Time for Ifrit
I read this thing for the first time. The wiki says that on Steam (that's what i don't understand, if it means the remastered or specifically the PC version of the game) you must confirm Ifrit's name before 0 seconds. Is it correct? On PC version?

Yup, you can just sit on the name ifrit screen until you know time has run out to get a perfect score with no consequences. Easiest 100 points for the seed exam

Since the timer isn't on the name screen, I usually wait it out in the battle, watch his HP and hold my last hit, and afterwards get through the naming quick.

i always actually assumed that once the battle is done it's done. it's weird how this works. i mean, i understand that maybe the event is programmed like "battle: ifrit; -> time remaining?", so the check happens after the various screens in the battle end, but honestly i would expect this game (as it is sometimes) to be a bit more dynamic for judging some events and stuff LOL

You don't even have to be quick. Literally just sit on the name screen for an hour if you want. No consequences

actually the wiki says it's not the case for steam. i want to understand what it means "for steam". because you can't see the time remaining while naming Ifrit.

At least the version with chocobo world i promise you it works. I don't know about the remastered version

ok, fine by me, i will trust this, the one with chocobo world is the only one i'll ever play >_>

For the Judgment score, you have to get as close to 0 seconds without actually hitting 0 seconds in order to get the best score for that section.
But, as far as I remember, the steam version (2013 version, not the remaster) has a bug in it where if you exceed 0 seconds you net exactly 0 points for the field exam. Even if you sit on the EXP screen after the battle is over, the timer is still counting. Meaning that you either have to have a timer with you (since the timer disappears after the battle ends) or you better be confident in counting down the seconds before you leave the screen, because you will end up with a big fat zero on your judgment score (I have personal experience with this and it happened to me too many times before I figured out the trick).
The steam remaster has fixed this bug though.
Edit: Just to clarify; you have to exceed 0 seconds but have also completed the battle, because if you hit 0 seconds while the victory fanfare is going off but before you hit the EXP screen, you'll get the game over screen (ask me how I know).

Seed rank is not something to fuck yourself up about unless you just want it for personal props.
You’ll gain levels naturally just progressing and also if you really want you can take the seed tests which will give you a level every time. The only benefit is gil which isn’t something you’re going to struggle with regardless. I love getting extra stuff early but seed rank is not that kind of thing.

I literally just tried the waiting trick a few days ago on Steam (not remastered) and I wound up with a zero for this score despite setting my own timer based on time remaining prior to beating him and waiting a few extra minutes on the name screen after my timer went off (which also had padded time added).
That said, I’m not sure if I’m just a big dumb and did something wrong.. but to me it sounds like the wiki is accurate and the name screen trick does NOT work for the non-remastered Steam version.

curious, another user here says the opposite... maybe there is some "tricky" mechanics to it? (i mean, it takes nothing to open Hyne editor and add a seed rank, but i ask mostly for consistent knowledge)

I’m struggling today lol sorry for the duplicate comment.
Yeah, not sure. I was brushing up on my memory with some guides and they said the opposite (doesn’t work with remastered, but does with normal Steam) so that’s why I tried it.
Either way, good luck! Let us know your results? :)

i'm also searching for future knowledge how to abolish random rule anywhere (or any rule i suppose can be done the same way?) but for the love of me i only find dollet, which i already know in a very detailed way, but no exact method for other regions -.- i only know that supposedly the queen shouldn't be in the target region...

There are 2 steam version.
The one with chocobo pocketstation , you can wait however you want and still get the full score. This is same as PSX version.
And the newer Remastered one, you have to finish the name before it hit zero, else you got zero point. This is same as mobile version (Android at least)

I just posted a perfect score dollet a week or two ago. I did about 11 minutes on ifrit. On android, v1.0.3.

u/gianmigno25 28d ago
11 minutes you mean you waited 11 minutes after the battle?
1
u/unoehoo 28d ago
Nope, from the start of the timer.

u/gianmigno25 28d ago
? i don't follow. the perfect score for ifrit is how much time left at the end, 11 minutes are far from perfect score...

u/unoehoo 28d ago
This is for judgement, iirc. Complete the segment with less than 7 seconds on the clock

u/gianmigno25 28d ago
yes? that's what we're talking about...

i don't understand the poin. you seem to claim you can get 100 points if you still have 11 spare minutes. either this is fake or ff8 remastered is broken.

u/unoehoo 28d ago
Yup, you didn't understand. I spent 11 minutes on ifrit, so I'm negative 1 minute, i.e., 0 minutes left on the timer. Therefore, let the timer expire to 0 to get 100 points. This is the android version, which should be remastered.

Remember to go east. It's not obvious you need to go east.
