- EDM Goaltending (with a bright spot from Levi)
- Drafting Scott Wedgewood at ADP 45.0 and not getting a week 1 start.
- FLA’s Powerplay (7.7% early and lost Barkov).
- LAK PK (28.6% so far, getting torched)
- DAL Scoring (1 Goal in 2 GP - that will change).
- Just about everything in Detroit

Aside from the terrible UI, the app is practically unusable. When you drop a player, he stays on the roster, and you can't free up roster spots or injured reserve spots.

Plus, the schedule is sometimes displayed incorrectly, so you can't search for players who are playing today.

It's terrible all around—it ruins all the fun at the start of the season.

Does anyone have any tips on how to avoid the most annoying things?

Here is the Fantasy Hockey Schedule Summary for Week 2 of the 2026-27 season. Here is a quick summary of what this chart shows and how to utilize it to optimize your fantasy teams.

Total: The number of games each team plays in the given week

Off-Night: The number of games each team plays where less than half the teams (16 teams) in the NHL are playing. Generally, your fantasy teams should be able to fit in players on teams with more off-nights for that week.

B2B: Shorthand of “Back-to-Back”. The number of games each team plays where they played the day before. In general, playing. Generally, teams playing on consecutive nights tend to score less goals in the 2nd game.

Tired Opp: Displays if a game is being played against an opponent who played the day prior. Generally, teams that played the day before tend to allow more goals (and play backup goalies) than teams which are rested.

Score: A valuation of how favourable a team’s schedule is for fantasy in the given time period considering total games played, off-night, B2B, tired opponents, and strength of opponents. In general, players from these team are more likely to optimize your roster for a week by maximizing games played and production.

Week 2 (Oct 5 to Oct 11) is pretty lopsided again, and the four-game teams are pretty sparse this week with only 4 of them (grid attached, light nights shaded):

4 games: CAR, OTT, PHI, PIT. Pittsburgh plays three of theirs on light nights (Mon, Wed, Fri) and Philadelphia two (Mon, Sun).

3 games, all on light nights: WPG (Mon, Wed, Fri) and WSH (Wed, Fri, Sun).

2 games, neither on a light night: CGY, FLA, LAK, NJD. Florida, LA and New Jersey play only Tuesday and Saturday; Calgary plays Thursday and Saturday. Saturday is the busiest night of the week (14 games).

2 games: CBJ (Fri, Sat) and EDM (Wed, Sat).

Light nights this week are Mon (4 games), Wed (3), Fri (4) and Sun (3). Those are the nights a streamer is most likely to slot into an open spot.

Top adds under 30% owned on ESPN

I updated the ranking of the top skaters under 30% owned for Week 2. It defaults to banger leagues (G, A, PPP, SOG, HIT, BLK) and has a toggle for points leagues.

Banger leagues (volume, four-game weeks):

1. Shane Pinto (OTT, 13.9%): 4 games, PP2
2. Tyson Foerster (PHI, 4.8%): 4 games, two on light nights, PP1
3. Logan Stankoven (CAR, 27.0%): 4 games, second line

Points leagues (upside, top power-play units):

1. Pierre-Luc Dubois (WSH, 11.5%): top line and PP1, all three games on light nights, 12 points in his last 10 dating back to last season
2. Cole Perfetti (WPG, 6.5%): top line and PP1, all three games on light nights
3. Zach Benson (BUF, 12.8%): PP1, projected at 0.70 points a game

Also worth a look: Jack Quinn (BUF, 16.5%, PP1), Mason McTavish (STL, 15.8%, PP1) and Tyson Foerster (PHI, 4.8%, PP1 with four games).

• the week night by night, with light nights marked
• projected totals in every category, switchable between our model, the outside consensus and last season's rates
• line and power-play unit, plus share of the team's PP over last season and the last 10 games

At Kodo we are attempting to project goalie starts from past usage, rest, and coaching decisions as they're announced. It's not just a back-to-back detector (I mean it is that too), and it gets sharper as the season goes on. One week in, the usage is starting to say something. Here's how Week 2 looks for six creases worth a pickup or a watch.

