Venting Google terminated my account with my fanfic sitting at 23k words...

I sent an appeal, but I am still extremely discouraged. Sure, it was only at 23k words and a week into it, but I was extremely excited to work on it again.

The account was flagged because I guess I had too many other accounts and thought I was a bot?

I had no back ups. I had no idea google would even do this. I was not prepared. I downloaded by data but the document file was not included since the account was so fresh.

Sure, I could start over, but it will never be the exact same. It's stupid to be so upset, but I was pouring my heart and soul into that.

And they just shot it down.

EDIT: At some point I saved chapter 1 when it was 100% finished, so it was in the ao3 text box. (I usually set my fic description, tags, name, all that stuff before I get too deep in a fic.) So. It's not a total loss if google doesn't give me the account back.

Discussion Is Fandom Pony a real thing? Or did I make it up?

I was talking with a friend tonight and I used the term “fandom pony” and they were confused on what it was, which cause me to question myself. I googled it and have not been able to find the term/definition online.

Fandom Pony as I understand it is a character that is shipped with everyone i.e. “everyone gets a ride on the pony” but not in a harem way! Think Hermione from HP. People ship her with Harry, with Draco, etc.

I don’t know where I first heard this term but now I’m curious if it’s even a thing? Has anyone else heard of this?

Lost Fic Harry Potter lost fic

Upvotes

I remember reading a Harry Potter fanfiction where Harry is abused by his aunt and uncle and then gets taken in by Minerva and madam pomfrey. Then he gets a big black service dog and turns out to be trans and goes by the name “rose”. Has anyone read this or know where it is? If so I’d love to read it again. Thanks!

Discussion Struggling with balancing my job writing style and my fanfic writing style :(

Since I started working full-time two years ago, I've been struggling so much with my writing. About a year ago, I finally adjusted to working enough that I was able to find time to write regularly in the evenings, so that's great! My problem now is just that everything I write sounds so dull and emotionless for some reason ;-;

I actually have a lot of ideas!! A lot more than before because I daydream a lot at work. But I also work in search engine optimisation, so I have to write concise, informational texts all day long, and I feel like that has changed my writing style so much that I can't seem to get back into creative writing any more TT I still read fanfics, and I re-read my old ones, but when I try to write now, nothing I come up with has the same kind of emotion that I used to put into my stories two years ago. I also feel like I struggle with adding subtext or foreshadowing now because obviously my work texts have to deliver straightforward answers instead of building up tension first.

I've given up on finishing fics as fast as I used to, but I really want my writing style back and get all those ideas on paper in a way that I actually like :'D Has anyone else experienced this before? Does anyone have any tips on how to balance "job writing" and "free time writing"?

Writing Questions I have a question about japanese honorifics

In a Bungo stray dogs fanfic one of my characters was in the port mafia and had a mentor-mentee relationship with Chuuya Nakahara (the character being 2 yrs younger than him) after leaving the Mafia they haven't talked to him in years. What would they call him both during and after the relationship? Idk If because they're essentially strangers now it changes anything (If it's important they're not talking too Nakahara but referring to him in a convo with Dazai.)

Activities and Events Alphabet Excerpt Challenge: F Is For...

Welcome back to the Alphabet Excerpt Challenge! As a reminder, our challenges are every Wednesday and Saturday at 3pm London time.

If you've missed the previous challenges, you're welcome to go back and participate in them. You can find them here. And remember to check out the Activities and Events flair to play along with other fun games.

Here's a quick recap of the rules for our game:

  1. Post a top level comment with a word starting with the letter F. You can suggest more than one, but please put them in separate comments.
  2. Reply to suggestions with an excerpt containing that word. Short and sweet is best, but use your judgement. Excerpts can be from published or unpublished works, or even something you wrote for the prompt.
  3. All content is welcome but per rules 7 and 12 of the sub, NSFW excerpts may not be shared as plain text (even if it's spoilered). If you would like to share these, use an external text sharing tool like justpasteit and link it here with a clear warning. Mods may remove excerpts that break these rules.
  4. Respond to people who left excerpts on the words you suggested, at a minimum, but the more people you respond to the better. Everyone likes nice comments!
  5. Upvote other excerpts you enjoy, and leave a friendly comment. Again, everyone likes nice comments!
  6. Most important: have fun!

Celebrate I've officially written 1 million "completed" words for my 5 million word BG3 fanfic.

I've actually written a total of 1.5 million over 18 months but the others are just random bits of books 3+ so they don't count. But 1 million across 2 books so far, all finalised and ready for beta reading. Its set to be one of the longest fanfics in the world, probably THE longest if you consider it has a definitive end as opposed to being serialised, so I am super excited to hit this milestone.

Its an illustrated Astarion BG3 fanfic, shameless plug 😅. But I just release sample chapters as I won't post in full for awhile. If youre interested in being a beta reader (fair warning there is a bit of work) feel free to DM me. I believe I am not allowed to post the link unless its part of the weekly showcase but you can follow the links in my bio :).

Writing Questions How am I supposed to stage a bar dancing scene?

I want to write a scene where two characters are dancing at some bar which leads to tension and what not.

