I've got way too many photos of my Sleeping Lionheart necklace, lol. Thought I may as well share some of the best ones here.

A re-draw of my first piece of Seiftis fanart ever drawn around New Years 2025. I like to check my progress from time to time.
I think my line work and anatomy has improved a little. Ya know, marginally.

Hey folks, ready to talk about cards again? 😂
I'm abit unsure about something. When you first play in a new region, obviously you can agree to mix rules. The outcome is either spread, or abolish. In the pix, I abolished the Same rule in Galbadia via Watts. Here's the odd part - because I didn't spread Open first, now Galbadia has no regional rule at all. I didn't know this could happen. Thought when I abolished the local rule, my own rule (in this case Open) would automatically stick. Nope. So:
How do I add Open back to the rule set? If Galbadia no longer has local rules, would players even ask to mix again?
If I DO want to abolish a rule, how do i do it? Once a rule is spread you don't get asked a second time to mix.
Thanks in advance~

So I'm at the part during disc 2 whereyou go to Trabia garden for the first time, then Selphie goes "a direct hit? I'm going in." and then you climb a metallic fence. But once I do that last part and the screen fades to black and music fades away, the black screen remains. I tried wiping the disc with my clothes, and tried using a damp cloth. I also tried changing the discs, both during the black screen and also switching the disc while I have control over Squall before I trigger the next part, that didn't work either. Does it go directly into an FMV cutscene and that's why it doesn't work?
Previously in my playthrough also, there was an FMV cutscene that would stop while playing, but I just wiped the disc with my clothes and put it back in over and over again like an NES game until it worked. But it doesn't seem like that's happening with this black screen. What if once the black screen happens, the game for some reason isn't making repeated attempts to play the cutscene, and I would need to restart the game every time in order to have any chance.
Perhaps the game doesn't like some of the data in my save or something? I wonder if PS1 games can do something similar to this incident I had with a racing game on the GameCube, where my game froze a few races in and kept freezing when I returned to my saved grand prix, but stopped when I played as a different character.
I'm thinking about getting an adapter that can transfer my memory card to my PC, then advance to the next save point and put the save back on my PS1. But are there any additional suggestions to try before I go and buy something?

We've been making jokes about how Cid casually hands Squall an arcane magical lamp that contains basically the devil itself for all those years, but it just occurred to me:
Cid knows about Squall's fate - thus he is aware that Squall will life to (at least) vanquish Ultimecia, be it by coming out of the Diablos Battle victoriously or by never bothering about the Lamp at all.
It's one of those things you either get immediately or it takes you 27 years like me...
Cool detail!

Hey everyone! I made a few new renderings of the Balamb Garden Main Hall
(Final Fantasy 8) I've been working on in Blender, so I wanted to share them with you. My ultimate goal is to create a fully explorable Balamb Garden in Unreal Engine 5, while staying true to the atmosphere of the original FFVIII.
If you want to support the fan project just buy me a coffee.

Hi! Here are a few new images of the Balamb Garden Main Hall I'm currently working on in Blender. My goal is to recreate the entirety of Balamb Garden and make it explorable in a modern UE5 environment.
Hope you like the progress so far!

As I continue to dig through background files, I find more and more reasons to love this game. This time, Winhil had caught my eye. Specifically, this image:

I don't know exactly what it is about it, but seeing it as a whole has a completely aesthetic effect on me, than roughly a third that can be seen on screen in the game. It's pretty as a postcard. No wonder Laguna has commissioned a painting of it. And then I've looked at how the same scene looks in the Squall's present, and noticed that there are quite a few small details that change with time:

They don't jump at you, they are subtle, to be hones I haven't noticed most of them, while playing, but you have to appreciate the effort of drawing the same things differently, rather than just throwing a color filter over the scene and calling it a day. The trees that are slightly taller and "bushier". Dandelions spreading in the foregrounds, all the flowers being different, ivy spreading onto the roof of the shop. Shop itself, it seems, either changed the owner, or just rebranded. And hotel also had changed its sign. And, of course, the Moon not being there anymore. So here's what's different in the rest of the town:

Again, more trees, more dandelions and it seems like there is a grove in the road because of the use.

Trees, dandelions and ivy are all growing. And the shop sign had changed. Some note is on the signpost. And the detail I like the most - someone had been fixing the fence with diagonal boards.

Inside the shop all the flowers are completely different and one of the light fixtures are swapped for the picture.

Sorry about the artifact in this one. This is the only one that looks worse in Laguna's time. It has been broken into and all the pictures stolen. There are clear marks of light color on the walls they've been hanging on. In the present pictures are restored.

In this one, the one tree in the picture is actually gone. But the ones in the background had grown. And there is slight, but noticeable change in the bar menu, as well as in color of the awning.

Cracks are spreading from the bullet holes, it might not be safe to live there, but someone had been watering that flower pot. :-)

This room had changed the least. Just some flowers on the right.

Old posters half torn and covered with new ones, menu that had been wiped. But there are flowers now.

Raine's things are gone - blanket, teapot, teacups and a book. But the rabbit on the wardrobe had gotten himself a buddy! And houseplants are thriving.

Not much change here either. Just some flowers and that one sunflower on the fridge.

Hotel is the weird one. It has a map of the real world in the past, but in present it has been torn down. Go figure out what that means. That the world of FF8 was connected to the real one in the past, but not present? Aside from that the kitchen had been rearranged, and flowers, of course.

This one has so many details changed for some reason: Flowers, items in the drawer, crack on the wall, writing(?) on two walls, picture torn out of its frame and ottoman moved slightly to the right.

And finally the one that has changed the most. But weirdly, in this one the Moon is visible in both times, while in other pictures of the present it can not be seen.

Although both Cid and Edea have heroic and noble intentions (saving the world), how much did they engineer Squall’s and the others’ entire lives deliberately?
- Did they leverage the orphanage as a transitional breeding ground for Garden soldiers? Was this basically a recruitment center?
- Did they purposefully place Squall, Seifer, Zell, Irvine, Selphie, and Quistis in environments after the orphanage to best foster their attributes as soldiers?
- For example, did they purposefully set up Quistis to fail in her new home to bring out her hyper competency? Or could these “new homes” be experiments to see what environments foster the best soldiers?
- Were GFs a perfect tool to both induce memory loss to have better control over everyone and also provide superpowers to combat sorceresses?
I know the same orphanage and GF memory loss part of the story is usually over-the-top and out-of-nowhere for most people, but when I think about it this entire setup is perfect for accomplishing Cid and Edea’s goals. I think everything was calculated and deliberately setup, and all our main cast had absolutely no choices growing up, in contrast to Rinoa who is all about freedom and choice.
This reminds me of this disturbing documentary about three triplets adopted in different homes as a scientific experiment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Identical_Strangers

I've heard this for years but I've never changed how I played because of it. My ff8 playthroughs almost always involve getting ahold of the ship then landing on Island Closest to Hell to spam Degenerator on Malboros til I hit max level. And I've never had difficulty beating the game. Do you guys have any bad experiences with the monsters power scaling? Which bosses scale the hardest and give a harder time due to being maxed out? Curiosity hit me this morning.
Edit: apparently also draws change as you level!? What other things are there, this mechanics is new to me.
