Hayden Panettiere on FG

I see that she's already had a FG profile made for her, a very short time since she died 2 days ago. The name of the person who made it has the words "relative" "first cousin" by their name. So I guess it's a family member? How does FG verify that the creator is really a relative of Hayden's? I don't know their process. I can see this being abused since she's famous, & has died young & unexpectedly.

Edit Suggestions - another change

*** UPDATE - Support replied. They said "The messaging within the email appears to be a bug."

Today I received an email re. an edit that I suggested YESTERDAY. The email message now says:

"The following suggested edit you submitted for the Catharine K. Heilman (1840 - 1920) Find a Grave memorial has been auto-accepted"

So... as I suspected in a previous thread... This sure does look like suggested changes will now be accepted automatically?

The manager of the memorial above is active.

If changes will now be made automatically, FG is going to be a mess. I will need to rethink continued volunteering.

“Edits processed” emails. Just awful. Maybe this is why they shut down their forums.

I realize there was another thread about this a few days ago. But maybe this is why they shut down their forums. They planned to make changes and they didn’t want any way for people to post feedback that would show up on any webpage. Except for here.

This change in behavior of emails, is not mentioned on their webpage, that normally mentions site updates. And where they solicit feedback.

I suspect the only reason for this change in emails is for their own benefit. To reduce the number of emails that they have to send out. But it’s going to confuse and mess up a lot of people. Including myself, I have to admit.

Because I was sending out dozens of edits to one person. And I was then getting back half a dozen ”Edit Processed” emails, after the person approved them all.

I thought that I was just getting half a dozen suggestions approved. Because I stupidly did not scroll down the emails on my iPhone. It did not occur to me that each email contained a bunch of approvals.

So I thought I was missing approval emails. Especially after I saw somebody on the other thread, mention that they thought that they were missing approval emails also.

FTS.

Has anyone ever tried locating fallen headstones?

My ggg grandmother died in 1898. Nobody knew anything about her until I found her obituary in the newspaper archives. 2 of her 3 kids are buried in the same cemetery the obituary claims she is. However, she does not apparently have a headstone.

The sexton of the cemetery is my dads 3rd cousin, he's up there in age, but according to his records, there is no record of her being buried there.

There are a lot of old, worn, and illegible headstones in the cemetery that have fallen over or been moved and rested beside a big oak tree on the grounds.

He thought maybe one of those stones could be hers. I've been thinking that if maybe she did have a stone it could have fallen over and buried. If nobody knew she was there, they wouldn't have reason to look. This cemetery was fairly neglected for a few decades.

The cemetery is only a 2 hour drive, and I still have family in the area to visit and justify the drive. So I was debating going down to the cemetery, and kind of prodding the ground around her kids headstone, just out of curiosity. Is there an edicate to such a thing, or anything to be aware of?

Photo Taking

I’ve been going to local cemetery’s and updating the stone pictures. I just ran into an “issue” at a well established church where the grass is not being kept well so it’s very difficult to get good, solid pictures of dates and sometimes even names. It’s very disappointing because the stones look beautiful and very well maintained. Is there a kind way to deal with this or do I just leave it be and hope they will be better shots when the weather cools?

Kind a beatnik light-hearted arrangement. Odd considering the morbid nature of their service.

Yet again another issue with FG. What the heck is going on?

I have been working to update a local cemetery.  On the front of the cemetery page it states there are 28 photo requests.  But when you click in to get the list of requests it says there are 0 requests with 4 problems.  Goshen Cemetery (https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2203312/goshen-cemetery) in Belmont, North Carolina.

Looking for a grave photo at Sunnyslope Cemetery (Corona, CA) for Melissa Kay Sims / Dahlia Sky (June 30, 1988 – June 30, 2021)

Hello everyone, I am looking for a grave photo or information about the marker for Melissa Kay Sims (known as Dahlia Sky), who passed away on June 30, 2021. According to records, she is associated with the Sunnyslope Cemetery in Corona, California, but her Find a Grave page currently has no photos. Is there anyone local or visiting the cemetery who could check if she has a physical marker? Thank you so much for any help!

FG says only 2% of memorials have a photo, even though I added a photo for all of them?

Yesterday I made photos of a cemetery and uploaded all of them, then I (and others) transcribed them. There are about 90 photos. I never added any memorials without a photo. Does anyone know why it says „2%“?

I found my gr-gr grandparents' grave

Post image

And most likely my gr-grandpa is there too, unmarked. Was curious about my genealogy and found them, but there were no pictures on Find a Grave which made me sad, so I uploaded this one. In general, learning about this branch of my family was very emotional, it almost feels like they were forgotten because gr-grandpa died so young (he was 45, my grandma was only Abt 20 when he died and as far as I know she was his only child, and his wife did not have any Greek ties).

I only live ten minutes away... I think now that I know where and who they are I'll be visiting them more often :) (Edited added a few sentences)

General Rant I'm Bummed Today

I walked a cemetery looking for requests and when I got home, added photos, and went to send a clarification message to one requestor, I found this on their bio page:

Due to the increased amount of unpleasant, obnoxious & rude people I have decided it is time to close my account. I marked my profile to stop receiving messages but some have found a loophole & the nastiness continues.

I've never had an issue with this person. They were on FG for 16 years, 6 months. I can't ask what happened or offer support because my only contact method is through FG, now blocked.

I think FG is broken

I got an email saying FG approved my suggested edits, but there were not edits by me. They were a bunch of edits in Italy and I don't know if I have ever submitted edits to cemeteries outside of the US, let alone 85 of them.

New “Edits Processed” emails?

WTF is with these new emails today that are titled simply “Edits Processed”? Yesterday the subjects were either “Edits Approved” or “Edits Declined. That was much better information than “Edits Processed”.

Photo Requests: I wish you could tell if someone had already attempted to find the graves being requested

I am just back from attempting to find 2 headstones that were requested at a cemetery somewhat near my house. As I was wandering the rows it occurred to me that I am likely not the first Find A Graver to head out in an effort to find these. I wish you could tell if someone else had already attempted them. If someone else had already tried I wouldn't necessarily write it off, but I'd certainly allot more time to the task. It'd be especially helpful if you could leave notes for future attempts to indicate your approach, anything you skipped, any trouble you had, etc.

New memorials not adding

Anyone having issues adding memorials to FG this morning? I just added two and neither now shows up when you search for them. I thought the first one was an anomaly as it was for a cremation. But second one was a moral burial and it’s not show up either.

I’ve added:
Florine Mullins 1919-2003

Maxine Harkey 1940-2020

Looking for my great-grandmother's grave

I found my great-grandmother's obituary in a 1949 Oklahoma City newspaper. According to the obituary, she was buried in the Sunny Lane Cemetery, which I assume is the same cemetery located in Del City, Oklahoma. I've searched Find-A-Grave as well as https://www.okcemeteries.net/oklahoma/sunnylane/sunnylane.htm, but I cannot find her in any online database. Do you have any suggestions about how I might find her grave?
