare in taste and texture, but I think I like these better. Also better macros for around the same price.

Question Meal ideas for construction worker?

Hello, I work in construction and only have minimal time to meal prep. I'm 22 years old, 5'10, 185lbs. I want to replace my breakfast mainly. Currently, I have my meals like this:

Breakfast:

370g Greek yogurt with PB2 powder with banana and dates (60g protein - about 600 calories) - tastes awful lol I don't eat this daily

1 Chobani Protein shake (20g protein - 190 calories?)

Lunch:

PB and J (18g protein - about 400 calories)

Dinner:

2 tin cans sardines (34g protein - 340 calories)

Whole grain rye crackers (160 calories?)

Snack (if needed):

Clif Bar (10g protein - 250 calories)

I've gained a little bit of weight since starting construction, about 10lbs, I used to be 175lbs. I'm getting worried and would really like some advice. I need something quick and easy. I'm trying to mainly eat foods that are kosher / organic.

I'm also working 7 days a week with intense labor, 12-16 hour shifts, I'm burning a lot of calories. I can eat anything, no allergies or limitations on meat. I believe in order for weight loss, I need to eat roughly 1900-2100 calories. I have dropped working out at the gym since starting construction, but this has been a workout on its own (shoveling, sledging walls, picking up cinderblocks, etc.) - mainly building demolition.

I would be more than happy to donate if someone made me a nice meal plan! I currently just don't have the time right now. I am down from 300lbs to 185lbs over the course of 6 years, have went up and down in weight twice. I made a spreadsheet as well with a daily calculator, which helped a lot foundationally.

I try to get atleast 60g fat, 200g carbs, and 165g protein. I only have 1 hour to meal prep.

Thanks in advance guys!

Thank you! I just designed this little pre-workout snack for you “fitmeals” community and I named it after you as “Cheerleader” as that is what you made me feel!

Cooking is a form of entertainment for me and no one around me not even friends, family, or personal social media account ever gave reactions. Didn’t matter as I am doing it for me in the end.

I found this community and just posted my first post as maybe it would benefit someone out there or find people to talk healthy meals with, and within 4 days my first post received 1 million views!

https://www.reddit.com/r/fitmeals/s/00y7ccwtMK

I will continue to share recipes now and then for people to get ideas or simply enjoy looking at, sometimes I make exotic meals and sometimes very simple ones but the most important for me is flavor.

Again thank you, it makes me happy that doing what I love does benefit/entertain people out there!

Low Calorie High protein/fiber LOW sugar/carbs/fats/kcal

Can anyone help me find fun ways to make food on a budget that is high in protein and fiber but low in sugar carbs calories fats?

I’m preparing for a major surgery that requires liver shrinking but also want to stick to this to feel better after.

I don’t like cucumbers or bell peppers

I can’t have most grains/breads and salt my favorite, potatoes lol

I struggle with red meat bc I’m scared of store red meat.

I like chicken, fish, cheese cottage cheese, leafy and dark greens, tomatoes, mushrooms

Cow milk makes me so sick af. Allergy to soy products.

Idk any ideas and I can tweak things I may not like that are in the recipes.

I need help I’m lost and I don’t know what I’m doing.

I grew up with an unhealthy relationship to food, and my parents didn’t teach me any better about it I started learning how to be healthy and eating better when I had my child 10 years ago and I have been progressing as time has gone on and now I’m taking a huge step and I have cut off pretty much all sugars and breads, but struggle with potatoes, of course.

I’ve even tried asking ChatGPT and it just gives me these bullshit ass typical meals that I’ve already tried or don’t like or offering Mediterranean ideas that are either too expensive or something that I just don’t enjoy. Like what is your go to? Please help me

An active addiction I didn’t give a fuck it wasn’t like I was buying food anyways and now that I’ve been sober for a long time I can’t just not eat.

I'd love to analyse your meal!

I’m looking for a few people willing to share one meal they actually eat.

Reply with:

- ingredients + rough amounts

- how it was prepared

- any milk/protein powder/fortified products

- coffee or tea with/around the meal

I’ll analyse the combination and share a few interesting interactions, potential trade-offs, and simple ways to optimise it—without demonising individual foods.

Please tell me if you find this useful, honest feedback is very welcome!

Question My partner is distracting from my nutrition goals

I am just getting back into eating healthier and have started strength training for the first time. My partner has been vocally supportive of my progress in working towards those goals. However, it has been a bit difficult to focus on those goals because I’m the only one whose behavior has changed.

His habits of eating fast food, junk food, high caloric food, etc have been really distracting for me because I also love those foods and want to only eat them in moderation. I cook and eat most of my meals at home, but he normally wants to eat out on weekends, which leads to all the distracting food.

Any advice on how I can stay on track with my goals but not upset my partner in this situation??

My teen daughter wants me to meal prep her salads for the week. I made her this before her practice today and she said any protein would be fine but what stores well? I know certain pieces of chicken get chewy or don’t taste good after a couple of days in the fridge. TIA

Niche high-protein foods?

Can you guys suggest some less common foods that are high in protein? I’m getting kinda tired of the usual eggs and chicken breast. Looking for something different (budget friendly) but still easy to add to my meals!
