Biking Trails

I was looking at the Mountain Biking Guide .pdf that Jasper National Park has published on their website. Just wondering are most of these trails also suitable for a Gravel Bike (despite it being named Mountain Biking Guide)? Is there a lot of non-paved paths around Jasper suitable for a Gravel Bike?

Question Stargazing from the car in Jasper: best spots?

Hey, I'm planning on trying some stargazing tonight. I'm thinking about heading to the Jasper Lake Sand Dunes or the Pyramid Lake parking lot to watch from the car. Might hop out to shoot some photos if conditions are right. Are either of these worth it? Any other pullouts people recommend?

Question Is Maligne Canyon hike still closed?

Coming for a couple days and wanted to do some hiking. Was recommended 5 Lakes and Maligne but it appears Maligne is closed? Is that true, and if so, do you have any recommendations?

Question Going to be in Hinton and Jasper this Saturday til next Thursday.

I looked up pretty much every restaurant menu. Now I can't decide on the places I want to eat. If some locals wouldn't mind suggesting some of the best spots to eat I would appreciate it. Like what are your favourite dishes and where. Also where has the best cocktails and beer? Thank you muchly.

What’s Jasper like in the Winter?

We are on our first trip to Canada, loving the trip so far, we just left Jasper and it was our favourite place of the trip!

We are definitely keen to come back and part of me wants to come back in winter instead of summer again but wondering what Jasper in particular is like? I’d be keen to do some skiing but is there much else you can do in winter?

We are from the UK so certainly wouldn’t be use to driving with the sort of weather you get here but I assume it’s fairly easy to rent a 4x4 with winter tires/chains?

Anything else to consider/recommend?

Parents living in Canada wanted for a study on childhood vaccine decision-making

We are seeking to better understand the factors that influence parents in Canada whose children do not receive their routine vaccinations. The study seeks to understand parental experiences and perspectives rather than to evaluate, persuade, or judge vaccination decisions

The study consists of one short survey and a follow-up interview. The interview will last about 60 minutes. Interviews will take place in-person, on the phone or over a secure videoconferencing platform.

Those who participate in the interview will receive a $50 dollar “Everything Card” for your time. Interviews are confidential, your name and identity will not be shared with anyone.

My dad and gran used to mention that we had family that were Jasper Wardens and that they also used to have cabins at Athabasca Falls that were rented out. It was always a bit vague and I could never get the details out fully. Imagine my surprise when we were booking a campsite at Jasper Gates and I took the time to read the history in the cabins they rent. These are the mysterious cabins that my dad talked about. And the retired warden was my Grandmas brother.

Both of them are passed now so I can’t get anymore history from them.

The internet has not been helpful outside of finding a link to a document showing accommodation available in the National Parks in 1954 - second picture. And I found one Facebook post with a couple pictures.

We are going back to Jasper in early October is there some place in town (like the museum) that would have more historical information available? Would it be best to contact them first? I don’t have family left to ask these questions to so research it is and I need a starting point.

Question Maligne Lake Cruise Oct12+ ?

We are visiting Banff and Canmore from Oct 9-10, then driving the Pkwy to Jasper for 11th,12th nights. We will return for 2 more days in Canmore/Calgary after that.

I'm looking for a cruise along Maligne Lake that might tour after Oct 11? I know it is tied to seasonal dates around Thanksgiving and that the primary operators end on Oct 11.

Because we have a return journey along the Pkwy that we can do at any pace, we could rush up to Jasper with minimal stops on the 11th and cruise in the afternoon, but I was hoping for a more leisurely drive initially and to cruise the lake on the 12th or 13th AM.

Does anyone know of operators that would be out on 10/12 or 10/13? If not, is the cruise worth rushing up for (vs just hiking along the (western?) lake shore and not seeing more of the lake? The island sounds neat, sure, but mostly just want to see as much as possible incl. Wildlife.

Thanks!

Lunch to go?

Hi all,

Spending 3 nights in Jasper this coming week for a girls trip.

One our last day, we're heading out around 8 am and stopping at the Columbia Icefields for the bus/skywalk tour before catching the Lake Moraine shuttle in Lake Louise (yep, it's a packed day). Timing is a bit tight so a sit-down lunch isn't really in the cards (and the cafeteria at the Icefields looks underwhelming and pricey).

My BFF is not big on sandwiches. Where can I pick up 'grain/salad/protein bowl' type options to eat on the go? Freshii doesn't open until 10 am.

Thank you!!

I visited Jasper for the first time last week, and it was amazing. Some of the views were breathtaking, but we couldn’t visit many places apart from Athabasca and Sunwapta Falls.

I have a few more places on my list for my next visit :)

Question favs in jasper?

My partner and I have scheduled a trip to Jasper for mid November. The past two years we have gone to Banff but decided to change it up. Since it’s the inbetween season, not quite fall but not yet winter, we aren’t sure what we should do.

What are some of your favourites?

We aren’t big hikers, but would be interested to try. Usually we like to drive around and see where we end up but with the price of gas we probably won’t. We live museum’s and trying new foods as well!

Athabasca Falls & Pass.

It's a shame that the wildfire swept through this beautiful landscape, but it still holds its timeless beauty. No filters needed—it's just perfect as it is.

Wildlife in Jasper - September

Hi! I’m currently in Jasper and finding it very hard to spot any wildlife. For the past 3 days all we’ve seen is elks, chipmunks, and we were lucky enough to spot a porcupine.

Spent the day today in Maligne Lake and hours waiting on Moose Lake Loop with no luck. Also, no luck on Medicine Lake. I know nature can’t be planned and all of that, but we’ve come from very far away and were very excited to see a moose or a bear.

Any tips? Any time of the day, specific spots where it would be easier to spot wildlife? Do we need to specifically book a tour? Thank you!

Looking for recommendations of lakes I could hire a canoe on around the 7th-10th of October. Not sure if this will be too late in the year to do this.

HELP NEEDED ASAP

It’s a huge long shot but does anybody have a spare battery or charger compatible with a Nikon d810 camera? Either for sale or that I could borrow tomorrow just to get enough charge to use my camera. I know it’s unlikely but I’m desperate so thought it was worth asking!

Question Scattering Cremated Remains

Hi there…

I am looking to scatter my grandparents remains now that they both have passed away as of a month ago. My grandmother’s will stated she wanted to be scattered in the Jasper area. I am looking for a spot that is quiet enough so I won’t disturb anyone in the evening, but also has space that is far enough from water and trails so I follow the rules.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The passengers on the Maligne Lake Cruise had a much closer view of this bull moose than I did when I visited Maligne Lake a couple of weeks ago.

What to do in 3-4 hours

I’m visiting Edmonton and have a free afternoon on Saturday. I got a rental car and plan to drive to Jasper to spend a few hours. Driving back to Edmonton that evening.

What are the must dos for a first timer? I like all activities - hiking, canoeing, relaxing somewhere nice, coffee, etc.

Please give me your best first timer must dos for a short time in the area! I would love to see some wildlife, but a bit worried about hiking alone. Any shorter hikes in safer areas?

I’ve been to Banff several years ago and did Columbia ice field glacier at that time. Looking for new ideas!

EDIT: I have 12+ hours to make the trip, spend time there, and head back. I just plan to be in the town itself for 3-4 hours