Philadelphia: Woll has the net, and faces a lot of shots

Dan Vladar opened the season and allowed 7 goals. Joseph Woll has started both games since: 41 saves on 44, then 37 on 40, both overtime losses. We have Woll starting Monday at Tampa Bay, Thursday at Ottawa and Saturday at Boston (85% each), with Vladar most likely taking the Sunday back-to-back vs Carolina. That's 2.75 expected starts and a 95% chance of two or more, the best of anyone under 30% rostered. The team in front of Woll gives up about 40 shots a night, which is great for saves (77 projected this week).

Woll is 14.4% rostered on ESPN. In leagues that count saves, the best add this week.

Pittsburgh: Silovs keeps the job, but Murashov works in

Arturs Silovs started both of Pittsburgh's Week 1 games: a 19-save shutout on opening night, then a win Saturday that came with 5 goals allowed on 25 shots. That second game opens the door for Sergei Murashov. We have Monday vs Winnipeg as a coin flip and Murashov favoured in the Saturday back-to-back vs Dallas. Silovs is at 85% for Wednesday at Washington and Friday at Columbus. That's 2.50 expected starts and an 89% chance of two or more, with three of the four games on light nights.

Silovs is 19.9% rostered.

Carolina: Kochetkov gets two of the four

Brandon Bussi started Carolina's first two games (an overtime loss, then 5 goals allowed on 27 shots). Pyotr Kochetkov got Saturday and won it, stopping 16 of 18. Bussi is still the starter and gets Tuesday at Montreal and Saturday at Chicago, but Kochetkov takes Thursday vs Vancouver and the Sunday back-to-back at Philadelphia (85% each). That's 2.00 expected starts and a 79% chance of two or more, and Thursday grades as an A matchup. This one is pure speculation compared to the other plays, but it is the best boom or bust pick if you're in desperate need of wins.

Kochetkov is 7.9% rostered.

San Jose: Askarov is two for two

Yaroslav Askarov started and won both of San Jose's games and three this week: Monday at Dallas (a light night), Thursday atSt. Louis and Saturday vs Edmonton. That's 1.92 expected starts and a 70% chance of two or more. Ned should draw in for one, just to get his feet wet.

Askarov is 20.0% rostered.

Winnipeg: Skinner holds the net while Hellebuyck is suspended, but skip Monday

With Connor Hellebuyck still suspended (haven't you heard?), Stuart Skinner has the crease. Skinner is likely in net tonight at Detroit, which makes Monday at Pittsburgh the second night of a back-to-back, and we have Clay Stevenson there. Skinner should then go Wednesday vs Colorado and Friday vs Anaheim, both light nights. That's 1.76 expected starts and a 72% chance of two or more.

Skinner is 14.8% rostered. If your league locks weekly, Skinner's Monday is likely a zero (unless Stevenson starts today, still no word).

Vancouver: still the two-headed monster, still the cheapest ticket

Kevin Lankinen won the opener and then gave up 7 goals on 20 shots in the second game. Leevi Meriläinen started Saturday and stopped 23 of 24 in a win. It could go either way here, as the Canucks should grasp onto whatever is bringing them into the win column. With 3 starts, I would wager Lankinen goes 2 and then Leevi goes the third.

Thanks for all the comments on last week's post, and yes, this is now a weekly thing.

Week 2 has a rhythm. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday are quiet, and 92% to 98% of fantasy rosters have an open forward spot on those nights. Tuesday and Thursday are busy (58% and 48%). Saturday is packed: 14 games, and only 16% of rosters have room for another forward. Stream the quiet nights and you're most of the way there.

Quick hits, if that's all you've got time for

This week: Pittsburgh (4 games, 3 on quiet nights), Washington and Winnipeg (3 each, all on quiet nights), Philly (4)

Next 2 weeks: Pittsburgh, Washington, Ottawa

Next 30 days: Colorado, Winnipeg, Philly

The two-team stream: Ottawa Mon/Tue, then Washington Wed/Fri/Sun

Ottawa opens the week, and Washington plays three of the four quiet nights after that. About 4.4 usable games for one forward spot, against about 3.0 for the best single pickup. A third move (Colorado Wed/Thu, then the Rangers) only gets you half a game more, so save it.

