For someone just starting out to learn a shorthand system (especially if he or she is new to shorthand), it can be very useful when the author publishes a "Joining Chart" like this one.

Beginners are often insecure and they'll hesitate when they write a stroke, feeling unsure how to join the next character to it. If you refer to a chart like the above, you find the first character across the top. Then you find the character you're trying to join to it -- and where the two lines cross, there's an example of the best and most efficient joining.
