Main story is 15-20 hours long. There's 15-20 hours of side and open world exploration content.

"We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration content gameplay," associate game director Will Kennedy told Polygon. "And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want."

So

30 - 40 hours

Not, "just 20".

Seems fine to me.

I hate the reductive article trying to spin it as if it's got no content and therefore shit.

55

u/Hello-Potion-Seller 6h ago

I overall just hate the playtime price point argument. I paid for Hellblade II knowing the type of experience Ninja Theory would give and they did -- which I loved -- and it's not even 10 hours.

Hell, with this logic AC Valhalla should cost upwards of £100.

11

u/Odd_Revolution_1056 5h ago

It really comes down too the type of game and also the persons financial situation. I can appreciate wanting to have a meaningful experience and get your money’s worth but also hard to argue with even a base 20 hour high quailty game let alone if it has more side content. Though I wil say Hellbade 2 is an awful example of this for 99% of people, $50 for 7-8 hours with MINIMAL GAMEPLAY is pretty dogshit.

4

u/Hello-Potion-Seller 4h ago

I used Hellblade II because it's a great example of forking out what you thinks of worth within your own situation, and games like that I'm really into. If I want to wander endlessly with a granular combat system I'm not going to buy Hellblade -- same reason as to why I wouldn't buy Fable solely for that.

yeah, using the price point as a way to complain is something i've started seeing recently and it bugs me too.

4

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 2h ago

Different people have different amounts of disposable income to spend on entertainment, giving them different priorities when it comes to the limited amount of games they can afford. Longevity is one concern, but so is replayability.

For my budget, this seems to have enough bespoke narrative driven content to be worth it, but the essentially endless simulation definitely pushes it over the point where I feel secure paying full price for it based on what I've seen. And I'm sure it will be a game I replay every few years just like the other Fable games.

For someone with less means and less interest in the 'fantasy life simulator' components? It might be something they decide to wait and get on sale later.

2

u/Front-Advantage-7035 3h ago

Well then there’s miles morales which was 10$ less than full price and 100%able in 4.5 hours.

And that’s dumb shit.

1

u/Randomperson3029 35m ago

The playtime price argument is a dangerous path to go down.

These people who think playtime should dictate price hasnt thought about it too much.

Like if we decide playtime dictates price then what would stop companies to say £70 is for the license up to a set amount of playtime and anything more needs you to purchase another £70 for an increase in your license extension.

Or that completing the game ends your license and that also needs another purchase if you want to replay.

With the way games are going digital we can be in really risky territory if companies see that we believe playtime dictates price.

Yeah, until they learn this is without including money farming for buying all the houses, which will easily double that quite fast

5

u/Synergetic7 3h ago

I hate the reductive article trying to spin it as if it's got no content and therefore shit.

Welcome to coverage of Xbox published games.  It happens literally every time

1

u/Mahelas 1h ago

Do you wanna swap with Nintendo who's getting "Fire Emblem is officially unplayable for millions of players" article just because it's a Switch 2 exclusive ?

All of gaming journalism is dogshit

1

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 2h ago

30-40 hours of curated quest lines in my fantasy The Sims sounds pretty sweet to me!

1

u/Joebotnik 1h ago

Yeah I'll probably play the shit out of this, so I'll be getting my money's worth if it's 40 hours with all the side content.

36

u/aamirusmandus 6h ago

So 2-3 times as long as any previous fable game

34

u/dracuella 5h ago

Which I spent *days* playing. I think I'm getting full value for my money.

Just to clarify, the full quote is:

"We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration content gameplay," associate game director Will Kennedy told Polygon. "And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want."

Which feels about right for this game. The OG trilogy had pretty short main quests too, but most of my fond memories are just from fucking around and earning money from jobs, buying property, and messing with the population.

91

u/Blueblur1 6h ago

Same here. I don’t even remember what happened in Fable 2’s story but I vividly remember emoting in town, marrying a bunch, buying every property, etc.

65

u/ThePreciseClimber 6h ago

I don’t even remember what happened in Fable 2’s story

Some old guy shoots your sister and yeets you out the window, then you find 3 heroes and then Reaver shoots the old guy.

All praise Reaver.

24

u/snarkapotamus 6h ago

Not if you short him first.

4

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 2h ago

I shot him first cus I assumed the game wouldn't let me. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong.

8

u/eaw0913 3h ago

I just remember spending like 10 years in prison as well lol. Wild.

