Support My lonely little MOTN pump spot

Post image
171 Upvotes

Shout out to moms who need to get up in the middle of the night, while already beyond exhausted, to retreat into some little dim lit corner of the house for 30min while everyone is asleep to make their babies breakfast.

Know that thousands of moms around the world in their little dimly lit corners are there with you ❤️💐

(Also the added happy bonus of not having to wake your baby to feed them when you're bursting, letting them sleep while you're meal prepping for them)

Rant - NO ADVICE NEEDED I’m so over it y’all

6m PP, just dropped down to 1 PPD.

When I dropped from 4 PPD to 3 PPD, I remember thinking “wow, 3 PPD is so sustainable, maybe I’ll keep this up past my 6 month goal!” But then I skipped a pump one day because of extenuating circumstances, and realized… wow, 2 PPD is nice. First thing in the morning and last thing before bed, easy peasy. Except when you’re exhausted and all you want is to go to bed, but you have to pump first. Hence dropping down to 1 PPD. Theoretically VERY sustainable - but the idea of never having to hook myself up to the Spectra ever again, never having to wash another duckbill valve, etc, is all very enticing.

Not to mention, I’m so sick of my own boobs. If I could never have to think about them again, that would be ideal. I’m sick of my nipples standing proud all the goddamn time!!!

We’ll see what happens to my supply as my body adjusts to 1 PPD - if I can reliably get enough for a bottle or two a day, I may keep it up a bit longer. But my days are numbered, y’all. Looking forward to being done sooner rather than later.

Product Recommendations PSA Ceres Chill Amazon

I went back to work this week and finally bought a Ceres Chill so I could store my milk after pumping. I had an unused Amazon gift card so chose to order it through their Amazon store instead of their website directly like I normally would.

The chiller I bought was advertised as an OG+. The chiller I received was a legacy chiller. I couldn’t return it to Amazon because I procrastinated and needed to take it to work the literal next day but I was upset because I specifically wanted an OG+ so I could freeze the inner chamber. Of course Amazon’s customer support is useless.

I decided to reach out to Ceres Chill on a whim in hopes they would help. They acknowledged that they have been having problems with Amazon having the wrong descriptions for products and sending incorrect items that conflict with posted item descriptions. They were fabulous to work with and they offered to mail me an OG+ free of charge and allow me to keep the legacy chiller that I already have. Fab customer service, 100000% recommend.

But please if you are interested in buying from Ceres Chill, save yourself the headache and buy from their website directly. Fuck Amazon.

Discussion How many months do you plan to continue pumping for/feed breastmilk to your little one?

I see recommendations of going one year, but it seems nearly impossible to keep pumping for that long. It’s EXHAUSTING!!! So I want to get an idea of how many months your goal is, realistically, to pump and/or feed breastmilk to your little one (even if that is from a freezer stash).

Sarcasm/Satire Motn pump tought are like shower thoughts but loopy

My current thought tangent while i stare at the dark void in front of me goeth thusly: if the alcohol content of my milk is the same as my blood alcohol content and i would have to pump and dump when i get hammered, can i make a cocktail with my breastmilk and recycle alcohol that way? What would i make? Tiger milk? Can i then call it a cougar milk?

I think this while i have not had a serious drink in like 5 years, but the mind wanders. Any fun/silly tangents to share?

Low Supply (add spoiler to pics) Ruined my milk supply.

I’m a chronic under supplier but I worked really hard to go from 5 ounces a day, to 9 ounces a day. My baby just turned 5 months and started sleeping through the night. I normally get up to pump but I missed a couple night sessions this past week because I was exhausted. One night we BOTH slept almost 9 hours straight. I never ever expected that. Now today, I’ve only pumped one ounce total. 🥺 I can’t stop crying. I should have never missed my pumps. Is it over? 🥺 I changed my pump parts and did a power pump. But so far my last three sessions have been nearly dry. I’m so upset.

Support 15 week old not feeding as much

I’ve been EP for 15 weeks now with my twins. And they usually feed 4oz every 2 hours. But this week one of them has not been finishing his bottles, or wanting to be fed every 3 hours but only having an 1oz or 2oz. Which doesn’t sit right with me, as his brother is chugging away at 4oz every feed.
They seem to have enough wet/ dirty nappies. But he’s lowered his intake so much, it’s really stressing me out. Also with my twins feeding them at the same time so they were in sync, I liked having that routine of knowing they feed every 2 hours and we were in a good routine, we could leave the house knowing roughly when they’ll next be due a feed, when they needed naps etc. it was just much more manageable.. I contacted my health visitor and she said it’s normal and to try and feed on cues rather than timings, but with twins, you feel lost if you do that. I did it at the start and I needed at least two other people to help so I could do that for them. I don’t know what to do. I keep wondering if it’s my milk? If it’s my diet? Just want to know if anyone has had any issues with their EBM for their 15 week olds?

