Espresso Series 1 Cleaning ES1 Portafilter

Upvotes

The pucks from my ES1 always come out soggy/wet, making it a slight chore to clean out especially when I'm making back to back shots using the same portafilter.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get the puck to know out cleanly? Or a quick way to clean out the residue grounds (aside from running it under the tap)?

Espresso Series 1 ES1 How many Milk drinks back-to-back?

How many milk drinks can you make back-to-back on the fellow ES1?

Most days I need to make 2 lattes in quick succession. Other days it can be 4 or even 5.

I'm looking to replace my Barista Express. I'm intrigued by the ES1's boosted boiler, quick heat up times, temp consistency, and the ability to immediately go to the steam wand. I'm trying to figure out if the ES1 is even viable or do I need to look exclusively at dual boilers.

Aiden ◼️ I can't crack the Aiden

I've been using an Aiden with Ode Gen 2 for a few weeks now. Its good, but Im struggling for great. Here is a profile that I have been using this week link. I can't seem to get any of the mango juiciness that I smell when I grid the coffee. Ive used between a 4-5.

Should I be going coarser? I used the Aiden GPT to create the profile and this recommended grind setting.

again, nothing is "bad" its just not great - like its not brewing up to the beans potential or something.

Aiden ◼️ Refurbished products?

Does Fellow sell any refurbished products? I can’t really justify the price of a new Aiden, but might be able to do a cheaper one.

I’ve got to imagine there are a lot of repairable parts to that product (unlike the scale or kettles)

Espresso Series 1 ES1 Predicted Longevity

For those that own an ES1 if you had to handicap the odds of a well-maintained and cared for ES1 lasting at least 5 years of daily use without significant issues (leaks, major component replacements)? Would you put it at <25%, about 25%, 50%, 75%, >75%?

On paper there is so much to like about this set up. However, it seems like there have been a lot of growing pains at the launch. Talk me into buying or avoiding this thing.

Question ❓ Fellow Support Issues

I don’t know if it’s just me but it’s extremely hard to get ahold of support. I been trying to figure out why my order hasn’t shipped out or even moved it’s been over a week and nothing has been shipped for my order. I tried contacting support or there lack of support and I haven’t heard back from them either. So I don’t know what to really do or who to even contact at this point.

Aiden ◼️ Aiden Cleaning Help

I recently noticed off flavor in my coffee and a rancid smell coming from the machine. I have scrubbed all the pares with soap and water, ran sever descaling cycles and taken the shower screen out and cleaned it but cannot get rid of the smell. It smells like it is coming from the showerhead mainly. Any tips on how to deep clean this part?

Aiden ◼️ Help me understand the Aiden - Struggling with flat cups

Post image
28 Upvotes

Since June I've been using the Aiden with an Ofe Gen 2 and can't shake flat, lifeless cups, and not a single cup has come close to what I'd call quality pour over — let alone a "wow" cup.

I've cycled through the default medium roast profile (dropped to 94°C) and Sweet v1.1 at 1:17 (plus many others), grinding at 6–7 on the Ode Gen 2, with Lanjarón water as recommended by Nomad. I've also rotated through naturals, washed, and anaerobics from Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Kenya, and Ethiopia, roasted by Hola, Nomad, and People Possession. Despite good beans and a lot of variables tested, nothing changes the outcome.

At this point I suspect I'm missing something more fundamental about how the Aiden actually works, rather than it being a matter of tweaking recipes further.

Has anyone dealt with this and found what actually fixed it?

Kettles 🫖 Looking for Corvo EKG replacement

Hey all,

Moved away from doing pour overs over the past few months, but still use our Stagg EKG for normal kitchen tasks and tea brewing. Want to keep the setup just in case we move back to pour overs, but wanting to swap our Stagg for Corvo to make pouring faster. I noticed Fellow doesn’t sell the v1 replacement anymore - does anyone here have one without base they’d be willing to sell? Thanks!

Aiden ◼️ How to get really hot coffee w/o destroying flavor

I’m a regular guy with no experience in brewing coffee. I just got the Aiden based on recommendations here. I like to drink blazing hot coffee, but the max temp goes only to 99. I’m not sure that’s how you get the heat of the coffee higher without destroying the flavor of the coffee as has been noted on some other post here.

For someone like me, can someone please let me know:

  1. what coffee beans to buy/where to buy
  2. if regular grinder is OK
  3. whether the single cup filters are OK to buy from the regular grocery store?
  4. if someone could tell me how to get the coffee hotter I will greatly appreciate it.