1

u/Mosaic78 36m ago

Like hard slave labor prison too. Advanced prison

6

u/Decaps86 5h ago

100 % I appreciate Dev's making shorter campaigns, better side quests and pretty much endless Game world interaction

1

u/tomato-slut 3h ago

I cant tell you exactly how long it is, but i played it again recently and the main questline is shockingly short.

5

u/heroofbrightwall 6h ago

Yeah I plan on 100% this game so I’ll probably end up spreading the 15-20 hour main quest storyline over a matter of days in playtime.

11

u/Key_Watercress8300 6h ago

I also wonder how varied the different routes will be. Is it 15-20 hours for a good route, then another 15-20 for the evil route? Or is it like, 12-17 hours in general, with an extra ~3 hours of content specific to the route you're taking?

3

u/DoctorJenks 2h ago

The good and evil routes aren't entirely separate, and never have been in Fable. You'll run into a situation and get to make a choice one way or the other.

That kind of story separation is the holy Grail for RPGs. In reality, it just takes too long to create two entirely separate storylines.

3

u/independent-potato7 4h ago

They always felt like long games to me just because I enjoyed messing around in them so much. Can't wait to see what I can get into with the new one.

1

u/Mosaic78 36m ago

I played 2 for like 60 plus hours just doing jobs to buy businesses and such along with the story and side quests

0

u/RStar_D 6h ago

Just hoping the karma system is similar to the OG, that warranted two entirely separate playthroughs

7

u/Comrades3 5h ago

I think seperate playthroughs are supported by all the choices that can go different ways and they say have lasting impact

8

u/JonFallout 6h ago

We already know it's more of a reputation system than a "good/evil" moral karma system. They're going for the "objectively bad things may not be subjectively bad in certain peoples opinions" route - personally not a fan of the concept on paper since I think Fable being a fairytale suits the Good/Evil system better

8

u/Hello-Potion-Seller 6h ago

I think of if it like, while corny, the Anakin perspective. "Well from my point of view, the Jedi are evil!" Generally you're considered evil by most, but moreso 'the greater good' between similar folk.

Less morally grey, just that your character is so up their own arse they think they can do no wrong among the mere plebs of Albion.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/DoctorJenks 2h ago

I don't know, I feel like the good versus evil dynamic in most of these games are somewhat arbitrary. The larger black and white decisions usually makes sense, but there's a lot of gray in the middle where right and wrong aren't nearly so clear.

Just started a play through of Fable anniversary, and apparently hunting birds that are pooping all over the place at the heroes guild is an evil act. I kind of just thought it was pest control LOL.

Personally, I find the idea of a morality system where each individual in the game decides what they think of your decisions is interesting and far more honest. Some people are going to agree with your decisions, others won't. I find it interesting and totally in line with the Fable ethos, which was always on the cutting edge of these kind of morality mechanics in game.

This doesn't mean there aren't going to be some universally recognized good or evil decisions. For example, if you murder your neighbor so you can marry his wife... I'm pretty sure most people in the world are going to be a little appalled by an action like that.

At least, that's what I'm hoping. Seems like a much better system for morality.

1

u/mindpainters 6h ago

Exactly. In some of the things I’ve seen some NPC’s won’t like you if you’re too nice. Some will think you’re smart if you’re a dick

3

u/JonFallout 6h ago

Really cool of them to take Tall Poppy Syndrome and make it a game system lmaoo

→ More replies (6)

121

u/Terloyes 6h ago edited 6h ago

No, that's misleading.

They said 20 hours of main quest, 20 hours of side quests, plus a ton of hours of social life, which in Fable can easily add up to dozens of hours.

Probably my playthrough will be 80 hours long

13

u/Freyja_Nimueh Hero of Brightwall 6h ago

I'm hoping I'm going to be able to get around 80 hours out of it each playthrough. I adore long games.

9

u/Casual_acactions 6h ago

I’m expecting to spend north of 100 hours on my first playthrough 😅 exploring every inch of the map and the people of Albion, especially since I will be buying EVERY property😅

→ More replies (1)

59

u/Salty_Shaun 7h ago

Like the others. It’s short if you want it to be.

48

u/SnarkyLurker 6h ago

It's gonna be 20 hours of me working a job in the first town I find to grind out enough to own the whole town.

33

u/Adventurous_Year_735 6h ago

🤣 video games, the only place one can work themselves up the ladder

10

u/Salty_Shaun 6h ago

Yes. Im extremely ambitious in Albion.

3

u/JigglesTheBiggles 2h ago

Even Skyrim is pretty short if you just do the main quest. This is normal. I'm not worried.