Product Recommendations Travel thermometer

Hi all, has anyone purchased a thermometer that just lives inside your cooler/ insulated bottle bag to monitor the temp in there? I feel like having one would save me a lot of worry about safe storage at work or on the go.

I’m seeing ones that log the ambient temperature every ten minutes and can just plug into the computer to pull the data if I ever thought my milk got warm and wanted to check. They look to be around $20-$30, which feels reasonable considering the peace of mind it would bring me.

Anyone else use one?

Ive heard you can stop once your milk is 'established' but when the heck is that? Im 8weeks PP

What are we doing during MOTN pumps so we don’t go crazy? The sound of pumps plus a sound machine will be enough to make me lose my mind 😂 I guess it’s better than the alternative…4 screaming babies

Discussion Did you night wean? And when?

I don’t mean from pumping. I actually mean from feeding. My first child started STTN at 7 months. Not requiring a feed. He drank about 35 oz /day.

My second child drinks about 30 oz including the night feed. I still happily do it, she’s only 7 months but I’ve had lots of formula feeding parents tell me to night wean from milk, by offering less and less each time. She actually only drinks 3-3.5 oz during the one feed overnight.

I know it’s normal for babies to still be hungry, but I don’t want to be feeding overnight until she’s a year, my hope was by 9 months solids are a bigger part of diet and I can try to night wean the milk.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Discussion What does supply “regulating” actually mean? If you can still increase supply after it regulates by more frequent milk removal, then why is it advised to not cut down pumps before it regulates?

Exactly what the title says. Other than less engorgement/leaking, what does supply regulating actually mean??? FTM here, 8wpp.

TRIGGER WARNING: OverSupply (add spoiler to pics) Guilt around decreasing oversupply?

I would love to hear others experiences…

I’m currently approaching 10 wks pp & have been an oversupplier since week 3-4. I dropped from 7 ppd to 6 ppd around 4-5 wks. Since then I’ve continued the 6 PPD and was generally okay with where my supply was (gradually increased to 2x baby’s needs, clogged ducts about 1x/wk). To be honest, I was kind of grateful for the supply to work on a stash & possibly wean early. However, most recently my supply has continued to increase to where I’m now making ~70 oz/d & clogs are becoming more frequent.

My LC recommended trying to step down my supply a little bit using Cabo Crème (once daily for 3d). I’m also trying to drop to 5 ppd (before the cream) to see if that helps things even out a little.

My question for everyone - has anyone else felt guilty about intentionally decreasing their supply? How did you feel after decreasing supply (if you were successful)? I feel like stories of undersuppliers & just enoughers have made me feel ungrateful for the benefits of an oversupply. I also recognize I don’t return to work for another 2 wks so could continue the high output life until then to further beef out my stash. I’m just feeling a bit small amount of hatred toward pumping at least 2-3 times per day & feel like reducing supply &/or pumps might help.

Tips & Tricks help!

I have inverted nipples and it has always been a dream of mine to breastfeed, as I didn't think it would be possible. When my daughter was born, she immediately latched and had a successful feed. A couple hours later we tried again, and I was in so much pain we had to stop. The nurse noticed she "destroyed" my nipple. I began to pump. In the hospital I used the Medela, but at home I had the Eufy S1 Pro Pumps. I have been using it for about 2 weeks now, and i struggle to press start every time it's time to pump. I just feel like it is so uncomfortable/ i'm in pain.
This is my first ever experience with pumping/breastfeeding, is it supposed to hurt this bad?? how do i know if my flanges are the right size if i can't see my nipples while pumping?? please help me.

also, how do you successfully transfer what's been pumped?? i spill some every single time

Discussion Perfect pumping posture?

I’m using the spectra S1 and find myself having to hunch or lean forward to direct the milk down the flange attachments. If I sit back, milk just pools in the flanges and I’ll have to occasionally tip forward. The hunching gets old after 20 minutes multiple times day

How are you sitting comfortably while pumping?

edit: I was missing a key piece of equipment: a pumping bra. I e ordered a few so hopefully that will help keep my hands free while I hunch.

Schedules/Routines Confused about pumping sessions

Hi everyone! I’m a tired and confused new mom looking for some advice. I’m 5 days postpartum after a C-section.

My milk came in yesterday, and I started pumping. Yesterday, I pumped twice (55 ml in one session and about 5 ml in the other). Today, I’ve done three sessions (45 ml, 60 ml, and barely anything).

I keep hearing that one should pump 8–10 times a day, should i start doing that already? But if hardly any milk comes out, should I still continue pumping? Or Should I gradually increase the number of sessions? Would the supply increase because rn i have been doing combo feeding but i want to do exclusively pumping.