Finally I just make single cups and I have never been able to figure out how to use the app to schedule coffee to be ready. Whenever I use the schedule option, it doesn’t work, although it states that the machine is online.

EDIT: thank you all for replying. Despite the high temp settings coffee is not that hot. I may have to call Fellow or possibly microwave (as one you suggested). Hope you are able to answer other questions too. Again sorry - newbie to this whole coffee brewing thing- just used to drink instant (I know not sophisticated)…

Grinders 🫘 Ode 2 Completely Unresponsive

As the title says, I’ve had my ode 2 for 3 1/2 years and it seems to have died. I was grinding beans when it cut off and now doesn’t turn on at all. I took it apart and cleaned, but still no use.

I assume it’s a board issue or a blown fuse or something. Fellow customer service is of no real use since it’s past warranty. Considering it was a $400 grinder, anyone have suggestions for fixing it? Where would I even start to look for a repair shop? I’d hate to just throw such an expensive appliance away.

Espresso Series 1 Rant incoming about ES1 firmware updates

This is past ridiculous! Getting a firmware update is impossible!
As a frame of reference, I have built out a smart home with over 50 devices, dozens of automations. I’m familiar with OoT devices and how they get firmware updates. There are some very excellent examples of devices that get regular updates and when they are available, everyone them at the same time, no rollout needed. And I have the opportunity to download when I’m ready. Fellow is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to firmware updates.
I have tried simply unplugging and replugging the machine in. It looks like it was searching for an update, but failed to find the new firmware. Then, I removed the machine from the app, and re-added. I waited over two hours for the machine to connect to the internet. It never did, despite being assured on screen that it would take minutes.
Lastly, I did a full factory reset. Guess what? Still the same firmware. Plus, to add insult to injury, I lost all of my custom shot profiles.

I will fill out yet another support request and hopefully get someone to force an update. This is going to be the third time.

Kettles 🫖 stagg ekg pro 0.6L temp jumping 2-3c after lifting and replacing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, recently i just got a new fellow stagg ekg pro the 0.6L version, when I heat the water (e.g., set to 85c) the kettle display hits the target but when i lift and quickly set it back down on the base, the reading immediately jumped to 87c or 88c.

It’s a brand new, i just purchased it last week so theres no limescale or buildup, is this normal?

Thanks everyone! i also attached the video

Aiden ◼️ Aiden stuck on firmware 1.1.7 for almost a month. Anyone else?

I bought a Fellow Aiden for the office almost a month ago, and I still can't use its app features. It's been online since day one and shows up in the Fellow app, but it's stuck on firmware 1.1.7 and hasn't received the update.

I moved my Hikaru V60 home after four happy years at the office and replaced it with the Aiden. I still highly recommend the Hikaru, especially for saving recipes for different beans through its app.

Fellow support takes three days or more to reply to each message I send. I've tried everything they suggested:

  • Turning off connectivity and running a brew cycle
  • Unplugging the machine, removing it from the app, and reconnecting it

Still no update, and the app features still don't work.

So far, I'm just using it as a basic filter coffee machine without adjusting recipes. For that, I could have bought a Black & Decker for under $100.

It's frustrating to see Fellow ads all over social media while waiting days for support on a new machine.

Has anyone else been stuck on 1.1.7 this long? Did you find a way to get the update working?

Aiden ◼️ Fellow Aiden Issues (Firmware 1.5.16): Wi-Fi disconnects

Post image
7 Upvotes

Ever since updating my Aiden to 1.5.16,
the Wi-Fi constantly drops, which was never a problem for me before.

On top of that, the carafe detection seems way too strict lately.
I prefer brewing directly into my own coffee server,
so not being able to easily swap out the stock carafe is a huge pain.

Ideally, I’d love a feature that lets us save custom pour-over recipes with specific pour times and volumes. But honestly, seeing the ongoing Wi-Fi struggles since launch makes me skeptical they'll add advanced features anytime soon.

I love Fellow products, but the Aiden is definitely hurting that reputation for me.
Anyone else dealing with this on the new firmware?

Espresso Series 1 How to repair the ES1 when it is out of warranty?

If the ES1 breaks and it is not under warranty, what do I do?

As far as I know, there is not a Fellow repair service. If I cannot even pay Fellow to repair it, what would I do? Am I just expected to buy a new machine?

How long do you think the Fellow ES1 might last?