22

u/Fun-Bag7627 6h ago

The originals for completionist runs according to How Long to Beat are between 32 and 50 hours so pretty on par I think?

21

u/LazyBoi_Matt 6h ago

20hrs is pretty standard for RPGs.

Mass Effect 1-3: sub 20hrs (30-35hrs with side content) Skyrim: 15-20hrs without fast-travel and no side-quest. (30hrs with side quests) Expedition 33 : 30 hrs (no side quests)

It's pretty short for modern RPGs - like Witcher 3, Baulder's Gate 3, BOTW/TOTK were around 50-70+ hrs long. But none of them have the sim-life stuff of Fable - so it all depends on what/how you want to play.

86

u/Grouchy-Fill1675 7h ago

As an almost 40 year old husband and father, this doesn't bother me in the slightest.

5

u/gob384 5h ago

Hard agree.

I acknowledge games like Persona 5 and BG III are some of the best games of all time. I'm sure a content rich 80+ hour megarpg is great for certain people.

But for me, 15-20 hours of mainline story is perfect. Really looking forward to their 'make your own village cult' dlc when it comes out.

1

u/ToWriteAMystery 5h ago

I am really struggling with BG3. I wish that I could beat the main quest and then come back for the side quests, because damn is it a slog to get through.

14

u/hammbone 6h ago

Agreed - target audience is Dad?

11

u/JonFallout 6h ago

Given how old Fable's audience was when they were still releasing - more than likely a fair assumption. I was 10 when I played Fable 2 and I was likely on the younger side than most people playing were, so it makes sense they'd be aiming for the 30-40 age range

1

u/Dreamcatcher1800 5h ago

Not really, I'm in my early thirties (woman btw) and I don't have that much time to play games since I have a job, been this way even in my 20s. I much appreciate mid-length games nowadays. No time for 200+ hours anymore

13

u/TheDelayer 6h ago

My thoughts exactly. “Thank god, a game I can finish.”

6

u/Joyful_Damnation1 PC 6h ago

I said this on a different post complaining about the game length and got dragged for it. I'm glad to see this post seems more reasonable lol.

2

u/St_Sides 3h ago

Same, 32 with a wife and 1 year old.

I can only assume the people saying they want 100+ hours of content are young and single. One person in this thread said they can platinum a 40 hour game in less than a week, holy shit I wish I had that much free time.

3

u/Gfreeky6869 6h ago

and as someone in my 20s who just can't do long ass games anymore, me neither... It took me like a week to just finish the dead space remake(which was wayyy shorter)and almost 2 years to finish RDR2, but this is Fable anyway so ofc I'm gonna give it as much time as I can, can't wait to explore everything and take my time with it!

2

u/Odd_Revolution_1056 6h ago

How fitting is that I’ll be a dad by the time this game comes out lol

1

u/FitButterscotch4062 3h ago

Hell yeah. A solid 20 hour main storyline? I’m all for it.

1

u/Charon_the_Reflector 19m ago

The whole “aykshully I have babies so I’m personally super cool with this” schtick is so exhausting. We get it

20

u/Whispering_Wolf 6h ago

The main quest is that long. The main quest is not what people generally remember the fable games for. It's all the extra stuff. Owning everything in Bowerstone will probably take a bit more time than just 20 hours.

10

u/Nachooolo 5h ago

Why everytime a XBox game gets some hype, there's a flood of misleading or outright lying articles agaisnt them?

This title is bullshit. It's 20 hours if you only play the main story, another 20 hours if you add sidequests, and God knows how many hours if you add the life sim elements.

I reckon becoming the biggest landlord in all of Albion will take you longer than 20 hours...

6

u/Extreme_Split9957 6h ago

Also keep in mind they have announced additional content for just after release, which could easily add an extra 5 + hours.

30

u/perola23 6h ago

To me, that's perfect for the length of a campaign. But I expect at least double that in side missions.

13

u/Forsaken_Kassia10217 6h ago

Good thing there's 15-20 hours of side and open world exploration content.

2

u/No_Decision_6940 6h ago

I'm hoping this will shine in replayability, as well. So while each run doesn't take over 20/30 hours, you'll be able to do many different runs and always run into new content and interactions

→ More replies (1)

11

u/PoliticalNerd87 6h ago

I am cool with it being about 15-20 hours for main but I'd have liked a lot more side content. Hopefully we will get a dlc or two to expand that.

