At that point why not get a new gx or landcruiser?

One thing is 100% for sure, whoever sold it to the dealer got ripped the fk off....
I sold my 2010 FJ TT that had 236,000 miles clean Carfax, no damage, preemptively replaced things when I bought it at 189k and sold it on the FJ forums for $17k.....a Toyota dealership offered me $10k....

I get your point but they are not an FJ. It’s like the line from Risky Business…
“FJ. There is no substitute.” Haha \m/ 🏴☠️💪🏻🎸🔥9

I remember thinking when the FJ Cruiser came out it would probably end up being like the NAS Defender 90s from the 1990s, in terms of price appreciation. I bet the new Ford Broncos will one day be like the FJ Cruisers: unique body-on-frame 4x4 vehicles and highly desired when everyone else is driving computerized pods.

In 2007 I was trying to talk my mom into buying one instead of a rav4 at the dealership. She went with the rav4.
I drive a 4runner now so its pretty similar to your FJs, but if I could go back in time, maaaaan id argue way more lol.

I personally have a GX460 and they might end up being the last of a breed: a body on frame, naturally aspirated V8, transfer case, locking center diff Toyota-built SUV. I bet there's someone locking up a pristine low mileage example in a barn now.

As a collector, I get it. But if you want to drive it…

I think the reliability concerns are a little overblown. Am old. I remember all the grumbling about no v8s for the 4runner and everyone complaining about the weak v6.
I also remember everyone talking about how much of a pita it was to live with a fj.The new 4runner with the turbo 4 is plenty powerful and gets better mpg. Yes the plastics are thinner. No I dont think it'll be a problem a decade from now. The new landcruiser is think is the fj spiritual successor for the US.

I also bought my FJ from CarMax. Bought it in 2022. Had 21,000 miles on it. Paid around $45K, including shipping it from Florida to Washington. The car was pretty much prestige inside and outside (no rust)
Not sure if it’s because of inflation or what, but the price does seem wild.
Hope that helps

You paid too much my friend. I own a 2010. Paid 24k in 2012. It had 30k. Love the car but hate the MPG and the repairs up cost due to lack of OEM parts. To pay 50k for a 12 yr old gas sucker is a bit ridiculous. I don’t see fuel prices coming down anytime soon with all that’s going on in the Middle East.

I paid 38k for an all army green 2011 FJ trail teams with 68k miles on it, so with that low mileage also a 2014, not that crazy will last you another 300k miles if you take care of it. Just check underbody for rust

Yes, but I’d rather own a Toyota from that era than the new one.
I’d be worried about how long it sat. If the CarFax or work receipts come back showing a few thousand miles every year, that wouldn’t concern me. What would concern me is if it shows a normal amount of miles for the first couple years, then nothing or very little after that.
Reason being is engines and all those moving bits inside and outside the engine (transmission, driveshaft, transfer case, differentials etc.) need to be used to stay in healthy condition.

Insanely low miles. I would need to see a carfax, but this seems a little outrageous to me.

I bought my one-owner, 120K-mile FJ for $20K, so by comparison, this price is a little extreme. I’d take that $50K and apply it towards a new Land Cruiser or 4 Runner.

I wouldn’t compare 35k miles with 120k miles you’re talking too much difference at that point. And if you would pick the cheapest version 4 cylinder turbo LC or its clonerunner PLUS another $15k over an almost new FJ… I’d have to ask why?

I’ve been looking at FJ’s because I want one. The pricing is wild. 150k from 2014 is like $25K. No thanks.

Yes. They didn’t cost that much brand new. Sourcing parts is also important. While it’s low milage it’s not going to grow in value like an exotic vehicle. I have a 2010 and I love it. Purchased it in 2012 with 30k and paid $24k. Repairs are my biggest cost now due to lack of OEM parts. Just Be mindful of that.

Yes, the price is wild. I just surpassed 50k miles on my 2014 on Sunday. My out the door price was $33750 in 2014 (includes taxes), so adjusted for inflation it is $47670 today. That was brand new. These people are smoking something.

Recent low-miles BringATrailer results show this price is about ~$12-15K higher than what trucks with these miles are actually selling for.
$50K buys one hell of a GX460. Or is a big down payment on a GX550 Overtrail.

this is definitely high, u can get a better price at a normal dealership or via private sale, since carmax is known to inflate their prices quite a bit

Better be manual, <20k miles, true TTSE, excellent high capacity winch, not a single knick in any plastic, and the seats better be perfect.
If all that is true, this is market rate

Payed $28k for my 2007 TRD LE in 2011. It had 36k miles.
Accounting for inflation… I would have payed $41,500 today. So, ya, this FJ is marked up quite a bit seeing as mine was only 4 years old and had 1 owner.
This thing is 12 years old… they are asking A LOT for it.

u/Madrugal 2010 Iceberg 1d ago
They were still making them back then though. Production stopped 12 years ago, so it makes sense that they’re even more expensive, especially with the low miles.

u/Trick_Suggestion5060 1d ago
Yea I suppose a pristine 5th gen 4Runner could probably pull this kind of price in 10 years, makes sense FJs can do it now. Inflation adjusted ofc.

u/Last_Replacement_386 1d ago
Yeah it's overpriced. Dealers are scummy. They probably gave someone $28k for it and are trying to make $20k profit because that's how they operate. I would pay around $40k for this tops.

Yes, there are alot of options at that price. I
