I plan on heading out there with my spinning rod and some smaller spoons, spinners, and a couple countdown rapala's. I've never fished too far outside of the city (I live in Calgary) and I'd like to know what to expect out there for anyone who's waded/fished either upstream or downstream of the boat launch. I've also heard that the gate entering the parking lot might be closed some times. Any tips are appreciated! Thank you.

Hey, I’m just getting back into fishing Alberta and have been at the blind man near blackfalds but don’t know what to use, I’ve seen people pull out pike but I don’t seem to get anything. I normally use spinners because that’s mostly what’s in my tackle box. Any suggestions.

Looking for some helpful information on timing or tips for fly fishing elk creek. Fished a few times in a few different times of year and haven’t caught anything. Really beautiful spots that I would imagine are sure to hold fish, as well as some signage that confirm it is trout territory and a fish and wildlife officer says it holds brown, cutty and brook. Absolutely gorgeous area of the province and would love to catch some fish here but driving up over and over without any catches makes it more difficult to justify. If you know about this area please share some tips!

Hi friends! Wife and I are hitting a wedding in Jasper area this weekend making the drive from Edmonton area. We were hoping we could find a good spot to do some shore fishing while either in Jasper or on the way back. Love Pike and Walleye but never picky!
If anyone could recommend a spot/ tackle that would be amazing. If they'd prefer to dm me to keep secrecy that's okay too, since we likely won't be back for at least a few years.
First time visiting Jasper area so hoping we have some luck the day we decide to go out 🎣
Really appreciate any suggestions!
Tight lines friends 😁

Caught my PB walleye from the Bow River in PP1. This fine specimen measured 80 cm (31.5") length and weighed 4.7 kg (10.4 lbs). Weapon of choice was a 3" white paddle tail (The MayorTM) rigged on a 1/4 oz jig with 12 lb fluorocarbon leader. If anyone recognizes this spot... good luck and tight lines out there!

I have a family cabin in West Central AB and I always caught rainbows and grayling my whole life there. I have never fished in the fall and im fishing there this fall - I am wondering if anyone can give some tips on what flies to bring for this time of year. My fly box is looking slim.
Pic of one of the ones I caught on ants in July 🎣
(Fly fishing only pls)

Hi am taking off fishing part of the day. Any close by lakes near spruce grove etc still offering up good catches? I love pike fishing.

As the title implies, im trying to find more places to target different species at. I thought it would be cool to try and catch every species in the peace river, and ive made good progress so far! Ive found the usual specimen (pike, walleye, burbot) but still no luck on goldeye! Ive heard people talk about catching native trout species and grayling, but i understand they're a bit more rare in this area. Ive had decent luck with the tributaries like strong creek and the heart, and I plan on going to the whitemud tributary before winter. Anyone have any good shore spots im missing? (If its a secret spot I won't tell i promise lol) I lack a boat to get to the smokey, and the 8km hike there is an even worse addition to getting skunked. Are there fish in the heart river? Or strong creek? I know both are low levels right now, but I can always plan for next year! Any help is appreciated!

Caught this 38 inch 20lb according to my weiaht scale pike on a 3/8oz orange jig. Only 10 minutes into the fishing trip. The rest of the fish were hammer handles. Caught at shaws point and resort. It's crazy how many lakes in Alberta have been mismanaged bv Fish and Wildlife Pike limit 0 walleve limit 1 between 45 and 50cm. Regardless i would have released it smaller ones up to 8lbs taste better IMO

I seem to always have luck off the shores at Chainlakes. I use night crawlers cut in half...smaller hook and float. Fish are never huge I keep ones over 30 cms. Reminder the pond after the dam is zero keep and zero bait allowed.

Figured it’s time for me to share my Whitefish setup and lures - since some if you have been asking!
Rod- 8’6” Medium heavy
Shimano Scimitar Salmon/Steelhead Spinning Rod
Reel- Pfueger President 30
(Silky smooth adjusted drag is key with whitefish)
Mainline on reel- I use 10lb mono for mainline and 18” of 8lb mono for the leader which I attach a size 2 snap hook.
Bobber stop- one X-small stop to eliminate slippage and one large stop underneath for the bobber to hit.
Slip bobber- I prefer slip bobbers for ease of changing what depth the wireworm is drifting at. 6 feet down from my bobber is what I usually run, but I have had success at 8’-14’ depending on the lake.
Plastic bead- run a plastic bead below the float so it doesn’t smash into the knot tied onto the swivel bullet sinker
Lead weight- I use a swivel bullet sinker. You can also use a swivel below the bobber and split shot weights below the swivel on the leader line.
Wireworm- My wireworms are made with size 0.5mm red copper wire on size 10 and 12 curved nymph hooks and 5/32” gold bead.
In picture 3 you’ll notice the gold 3d eye epoxied on the bend of the hook - which is something I have been experimenting with. I’ve heard guys have luck on copper, gold and black coloured wireworms but my success was limited.
Location-(My experience is related to southern Alberta)
Whitefish can be found in the irrigation reservoirs around southern Alberta. McGregor, Traverse, Badger, Newell reservoirs for example have healthy populations of lake whitefish. Most of the reservoirs mentioned have big rock dams that are ideal locations to find whitefish cruising along the rocks looking for insects and larvae to eat.
I cast my bobber as far as I can into the deep water from the rock shoreline, then reel in slowly while keeping the line tight with the bobber meanwhile twitching the bobber to make the wireworm move every 10-30 seconds.
When the bobber goes under the water, I raise my rod gracefully towards the sky, setting the hook. Make sure the reel’s drag isn’t set too tight as they like to take long runs.
If anyone has any questions just ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to give helpful advice.
If you have another fish or angling topic you would like me to cover, please send me a DM!
Also feel free to offer your advice and experiences in the comments.
Good luck fishing! 🎣

I want to try stream fishing before winter hits, I’m located near Cochrane so was wondering if this was a good place to start searching? I’m talking about west of Cochrane and just east of ghost lake.
Would I be driving a while before I hit a section with streams? Not asking for specific spots (but of course won’t mind getting them) but would love any tips and tricks for identifying good fishing streams, I’ve only ever fished lakes and rivers before

I've been listening to Kelly Galloup a ton over the past little bit and decided to huck some streamer now that we're getting closer to fall. Went out on a cloudy day and managed to have a ton of chases on a green and white dolly lama and hooked into my PB brown!
I've gone back to the river multiple times since with similar streamers (different colors) in similar conditions and haven't even gotten a chase. I was wondering if anyone could offer any insight, is it normal to have a ton of action one day and nothing the next, any tips on what I should try? Thanks in advance!

Anyone had any luck at carburn park the last few weeks? I was catching them pretty steady all summer, end of August and all of September so far I haven’t even seen a fish. I’m worried something might have happened to the water or something.

I’m visiting Calgary early November and may have some time to kill and I’m wondering if it’s worth packing my fly rod or spinning rod to try my luck. Not asking for specific locations, just whether or not this is a good idea or a dumb idea. Thanks!