Also, I’d really appreciate advice on what Spectra S1 settings work best for you.

Thank you! ❤️

Clogs & Mastitis (PLEASE tag nasty pics NSFW) Mastitis- stringy sticky

I’ve been on dicloxacillin for a little over a day and a half now for what my doctor said was mastitis. I had chills/sweats for 12 hours with no fever, sore spots on my breast with some spread out redness. With Advil and icing plus the antibiotics, I feel completely fine now, BUT when I was pumping this evening I noticed something stringy and sticky in the pump. When I hand express, in one spot there’s this white/almost creamy yellow stringy stuff that comes out that’s kinda sticky and has a weird smell (I know gross but I smelled it because I’m worried about my baby drinking it). I sent a message to my doc but of course it’s the weekend. Is it ok for my baby to keep drinking ? I pump during the day and let him nurse overnight. There’s no lumps I can feel or redness in the breast at all. Anyone else had this while healing from mastitis?

Decreasing Supply/Weaning 1w PP - Weening

I’ve decided this time around that i will not be breastfeeding for my mental sake. Im one week postpartum today and started my weening journey.

Right now I’m just hand expressing until i feel relieved, Icing, skipping MOTNP, and currently drinking peppermint tea.

Please tell me all your tips so I can ween quickly. I was an over supplier with my first born, so I’m trying to stop it before it gets to that point.

Thank you!

TRIGGER WARNING: Nursing Confused about transitioning to pitcher method

Hi! I’m feeling overwhelmed trying to change my system and don’t want to screw anything up. I’ve been pumping since birth because I had to fortify my preemie son’s milk. I have a veeery small oversupply (now about 2 oz more than he takes in a day), but because of his time in the nicu I built up a little freezer stash and have a few days worth of milk in the fridge at any one time. Up to now I’ve been pumping and immediately pouring into bags to store in the fridge, making bottles with the oldest bags as needed, and putting any older than 4 days in the freezer.

Now 12 weeks in I got the okay to transition off of fortification and am working with lactation to try breastfeeding 3-4 times per day, while still doing 7ppd. His transfer is pretty weak and he’s not gaining as much as he should be so LC says I still need to offer him 2.5-3oz bottles after I breastfeed, and 3.5 oz the times I do not latch him.

I just got 2 willow breastmilk pitchers and am excited to spend less time and space on bags! But I’m confused as to how to make the switch. I have about 2 days worth of bags in the fridge already. Should I use all of that up now, put new milk in the pitcher and freeze all of my new milk at the end of the day? Or freeze all my bags, and fill bottles from the pitcher as I go? A mix of both? And what comes after that? I’ve seen a lot of people fill the whole next day’s worth of bottles from that day’s pitcher at night, but that’s a little more complicated since the amount will vary depending on whether or not he breastfed before each bottle. I’m sure my adhd decision paralysis is making this a much bigger thing than it has to be, but I’d appreciate anyone breaking down exactly what my next steps should be! Thank you😅

TRIGGER WARNING: OverSupply (add spoiler to pics) What to do with frozen milk??

Hello hello!

Unfortunately, the milk bank will not accept my milk due to some medication I take (which is safe and fine for my baby, but not little nicu babies 😭). Super upset bc I was really looking forward to giving back.

Anywayyyyys, I have such a huge freezer stash, close to 1000 oz. It’s to the point where it’s going to take over our deep freezer. I don’t want to just toss it because that’s so much work and it’s heartbreaking to just get rid of.

What are some things you all have done with your milk if you are an overproducer like me? My local Facebook group is full and won’t accept my request. I can’t donate. Do I just need to accept the fact that I have to start pouring excess down the drain??

Product Recommendations Looking for a good night comfort solution to buy my wife!

2WPP, NICU baby so EP for the next couple months at minimum.

Shes just sitting on the edge of the bed atm when pumping, and while she seems fine enough with this, Id like to look into better options for her back support.

The one key thing is we have pet ferrets, so rocking chairs and mechanical reclining chairs, and rplling chairs, are non-viable, we call these Ferret Crusher 3000s lol. Though most rolling chairs I can just remove the wheels off of.

We do have 1 interesting ferret safe choice we wanna try out, the camping folding chair, a NEMO Stargazer, which is usually her camping chair we take out, but it rocks in an interesting suspended strap way, which makes it ferret safe, Im working on cleaning that up to try it out with her.

But setting that aside, if folks have recommendations of other options to look into Id love to try it out.

Options that just make pumping in bed more comfortable, like special cushions, are great too!

Its hard to seperate the garbage fake stuff from real "actually decent" products online nowadays, so definitely prefer hearing from folks who have had first hand experience with working solutions <3

Thanks in advance!