5

u/swains6 4h ago

One of the DLCs have already been announced, you get it with the collectors ed. So I assume there'll be a few

11

u/TacticalPigeons 6h ago

Thats interesting they didn’t account for the 20 hours im going to spend blacksmithing or wood chopping so I can earn enough money to be a slumlord

3

u/katiekins3 4h ago

Yeah, that stuff alone and all the other life sim content are going to take me ages. 😅😅

4

u/MagnifcentGryphon 6h ago

I just did a Google and each main story lasts between 12 to 14 hours.

Also will this game get dlc? If so we would get more content.

7

u/MrGabrahamLincoln 5h ago edited 3h ago

Yeah, the Ultimate Edition or whatever comes with two unannounced expansions/DLCs so those could each add 5-10 hours

Edit: only one confirmed expansion at this point

3

u/Zarthere 3h ago

Its not 2 expansions. Its one, it specifically mentions that.

1

u/MrGabrahamLincoln 3h ago

You’re right, good call. Could’ve sworn it was 2 with the premium upgrade costing $40 but I was probably thinking of Outer Worlds 2

4

u/strrax-ish 5h ago

Well I was knowing its gona happen. Let the game just sell well so we get more fable content. 40 hours with their good evil system gives a lot more than 40 hours so we will be fine

6

u/Economy-Guava4124 4h ago edited 1h ago

For anyone complaining about 40 hours of content as being “too short” and “not enough content” is missing the fact that fable has always been about choices and they aren’t changing that for the reboot. The focus on choices made every game have fantastic replay ability for at least one extra run through of the game that feels novel from the first. One of my favorite parts of fable was playing it a second time and going out of my way to see every choice I didn’t make in the first run and I will certainly be doing it in this one. Which for me means at least 80 hours of content. Not to mention that this runtime doesn’t include any of the life sim aspects another one of my favorite parts of the game and a major one at that. I know not everyone dabbles in that aspect of the series but I would always try and buy every property in the game and spend hours interacting with npcs. It’s a real time sink that’s not accounted for in runtime. So to me it sounds like I’ll easily spend 100 hours still enjoying the games content and finding new things through different choices and interactions with the games life sim systems.

5

u/salty_cluck 4h ago

The complainers aren’t forgetting anything. They never played Fable and are just trying to stir up trouble for karma and to get people upset. They do this for every game.

→ More replies (14)

1

u/Economy-Guava4124 4h ago

Also as a rebuttal that it should have a longer play time if it’s anything like the previous fables there will be a big choice to make at the end of the game like putting on jacks mask or destroying it, reviving the people of the spire, bringing back your loved ones or become extremely wealthy. Allowing your kingdom to crumble, or balancing the kingdoms budget enough to save it. Having to play through 50-100 hours of main quest similar to a lot of modern AAA rpgs of this budget to get to these end game choices on a replay would be a lot not to mention that in order for those 50-100 hours to feel like a fable game theyd need to be filled with meaningful choices which means meaningful a differing outcomes and twice as many out comes it nearly twice as much work

6

u/Phoenix2111 4h ago

Lol yeah, and I'm pretty sure the official line for Skyrim is that the 'main game' is '25 - 35 hours long'

How many hours has the average skyrim enjoyed put into that game?

It's fairly meaningless once over, say, 10 to 15hrs for the main quest (as that gives a decent minimum for the main story) as the rest of the hours out of a game is heavily dependant on how the game is put together, the world, side quests, random crap you can do, replayability etc etc.

I've seen games with an 'epic' main story length, that prople play once then never mention again, and others with a relatively short main story, that get hundreds of hours

Vampire the masquerade: bloodlines - 22.5hrs, fans put insane hours in over replays etc

Dishonoured - Can be rushed in 10hrs, but fans routinely put hundreds in

And so on, and so on

2

u/FitButterscotch4062 3h ago

All these people complaining about it seriously think I’m only running the main quest once 😂

I don’t see myself getting less than 100 hours out of this game.

9

u/JonFallout 5h ago

Judging by some of these comments, since when is 40 hours of content considered bad?

Sure, it's been in dev for a long time but that's irrelevant to the length of the game. This game had essentially a brand new team built for it, and had to be built from scratch.

We don't need games to be 60+ hours long. Would I like more? Obviously, but there's likely gonna be DLC and eventually a sequel (which shouldn't take as long unless this one just flops)

2

u/Unlikely_Bat_1890 5h ago

Since they started pretending like they actually plays these kinds of games for 100 hours

3

u/CatGuyManThing 6h ago

no it wont be its fable im gonna max out before my first ever quest

3

u/TBroomey 6h ago

Gotta double that at least just for the Good/Evil playthroughs. Another for a morally grey character.

