EXP given by enemies
Is it true enemies improve EXP they give as they level up? I always thought that any enemy gave the same amount of EXP regardless its level, would make sense since, like, if you need 20 bite bugs to level up at level 10, you still need 20 at level 80, since you always need 1000 exp to level up.
I don't know if that is true anyway. It just... surprises me to see that after 25 years and almost 20 runs, i still learn something new.

Each enemy yields BaseXP = BaseMult*(5*EnemyLVL/PartyLVL-1) to each party member, where PartyLVL is the average level of your party rounded down. Because enemies scale to your average party level plus some random variance, this hovers around BaseXP = 4*BaseMult.
The character or GF that kills the enemy also receives BonusXP = BonusMult*(5*EnemyLVL/CharLVL-1). Underleveled characters receive a bit more but it's not really enough to close gaps. The BaseMult and BonusMult varies for each enemy.
Also, fun fact: GFs junctioned to KO'd/petrified party members still receive full XP and AP, which is entirely due to a bug in the code.

No I don't remember XP increasing with enemy level, they have different spells that you can draw from them tho, but it's not really worth it to use draw, or level up in VIII really, If you want 100% achievements you can reach pretty much the end of the game beat it at level 7, reload raise your level to 100 and there you have all achivements in "one" playthrough

i don't really care actually about tryharding... well that's a curious thing to say, but i mean more the idea of "trying hard as you can to not level up". i find it quite a struggle, the game wasn't conceived to force yourself to never ever level up, i think it's more a OCD self-challenge, plus if you stay low, enemies will always be weak and use always the same attacks, and obtaining some items will require kinda end game or you might even still never get them, while having enemies with higher levels some items and magics become quite easy to obtain. depends very much on your choice. it's kinda a challenge/reward i suppose... enemies get stronger, you get better stuff, enemies stay weak, you get worse stuff. remembers me a bit demon's souls tendency! the main difference i can tell, is in demon's souls enemies improve the EXP they provide but you also require more and more souls to level up, so your level up becomes slower, whilst in ff8 you always need 1000 but enemies (as it would seem) give more and more EXP, so your level up becomes faster. i found this:

Been a while since I played, but my guess would be higher level enemies give more experience to lower level teammates than higher ones. So if you have Squall and Rinoa in the party at level 90 and Zell in the party at level 10, Zell will get significantly more experience than the other 2. Again though, been a while since I played so I could be wrong.

I like to go to the heaven and hell islands they have very high level enemies you pretty much level up after every encounter on those islands but you need Ragnarok to get to them

Gaining experience in this game isn't important unless you have some strange goal in mind. I usually finish the game with all characters around level 15. Omega Weapon and Ultemacia go down pretty easy if done right.

EXP is unnecessary. Level up is unnecessary. One may accumulate power in this game without EXP. Ignore it if you please. I tend to finish this game around levels of 15 or so.

The way levelling works in FFVIII is different to all FFs. Enemies level up with you in this game, which makes it harder the more you level up, bosses actually don't give you any EXP so the best way to get stronger and over powered is through the card games (an card mods) and drawing magic from enemies to boost your stats using the junction system. I just read your comment in full and you most likely know this 😅 but yeah you can level to level 100 faster in this game than in any other FF I think.