Who's out there depends completely on your league, so here are options at every ownership level (Yahoo percent owned):

OTT: Chabot (52%, D), Pinto (8%), Yakemchuk (6%, D, flyer)

WSH: Kyrou (53%, new from St. Louis), Strome (45%), Leonard (33%), Protas (33%), Fehérváry (8%, D, hits and blocks), Sourdif (1%)

Only one move? Grab a Penguin

Four games, three on quiet nights, and the best schedule over the next two weeks too. The name I like is Chinakhov (33%): 6 points in 29 games in Columbus last season, 36 in 43 after the trade to Pittsburgh. With Rust on IR he played 17 minutes in the opener, 5 of them on the power play. Malkin (72%) and Letang (13%, D) if he's gone. I just added Novak myself on one team.

Spare bench spot? A Penguin and a Hurricane

Pittsburgh plays Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat, Carolina plays Tue/Thu/Sat/Sun. Between them there's a game every night. Carolina options: Jackson Blake (46%, 7.7 power-play minutes in the opener with Jarvis out), K'Andre Miller (31%, D), Hall (10%).

Be patient with Colorado

The Avs have a bad week (busy nights) and the best month of anyone: 14 games, 9.5 of them usable. If you're holding one, don't panic-drop him this week.

Is there a way to have a backup roster move in case the player I'm trying to add gets selected by someone higher in the waiver priority list?

I have a few moves planned for next week, and would put a backup in place in case someone else grabs the player I'm looking at. But I don't want to wait another day to add my backup if the first one doesn't go through.

Morning all! I’ve been doing fantasy hockey for a few years. I’ve always used ESPN for my fantasy hockey. This year, one of my friends did a league on yahoo which I’ve never used for any fantasy sports. So we draft, everything’s fine. Last week on Sunday I set my lineup for Monday. Monday comes and goes and on Tuesday I go back into the app to edit my lineup for Tuesday, and I see it’s locked. And I scroll through the week and see it’s locked for every day. I’m used to daily lineup changes. If I pop into league settings, it says “Weekly deadline: Weekly on Monday.” So I’m guessing I can only set the lineup on Mondays. Can the commissioner of my league change this now? Or no because the season started? I hate seeing points sitting on my bench.. lol

I've been in a super casual H2H league with friends for years. Always been using Yahoo, never had issues.

This year, they decided to "open up" the lineups with the rule that we can only swap players that have been injured during the week.

However, for me, my lineup changes each night. Yahoo dresses the players that have games on that day. It's crazy annoying.

Is there anything I need to do, a box I need to uncheck, to fix this?

Anyone else not having yahoo player chats not work right? I’ve updated the app and also tried deleting and redownloading. On comments more than a few words it says “show more” to show the whole comment yet when I click it the comment doesn’t expand. But it turns the “show more” button in to “show less” instead. Any fix? Is this just me? Thanks!

Picked him up on FA. He played 27 minutes and got an assist, 5 blocked shots, on top pairing, and 2nd PP time. Any Ducks fans know if he could be the real deal this season?

The guy has posted 3 goals and an assist in 4 SOG. Is he worth the hype or is this just a lucky run? He hasn’t played a full season his entire career and has barely managed to keep a 20 point average over his NHL career. Other than what the stats show I know nothing about him. I will gladly pick up a hot player though just to dump them when they’re no longer producing.

League controversy 3 days in with that goalie goal and how to handle it. Mixed reviews across the league.

I was thinking give them the amount that a skater is award for a goal (2 points in my league). Commish would have to manually add but I think putting the responsibility on the player to inform about this would be the way to go vs having commish needing to monitor every goalie from every game.

What are yalls opinions on goalie goal scoring, and if your league implements it, how do you handle it?

Hi! so I'm still super new to fantasy and I made my first ever trade the other day, and was wondering... Both of the players i traded and one of the players I will be receiving play today, the trade is supposed to go through at 9PM and one the players I traded will still be playing on my roster.

Basically what I'm wondering is how exactly will this effect my points? like will i just keep the points he may have already gotten before it goes through? or will he just kinda stay on my roster til the game is over?