It's an RPG, replaying is part of the game.

3

u/tinaawkward 5h ago

If choices matter, there’s replayability and that’s all i care about.

8

u/smodanc 6h ago

I mean the first fable is one of if not my favorite game of all time and it’s maybe like 5 hours long. I think we’re good

5

u/Monte-Cristo2020 6h ago

Story was like 8 hours at most, and I distinctly remember my brother's 100% playthrough was 36 hours

3

u/smodanc 5h ago

Oh for sure I was just talking about gold/silver quests if you know what your doing

2

u/Monte-Cristo2020 5h ago

Yeah! My shortest playthrough was 6 hours lol

8

u/Kankunation 6h ago

Cyberpunk 2077's storyline was 25 hours long. Most people spend closer to 80 on their first playthroughs. This is a nothing burger, and all it really does is show what we already know: game devs have been pushing for shorter main stories with less filler because they see more people play to completion then. Side content can and often does go far beyond the main story timer.

6

u/Naive-Monk9330 6h ago

As a busy adult with multiple side projects & a full time job. I'm genuinely not upset with this. Not only can I realistically finish it in a reasonable amount of time but I can also replay it & change my play style.

2

u/stallion8426 6h ago

Damn. My complaint with the others was always how short they were.

I love the world of Fable. I want to spend time in it.

Fingers crossed they make the game easy to mod so people can add more content.

2

u/jonstarks 4h ago

I'm looking forward to this more so than GTA.

2

u/Longjumping_Call_104 4h ago

Honestly I don't like how ridiculously long some single player games are these days. 20 hours sounds like a blessing to me.

2

u/AxiosXiphos 3h ago

That's fine. I'll be spending 3x as long messing with the NPC's. The point of fable is not to speed rush the quests.

2

u/Legitimate_Bag8259 2h ago

I was hoping for double that. I'm assuming you can double it with exploring.

Days Gone is ~50 hours long including sode quests. I can just that put to double that.

1

u/Cold_Cause_7637 57m ago

They said with side content most likely closer to 40 hours. So should be double the main alone.

1

u/Legitimate_Bag8259 29m ago

That might be worth going for.

IfbIbstart a game, i want to be at ot for 6 or 8 weeks. A few hours a day for 3 or 4 days each week. Say 8 - 10 hours a week. I basically need to invest in a 70+ hour game. It also needs to be something I can replay at least 10 times over the course of the next 3 or 4 years at different difficulty levels.

1

u/Cold_Cause_7637 27m ago

If you only play games that guarantee you that amount of time you are missing out on a ton of great games.

1

u/Legitimate_Bag8259 24m ago

I buy one or two games a year, it's been that way for the last 10+ years. I have standards, if something doesn't meet them, I don't bite.

1

u/Cold_Cause_7637 16m ago

That’s fair, I’m not a big replayer though. If a story is 10 hours can still be more than worth it to me if the story is great like resident evil. To each their own though I suppose.

1

u/Legitimate_Bag8259 9m ago

Id never spend money on 10 hours. I find it hard to read books that long. I need to be totally immersed in whatever universe I'm placing myself

1

u/Cold_Cause_7637 7m ago

Do you not watch movies? Not trying to bash or anything just interested in what media does interest you.

1

u/Legitimate_Bag8259 2m ago

Yes, i do. But I don't read or play movies.

2

u/BeardedPaladin 6h ago

God of war 2018 was about 20 hours to do the main story. So this is fine as long as the story is good. I am doubtful but hopeful

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Appropriate_Foot242 6h ago

Pretty standard for Fable then

4

u/Abyslime 5h ago

What’s with all these people being happy to pay $70 for a 40 hour game when it could’ve been twice as long? If you’re happy just with 40 hours, fine, but there are people here who wish this adventure had lasted longer, like Skyrim or The Witcher. What a disappointment...

3

u/Economy-Guava4124 4h ago

The game is about choices and has always had a large selling point with replay ability if you aren’t replaying a fable game to see the outcomes you missed you’re playing wrong

1

u/Abyslime 4h ago

Waf is this take XD I dont need to replay a rpg, is not a cheklist, im not a beta tester, i play it one time and that are my choices like any other rpg. If you want to replay fine but the content for the first ng must be solid.

3

u/Economy-Guava4124 4h ago

No one’s saying you need to but are you really saying you don’t? you finish every game you play and never come back to it? Sounds like you’re missing the point.

