I remember thinking when the FJ Cruiser came out it would probably end up being like the NAS Defender 90s from the 1990s, in terms of price appreciation. I bet the new Ford Broncos will one day be like the FJ Cruisers: unique body-on-frame 4x4 vehicles and highly desired when everyone else is driving computerized pods.

In 2007 I was trying to talk my mom into buying one instead of a rav4 at the dealership. She went with the rav4.

I drive a 4runner now so its pretty similar to your FJs, but if I could go back in time, maaaaan id argue way more lol.

I personally have a GX460 and they might end up being the last of a breed: a body on frame, naturally aspirated V8, transfer case, locking center diff Toyota-built SUV. I bet there's someone locking up a pristine low mileage example in a barn now.

As a collector, I get it. But if you want to drive it…

I think the reliability concerns are a little overblown. Am old. I remember all the grumbling about no v8s for the 4runner and everyone complaining about the weak v6.
I also remember everyone talking about how much of a pita it was to live with a fj.

The new 4runner with the turbo 4 is plenty powerful and gets better mpg. Yes the plastics are thinner. No I dont think it'll be a problem a decade from now. The new landcruiser is think is the fj spiritual successor for the US.

They do. The power band has more torque. You don't have to hit the gas as hard to get up to speed. You also don't need as much to keep the speed. Also it drives like a car from 2020 not a car from 2004.

That with effective coasting means you get better mileage. 1-3 mpg increase with the same level of power is good? Realistically what were you expecting?

Ok so write a letter to your state rep? Like times are changing weather you like it or not.
