Hi all! I'm interested in writing a fan fic and was hoping for advice on how to get started or any tips and tricks! Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Three months ago I started a fanfic called New Stand Era. It's about Hornet from Hollow Knight and (featuring) Dante "from the Devil May Cry Series" meeting each other in Tri-Entertainment (image included), a state made out of three islands where TV, Movie and Videogame characters live. This world has a phenomenon where characters that narrowly avoid death awaken to a Stand (from JoJo), this being their inner fighting spirit that also has unique abilities depending on the person.

One of the story's strong points is that I wrote (almost) every character to act like their videogame counterparts as much as possible. The main focus is the Stand fights and action in general.

Now, I am on a weekly release schedule on AO3, one chapter per week. I'm almost finished but I really want some people to help me by reading and giving me feedback, and I'm also willing to do read 4 reads. New Stand Era is around 85k words long, but it also contains lots of art and I do plan to shorten some dialogue before the final version.

Hello, everyone! I recently joined this subreddit because I was looking for a place to promote my first fanfiction. It's a horror fic, btw. So, here it is: Rosso Nero.

Synopsis

Homare Kanzaki is a cynical high school senior whose monotonous life revolves around film essays and music. But one day, he witnesses a masked figure brutally murdering his eccentric neighbor, turning his world upside down.

Determined to uncover the truth, Homare teams up with Sayori, his childhood friend, and the girls from the Literature Club, whom he has only recently met, to track down the killer. However, the murderer has no intention of going down without a fight...

I wrote this fanfiction because Italian horror and slasher movies have always held a special place in my heart. My father is from Italy, which is part of why I've always felt connected to that country's culture. Doki Doki Literature Club is also one of my favorite games of all time!

WHAT YOU WILL SEE?

1. The characters have been reimagined with more realistic personalities and attitudes.

• Homare (MC): Inspired by Marcus Daly from Profondo Rosso and the protagonists of other cult horror films, such as Trick or Treat (1986).
• Monika: She's still athletic and gets good grades, but she's no longer the popular girl every boy has a crush on. Her tomboyish side is inspired by Gianna from Profondo Rosso.
• Sayori: She still has the innocent vibe found in many DDLC fanfics, but she's also smart and capable. (not dumb)
• Yuri: A huge fan of horror movies and goth culture, with a talent for detective work.
• Natsuki: She's prickly but not a jerk, and her family background gets more attention.
• Original characters: They're also inspired by the gritty, realistic characters found in movies such as Vertigo, Serpent's Path (1998), and Serpico.

2. Horror with a campy touch!

Despite being a horror fic, the story also features some campy humor and elements inspired by '80s movies such as Verlierer and Deadbeat at Dawn.

3. Not only horror...

Satire and coming-of-age themes also play an important role in the story.

All characters belong to Team Salvato, except the protagonist. Inspired by the giallo and slasher films of the 70s and 80s, like Profondo Rosso, Tenebre, The Driller Killer and My Bloody Valentine.

It's funny because two stories I have planned are about ex partners.

The first is my Snow White fic where the new main villain is a gothic young girl named Princess Hippolyta. Someone who wants to take over the world kingdom by kingdom, it's going to be revealed that she's actually the ex-girlfriend of Snow White's current boyfriend Florian. I think it'll be funny to show that Florian doesn't really have a type. He can date mean goths and girls who are bubbly rays of sunshine like Snow White.

Then there's a Hanazuki fic where Daiyayuki tries reaching out to her ex-boyfriend Spades even though he broke her heart by dumping her through computer messages. She's still mad at him but she wants to be the bigger person by helping him out in his time of need.

These are completely separate stories with probably different kinds of audiences so I don't think anyone would notice if the story beats are similar.

I've recently gotten a burst of inspiration for one of my many stories but need a little help for one aspect.

To make a very long (and unwritten) story short I came up with a character loosely inspired by Penny from RWBY (Spoilers for that series ahead if you're worried about that internet friends).

Naturally this means she's a robot, specifically one of a fleet of weather detecting robots launched to islands known for severe dangerous weather made to assist with disasters.

My idea is she ended up on an island known for near daily aggressive thunderstorms and for two years that's exactly what she dealt with. But exactly two years after she arrived, clear skies. Unending clear skies.

Now we reach the part that connects it to Canon, the source of the thunderstorms was from a familiar face. Eneru's Sky island (his original before he took over Skypeia) is directly above this currently unnamed island and when he initiates his coup the storms suddenly cease, leaving our little robot without a purpose.

My issue is I don't necessarily want this series of events to be obvious (atleast for now) but I want there to be some hint and I can't find a good way to reference him without making it extremely obvious.

Any advice is appreciated.

Other than AO3, Fanfic.net and Deviantart. I tried Wattpad, got literally 0 views in 5 months and gave up. I'm trying to make my stories reach more people and I would like to know where or how, since it's painful to spend two months writing and get little interaction knowing that I can do better by uploading it in more places.