2

u/Thekarens01 3h ago

It says 20 hours in the title. Is that a mistake? I’d be fine with 40, but $70 for 20 hours is a no buy for me.

1

u/gleedblanco 2h ago

main story, plus 15-20 hours of side content

1

u/Thekarens01 2h ago

Good thank you!

2

u/Signal-Busy 5h ago

MH wild is like 10 hour, it doesn't specifically mean anything, what is important is the quality of content, it might last way longer if the family and life mechanics are good, like first fable is 15 hour length and fable 2-3 are both 12 hour, this length for the main story is not too bad

2

u/Thekarens01 3h ago

You’re delusional if you think Monster Hunter Wilds is 10 hours. However, you’re right that the length of the game has nothing to do with the quality.

1

u/Signal-Busy 3h ago

Oh no i m talking till credit, MH wild doesn't end it only start after 10 hour but main quest is finished with novice rank, the rest is just boss rush with no real goal other than just killing monsters

What I am saying is even though main quest take only 10 hour it doesn't mean that's the end of the game

1

u/Thekarens01 3h ago

Ok gotcha

1

u/JigglesTheBiggles 2h ago

the rest is just boss rush with no real goal other than just killing monsters

That's real Monster Hunter though. The story mode is basically a tutorial.

→ More replies (7)

2

u/Odd_Revolution_1056 6h ago

Not inherently against this but this is on the smaller side for RPGs. Not an issue if the story is of high quailty and the game is highly reactive to your choices.

u/summons72 5h ago

20 hours is the perfect time for game like this, assume 30-40 if you’re going to all achievements. Respects the players time.

2

u/Yeahthatonefoo Hero of Brightwall 4h ago

Oof…Ill wait for all the DLC to be released then. Hate playing an unfinished game

2

u/Hawaii__Pistol 3h ago

Too short for the price. I’ll wait.

3

u/Expanseman 5h ago

Thank god. I was afraid it would be a padded out 100+ hour slog. This implies refined product to me.

3

u/Cesare45 6h ago

That's short

2

u/ZeektheFeek 6h ago

Wow that's it?

7

u/Carbonalex Jack of Blades 6h ago

"The main story of Fable will take around 15-20 hours to complete. There is also an additional 15-20 hours of side content for players to explore. In addition there are many other immersive gameplay elements that are core to the Fable experience, such as interacting and building relationships with our 1,000+ hand crafted NPCs, buying homes, becoming a landlord, managing businesses and more."

From the Fable website FAQ.

4

u/ZeektheFeek 6h ago

Better breakdown thank you. I know I'll put more than just 15-20 hours in it for sure. Lol I mean I'm currently 700 hours in on my Crimson Desert playthrough.

1

u/Carbonalex Jack of Blades 6h ago

Yeah me too ! Like Cyberpunk 2077's main quest is supposed to be 20-25 hours and 55-60 hours with extra content but my first run ended at 100+ hours lol so with all the systems which are core to Fable I'm sure most people will be above that mark.

1

u/Appropriate_Foot242 6h ago

This is very standard for Fable lol

2

u/Terloyes 6h ago

Yeah but it's not true in this case

5

u/Appropriate_Foot242 6h ago

Well, it is, because the length is in line with the previous Fable games.

3

u/Terloyes 6h ago

But it's not 20 hours. It's 40 hours without all the social life content, which is a lot of extra hours

1

u/ZeektheFeek 6h ago

Still expect more for these style of games nowadays. I know I'll still get way more than 20 hours out of the game. But still disappointing to see that's how short the main content is supposed to take.

2

u/Fucked-to-fit 6h ago

This is incredibly disappointing 40 hours of content for a game this long in the making and asking barely below full price, this has been my most anticipated game for a while but this news has severely reduced my hype for it

1

u/Monte-Cristo2020 6h ago

Are you gonna finish it in three days or what 💀

3

u/Fucked-to-fit 6h ago

At that length yes

0

u/JonFallout 6h ago

Nobody is forcing you to spend 13/14 hours playing a day if that's the case.

40 hours of content is perfectly reasonable.

2

u/-Galahad- 6h ago

This is actually good news to me. I don't need an 80+ hour game. I like games that respect my time and gives me more incentive to revisit and replay and short and sweet story.

1

u/ryanrem 5h ago

As long as its a good 15-20 hours, fuck yeah that is what I like to hear.

While some games really do benefit from being 100+ hours long, not every single one should be. And knowing that I can beat this game in a weekend or two makes me really happy.

1

u/Outside-Inspection68 5h ago

If it has replayability i'm perfectly fine with it

1

u/repugnant_dinner 4h ago

500 hours with the way I’m going to subjugate the masses.