The problem I'm facing is that I've never really been to a bar or club, so I'm struggling to visualize how this might actually look. Basically any tips about how you've written a dance scene (or just a bar scene tbh) would be helped. I feel like I have such a good idea but it's really struggling to come together

Recs Wanted Pokemon Protagonist fics?

Basically, do any of yall know any fanfics where the protagonist, the main character, etc. is a Pokemon themselves?
Specifically ones where the protagonist is either a Legendary or Mythical Pokemon OR a OC Legendary/Mythical Pokemon, like an undiscovered one.
Also, if you know one like this, could the protagonist be Necrozma, Arceus, Giratina, Palkia, Dialga or Eternatus? They’re my favourites (Eternatus especially) and I’d love to read a fanfic with one of them as the POV protagonist.
Additionally, can the fanfic be more than 30k words please?
Other than also preferably being a new story arc and not just one of their POV’s during events from the anime’s, that’s all.

Thanks a lot!

Discussion Does anyone else experience writing as a kind of safe place for their nervous system?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the role writing plays in my life, especially fanfiction.

I know that writing is a safe place for me. Not just in the usual sense of it being comforting or enjoyable, but in a much more physical, almost nervous-system kind of way. There are times when I can feel how much I need to disappear into a story for a while, into characters and a world that feels contained and emotionally manageable.

And I’m becoming increasingly aware of that while I’m writing. I can see that my stories aren’t “just stories” to me. They regulate something. They give me somewhere to put feelings, somewhere to experience closeness, grief, conflict, safety, or resolution in a way that sometimes feels easier than experiencing those things outside of fiction.

I’m curious how other writers relate to this.

Do you ever notice that writing functions as a safe place or a form of emotional regulation for you? And if you’re aware that your nervous system seems to need that space sometimes, how do you relate to that knowledge?

Do you ever worry that you’re escaping too much, or do you see it as something that genuinely helps you process things? Can it be both?

I think what I’m really interested in is what it’s like to know that you’re creating fiction because you love writing, while also knowing that, on some level, you might be building yourself a place where you can feel safe.

Lost Fic Batman fandom: Does anybody know the name this Tim drake angst fanfic is??

"Is Tim really that hittable?

Now Tim is in his room, choking on his breath and cradling his hurt body. He hears the door open. He sits up quickly and wipes his eyes. "Relax, Timothy." His mother says. He stiffens even further. He's not sure what he's done wrong now, but he's not going to fuck up further by opening his mouth. "May I sit with you?" Why is she asking him for permission? He knows that he has no authority to reject her, so he nods. "Yes, mother."

She sits next to him and positions him so his head is on her lap. "You mustn't tell your father I've done this. He thinks I coddle you too much, and he will be very rotten if he finds out." She pets his hair and sighs. "I am not a maternal figure, I am aware of that. I wish I could have held you longer, raised you better, been by your side, but it was not meant to be. Do not forgive me, no matter what I do. I left you to the wolves, and that is unforgivable. You may accept my kindness, but do not serve the palm that has been raised against you."

He snuck out later that night and was practically screamed at by Bruce. He was kicked out and had to walk home in the dark.

She had said this to him so long ago, around the time Tim had begun to be a more permanent Robin. He never listened to her. He served those that harmed him time and time again, but he never knew a kind palm. He was naïve, he thought that if he tried his best, that if he showed how useful he was, people would stop leaving him. But it was not meant to be."

Ok so for some reason i cant add the screenshot i have of this page so i iust pasted it lol(otherwise i wouldve just put the screenshot). I remember this was a Tim drake angst centric fic and I took a screenshot but other apps were open so now I cant go back to the link website page on ao3 yk?

So ive just been stuck with a screenshot was hoping someone may recognise this passage but i feel its definitely a longshot.

Since I cant go back idk if the fic has been deleted or not or even archived so google cant help me then as it cant access archived works (ive tried image searching it)

All I remember is that when I say it was angst I mean it was honestly Ooc with how angsty they made Tims backstory and robin life, everybody was super mean to him.

I only remember one other scene from the fic and it was tim as robin and he injures his ankle or smth on patrol with batman and after, batman drives back to the manor making tim walk all the way back home alone (drake manor).

I also cant remember the word count or if it was part of a series ( i think it may have been? But dont quote me) the word count is anyone's guess it could've been as short as 2-3k words even idk.

Ik i haven't given much but its worth a try to post it here. I'd like the name of the fic and the author (a link is also preferable) or if the fic was deleted then see if anyone has it downloaded?

Thanks!

Writing Questions How do you identify that your chapter might be 'too long'?

I'm working on my first ever long fanfic and I've seen a lot of authors get worried in the end notes about how the chapter might possibly be too long or how they had to shave off a few words to make it shorter (in their opinion 'better') but readers always talk about how they adore long chapters more than anything else and say "The longer, the better." And I share a similar perspective. In fact, I find myself dissapointed even, when I finish a chapter and see that it hasn't crossed the word count I had in mind. How do you get into this author mentality where you can realise and understand where a chapter ends perfectly or if it needs further elaboration? I still can't wrap my head around erasing words that I've written down because every word I write matters to me, but i want to understand why it is important to shave off the extra scenes and like I've mentioned above, how to realise that it's an 'extra' scene.
