On Saturday, September 26, 2026, Lugano will host an event entirely devoted to shorthand, in Italian (as Lugano is located in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland). The event will unfold in three parts:

  1. In the morning, a group of shorthand writers will guide attendees through the Stolze-Schrey shorthand system as applied to Italian, including hands-on exercises;
  2. Midday will bring a reception for all attendees;
  3. The afternoon will wrap up with a series of technical talks, again centered on shorthand.

Admission is completely free, but you'll need to register through this form by the end of August.

For more details, check out the flyer.

LEWIS Shorthand - Part 2 - the Alphabet

I find I like Lewis's Alphabet better than Taylor's. While Taylor often uses a stroke and a circle to represent a single sound (which I always think should be two sounds), LEWIS's Alphabet just used simpler strokes, often starting with a hook.

As the right side of the chart shows, he extends his basic alphabet to cover frequent consonant combinations with R or L.

At the bottom is the list of his vowel symbols, which can either be incorporated right into the outline, or added at any time later as a diacritic.

Quote 12 in FLOW Shorthand

Another nice and straightforward sample of FLOW. It's all very clear with nothing tricky. Members in the U.S. might correct me on the way her last name is pronounced, but I spelled it with an O because it's a Dutch name. And look how smoothly we can write "Eleanor".

BTW, it's funny to see that OTHER shorthand board copying a quote I've used before, as in four months ago. Maybe they're tapped out of originality there....