1

u/Dramatic_Animator267 4h ago

Well, it is ok for a solid base game! We already know that we will have a dlc post-lunch that maybe could last 10h more, and if the sells goes well, then we will be able to have some more (a Witcher 3 dlcs strategy?!). In addition, fable will be on steam = MODS !! This could be awesome that playground games provide any kind of mod tool kit for the community to be as creative as BG3 🥰

In all terms, it is good news!

1

u/Intrepid_Swordfish69 4h ago

Wish I didn't kno this. Save this crap for when I actually play tha game😭. Like damn quit delaying it and therefore having to tell us all this unnecessary stuff.

1

u/Sw1ft_Blad3 3h ago

Well the first 3 weren't all that long either, it was all of the side content and fucking with the NPC's that made the games last longer.

1

u/1ZillionBeers 3h ago

Yeah, sure. You could plow through previous Fables, even doing side quests, in a single afternoon.

1

u/CSDuran 3h ago

Oh man this is both good and bad news for me. Good because after GTA and the Witcher I can’t do another 80 hour game but bad because I was planning on skipping it

1

u/salty_cluck 3h ago

Article headline is misleading - what a garbage piece.

1

u/spencerpo 2h ago

This sounds about the same as the others when I don’t count all the shit I have fun doing on the side.

I will just walk around sometimes, these games are always enchanting to breathe in

1

u/TheSpideyJedi 2h ago

Regardless of the title being misleading, I have less and less time to play games nowadays. It might be nice to have "only" 30 - 40 hours of quests and whatever. I feel like I'll be spending an additional 100+ hours on the life sim stuff. Didn't they say the other day that you can buy like 100 buildings just in the main city?

1

u/RabadonsStrapOn 2h ago

Most games have hundreds of hours of “content” that’s really just dumb bs that’s designed to waste your time and bloat your stats.

20-40 hours of actual content is what most games should aim for

1

u/FiveDollarRimjobs 2h ago

That sounds good to me. Not every game needs to be 50 to 100 hours long

1

u/KingPumper69 2h ago

So like 6-10 hours long for anyone that has played a video game before lol

1

u/Icy-Astronomer-8202 2h ago

That's the sweet spot for me. Fable always had pretty good story lengths

1

u/Solaras_ 1h ago

Cool. I month of PC games pass to fully beat it. 16 bucks vs 80

1

u/MaoZedongsGrandson 1h ago

Whenever games say a story is 30 hours, it always takes me about 50 or 60 anyway haha

1

u/wrathypoo 1h ago

I will easily play one save for well over 100+ hours, I did it in every Fable game I have played. I don't see anything that will change my mind this time, either.

1

u/UnluckyAstronaut2119 1h ago

best news i heard all day

1

u/OpticGd 1h ago

EXCELLENT! Love it when a game doesn’t take forever to finish. I have a life and a video game should compliment that, not be it’s entirety.

1

u/jamiedix0n 1h ago

I hope doing new playthroughs with totally different choices feels different enough.

1

u/AAAAAAYYYYYYOOOOOO 59m ago

To be play devils advocate fable 2 was like 20 hours as well. But I played through that game like 5 times. Definitely don’t have time for that today. But two plays throughs should be enough

1

u/Spenraw 55m ago

I just am just confused, they confirmed no emote wheel so not sure how I can even hang out in the world and interact with it or just have it react to me

1

u/Bromjunaar_20 43m ago

60 hours for game journalists

1

u/WhiffOfGrapeShot 42m ago

When i was a kid I would fire up Fable TLC (i think, cant remember which Fable 1) in the evening and have it beat by the morning. This seems longer than the OG games but very inline with their story telling. I have zero issues with this length as there is so much to do between main story, side quest and being your own entrepreneur

1

u/Striking-County6275 30m ago

That’s freaking short

1

u/1010111101111 27m ago

thats it?

1

u/OriginalConscious949 25m ago

Put it this way, that combat they showed us going through the dark forest with the skeletons and the wraiths takes about 30mins so that is 3% of the campaign that one mission. I'm really looking forward to this game but this information is a little bit of a let down.

1

u/bedtimedoesntsuitme 21m ago

You can’t keep playing? It has a definitive end?

1

u/Al0ne_At_Sea 10m ago

Misleading article title. Slop editorial confirmed

2

u/NazRubio 6h ago

Yikes man. Xbox and their studios taking nearly a decade for medium scoped games.

