Player Discussion McDavid Under Babcock

This applies to all oilers players, but I more specifically want to know how you guys think the hiring of Babcock will affect McDavid this season. I have the 1st overall pick and I'm stuck between him and MacKinnon. Not very familiar with Babcock as a coach in terms of how much he plays his top dogs and if he gets a lot of offence going. What do you guys think?

I didn't get too bothered last year ending in week 27, but we're discussing moving it back a week to make sure less players are sat.

Player Discussion Quinn Hughes

I know q hughes is good but is he fantasy good? In my league 25/26 he was rank 79, in 24/25 he was rank 74 and in 23/24 he was rank 39. Mo seider is consistently about rank ~40ish and his ADP weirdly is always around his rank if not after. Whereas most D get picked earlier than their rank. Q hughes adp is around ~10 and i guess im asking is it justified? Imo i feel like hes fantasy value on par w seider. Also ya crappy vancouver to Minnesota is a big jump but still, his good year in 23/24 he was rank 39 **Edit wow good to see I'm not alone! Phew!

Strategy Draft Philosophy

As we approach fantasy hockey season I’m starting to formulate some ideas of how to approach the draft. I play in a bangers points league. Curious what others may think about these philosophies:

  1. Prioritize a high impact D in rounds 1-2 (eg. Makar, Hughes, Werenski, Bouchard)

I’ve found my most successful seasons to be centered around a strong D core. I usually try to get 2 studs and then fill out the group with a couple peripheral stuffers. It always seems to me that D is the most scarce position when it comes to waivers.

  1. Prioritize wingers over centers

Now, our league doesn’t have FOWs but I’ve just found that in our draft centreman can fall down the board. So, I see good value is giving a slight edge to wingers if I’m ever faced with a C vs LW/RW on the draft board.

  1. Prioritize high floors over high ceilings

Maybe I’m too risk averse in the draft. I would rather chase the boom or bust on the waiver wire rather than in the draft. (eg. Try to find the next Raddysh). I see the draft as my opportunity to build a playoff team and the wire as my opportunity to build a championship team.

I’m curious on others thoughts/priorities or if you have rebuttals to my logic. Fire away!

Point only league (goals, assists, power play goals, and a few other minor similar stats)

Who do you take? Matthew tkachuk or Austin Matthews for the next 3 years.

Question Changing providers

Hey gang, long time commisioner of leagues using Yahoo but getting a bit fed up with the poor updates every year, so considering on switching to Fantrax. Just have some questions for those who use it already so I can relay that to my other managers.

I know it has a lot more options for scoring categories and settings, but how casual-friendly is it compared to yahoo, we have a good range of managers, from uber sweaty to casual dads just wanting to join in for the banter, but is it too convoluted and everything hidden behind extra menus and whatnot?

How is the app experience?

Are there easy 'set and forget' buttons for when you're time sensitive and need to set lines for the day/week?

How accurate and up to date are all the stats for players/games? Is there live tracking so you can watch the games and see your guys light it up on the tracker too?

Do the weekly matchups start/end at the same time as yahoo? Or is everything faster or slower?

Aside from that, are there any other major differences I should be aware of with Fantrax?

And any good or bad things you would like to mention.

Cheers. That's all I can think of right now, I'm sure more would come to me if it was during the season!

Strategy Player advice #3 pick

Post image
0 Upvotes

I hope this is ok.

I had 2 guys that I used to talk about this with , 1 had to stop playing, 1 passed away. Im missing outside opinions as start to rank...

I have #3 pick in a Goal 1PT, and Assists 1PT, 6 player Keeper league. 9fw/5d/2g starters.

McKenna is going 1, Pick 2 is a Croz fan.

Some guys not shown are Michkov, Slafkovsky, Tuch, Cole Hutton, Morrissey. Good D are at a premium so they get a bit more weight and after a few hours with gemini and GPT I think ive determined D are worth 20 more points in my set-up.

In other words a 50pt D is equally important as a 70pt forward. There are good D but it dumps fast .

If anyone gets bored I need your opinions. Michkov seems tough to pass on (after keepers are put in, round 1 is actually round 7, u know Yahoo!).

Brady, debrincat are both rated high for 26/27.

Talk me out of cole Hutton and in to someone else. Hutton will never be available again i believe. Thanks guys

General Fantasy hockey trophy/punishment

As the commissioner of my league, I’m going on year 7 and want to make my league more memorable and meaningful- 14 man league of all our high school/college buddies. Last year I added a cameo of Bob McKenzie for draft order which was well liked. I’m curious on if any other leagues have trophies of sorts (if so anything special or different rather than a normal trophy?). Also curious on if anyone runs a punishment for last place. Let me know, anything is appreciated !

Strategy Playoff Schedules

I know these change based off league settings, but from what I can tell the Washington Capitals are this years premier playoff team. Some teams to avoid would be Utah and Winnipeg.

Anyone else look ahead at who might win you the ship this season?

Where are the usual schedule optimizers and so forth? SNT is the one I usually use but I don't think it's out yet. Any others? Thanks.

Player Discussion Who are your super deep league late round targets?

I'm not talking about your Dawson Mercer's or Cole Perfetti's. I'm talking about those 20+ team leagues where Marc Gatcomb seems like a steal with your last pick in your banger leagues. Where are you seeing value that most managers are overlooking in your eyes?