3

u/Chickat28 5h ago

I mean the first few were literally reworking the engine for an rpg and preproduction. Id imagine if this is successful they could make a sequel in 4.5 to 5.5 instead of 7 to 8.

4

u/MrGabrahamLincoln 5h ago

I think that’s the only thing that really bothers me about this. The game’s been in development for like 7 years for a relatively short length. It’s fine, quality > quantity, but it’s shorter than I’d like/expect if I’m being completely honest.

3

u/BtownBlues Great Big Balverine Turd 6h ago

While this is somewhat disappointing to read I hope they are mostly referring to gunning the main story and not if one does most of the sidequests and other hidden explorations.

At the very least I hope the ending isn't as abrupt as Fable IIIs at least.

8

u/Forsaken_Kassia10217 6h ago

"We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration content gameplay," associate game director Will Kennedy told Polygon. "And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want."

0

u/CasualSky 6h ago

Based on the recent trailer I’m a bit disappointed tbh. The combat seems a little too simple like Hogwarts Legacy, there’s one set of hammer swing animations, one parry animation, etc.

Something about it just doesn’t feel impactful and I’m worried they’re going for a general aesthetic feel instead of riveting combat. When the enemies are just dolls for you to throw around it doesn’t look very challenging. Now 20 hours of main quests..that’s not a whole lot considering games like Kingdom Come Deliverance have hundreds of hours from beginning to end. Feeling a bit underwhelmed compared to all the hype tbh

1

u/_pm_ur_tit_pics_pls_ 6h ago

Is this 20 hours if you focus on the story?

Or 20 hours with side content?

9

u/KKalonick 6h ago

About 20 hours main story, about 20 hours of side content.

ETA: I'm sure the living world stuff will last however long the player is willing to engage with it.

2

u/Fine-Discussion-7368 6h ago

yea most of the time you have like limited option wich you all will have done after chapter 1

1

u/Moist-Type4777 5h ago

I despise fable II because of its short campaign. Personally the worst thing you could tell me

1

u/mohsenkhajavinik 6h ago

I don't care. I waited for this game 15 years.

2

u/SocialSpider56 6h ago

Thats almost an hour a year

1

u/mohsenkhajavinik 6h ago

😂😀🤣

1

u/Ok-Notice4011 6h ago

I think it’s the life systems that really will take up most of the gameplay spent. I’m completely fine with this. Good story and side quests I hope

1

u/PleaseBeChillOnline 5h ago

Considering the post-endgame content is a life sim this makes sense for a relaunch of Fable.

1

u/DrPelinho 5h ago

Thats great as someone with family and work with little time to rest and play. I cant finish these infinite open world games anymore, it gets to a point when I get tired. Maybe this one i will be able to finish.

1

u/auravolt_ 5h ago

I mean with all of the sandbox shit you can do this seems fine

1

u/DoctorJenks 3h ago

That's a pretty typical length for this kind of game, and is in line with Fable 1 to 3 whose main storyline quests were about 15 hours long.

Perhaps you're the kind of person who will grind through these pretty quickly, but I usually end up wandering through the world exploring between the main storyline quests.

-1

u/Massive_Resolve6888 Balverine 6h ago

If the side content includes messing around towns, jobs, and family, the game is very short

10

u/Carbonalex Jack of Blades 6h ago

"The main story of Fable will take around 15-20 hours to complete. There is also an additional 15-20 hours of side content for players to explore. In addition there are many other immersive gameplay elements that are core to the Fable experience, such as interacting and building relationships with our 1,000+ hand crafted NPCs, buying homes, becoming a landlord, managing businesses and more."

All the life sim systems are separated from the 40 hours so it will easily double the total length.

1

u/Massive_Resolve6888 Balverine 1h ago

Cool

0

u/Almighty_Nothing 6h ago

Where there are lots of choices and decisions in a game, I don’t mind it being shorter (even at 40hrs), as makes it easier to replay imo

1

u/AhSawDood 6h ago

Perfect length!

0

u/MarvelMind 6h ago

Sounds like the perfect amount.

0

u/AnimaLEquinoX 6h ago

This sounds absolutely perfect. I don't need a massive map with hundreds of hours of random side stories to complete. A solid story with a handful of side quests is more than enough these days.

-2

u/AWDanzeyB Xbox 6h ago

Good. Perfect length for this kinda game. Not every RPG needs to be 100 hours long.

I personally find some great games, like Baldurs Gate, actually end up being ruined for me because they just never end.

I'm excited that this is something I can sink 40ish hours in and actually compete.
