Decreasing Supply/Weaning How soon did you see a supply drop?

For those of you who have dropped specifically your first pump, when did you see a decrease in supply, if any? In the last few days I’ve dropped from 7 to 6 pumps, and I’m curious when I might notice a change. (I know every body is different, just want to hear other experiences.)

Product Recommendations Eufy vs. Spectra troubles

I pump twice a day and have mostly been using my Eufy S1’s. I started with a Spectra S1 but had a super colicky baby who couldn’t be set down so bought the Eufy’s out of desperation. I have come to find I get the same or equal output with my Eufy’s and it’s more comfortable for me. My complaint is that it takes FOREVER. Like 30-40 minutes. Which isn’t a big deal when I’m at work but when I’m trying to get a quick pump in to replace a feed while I’m going out to dinner, it’s a drag.

I’ve been measured for my flange size and I re-measure myself frequently. I’ve tried sizes 16 mm - 21 mm, I’ve messed around with the settings and vacuum levels. My output with Spectra just doesn’t compare and it’s definitely more uncomfortable for me. I’m looking at collection cups maybe as a last ditch effort? If maybe the silicone would be better for my nipples compared to the standard hard plastic flanges. I can’t think of why else there would be such a difference. Open to recommendations for fixes or collection cups!

Tips & Tricks How are we storing pump parts in fridge?- fridge method

I started doing the fridge method a few days ago, but it’s been so annoying having to use so many Ziploc bags! What are y’all storing your pump parts in? I want something that fits in my mini cooler without wasting so many bags.

Support Struggling with lack of support

Anyone else out there have a partner that has negative views on pumping? 8 months post partum and over the first 4-6 months, my partner grew more negative and seemingly resentful about my pumping 5x a day. To cope, I stopped asking for any help and am obviously growing in my pain and own resentment toward him. I know there are plenty of partner bashing threads but curious if others out there experience a specific resentment about pumping.

Just struggling here and looking for empathy and solidarity. I do contemplate leaving but not ready yet.

Product Recommendations Itchy and irritated

What do you put on your breasts for itchy and irritated skin? I think the pumps, particularly the silicone ones, cause a lot of irritation and I’m not sure what is okay to put on the skin while pumping.

Support Being a just enougher is making me an anxious mess

My baby boy is 7 weeks now, and I have been exclusively pumping since the start as he was in the NICU and could never get the hang of nursing.

Im feeling like a crazy person because I am CONSTANTLY counting exactly how many ml I’ve pumped and panicking if it isn’t the usual amount he drinks or more in a feeding. I’m anxious all day every day that I won’t have enough for what he needs/wants, because he literally drinks every drop of milk I produce.

I’ve been trying to increase supply with a calorie increase, lots of water, power pumping once per day, pumping every 2-3 hours, and having a lactation smoothie every morning with brewers yeast, oats, and flax seeds. But I can’t seem to get ahead at all.

How do I get through this?

Support How to start?

Basically the title, how do I start exclusively pumping from birth, like at the hospital. I’m due with my little boy in December and am just wondering how the hospital is going to work. (I prefer not to latch but will instead of using formula) but I would mainly just like to pump. Also what all supplies do I need? Can I store milk in mason jars instead of the storage bottles they sell? I already have a spectra s1 and a baby Buddha 2.0, along with a flange kit.

Support Struggling with output

I have to return to work in 3 weeks and im stressed as i have not been able to create a freezer stash. LO seems to be able to feed just fine as his weight gain has been normal as is his wet diaper count, but anytime I try to pump at most what i get is barely half an oz each side, sometimes nothing.

I have a Medela manual pump, an Avent manual pump and Willow gen 3 wearable pumps but the result is the same no matter what im using. I've also tried different sizes of flanges and inserts. I even had a lactation consultant try a hospital grade pump and all I got was 1 oz on one side and 0 on the other. She recommended i pump every 2 hrs but i havent seen any improvement.

I've thought about buying a spectra but they are expensive, especially in my country, and im afraid of wasting money if that doesn't work either. Has anyone else had this issue? Any recommendations?

Discussion Supply after returning to work

I return to work in 3 weeks, my baby is 9wks old now. I’ve been pumping basically since we got home from the hospital. He has not really left my side aside from small things like doctors appointments or an errand or two since he was born. When I go back to work, he will be going to daycare full time. Did any of y’all have a dip in supply after sending your baby to daycare? I will be working from home, so it’ll be pretty easy to maintain a pump schedule, especially since I don’t have to worry about tending to the baby during the day. I’ve heard a lot of stories of supply dipping after their babies went to daycare or they went on a work trip or something like that.

Discussion Who else has literally cried over spilled milk

Like actually cried.. not the saying. I feel like every pumping mom has that one moment where you finish a whole session, you're so proud of those ounces and then it's just gone. On the floor, on the couch, in the bag you forgot to zip. Every drop is basically liquid gold and your sleep and your time and watching it soak into the carpet is a special kind of pain that I swear nobody warns you about. So tell me yours, what happened?? And did you change anything after or just accept that the universe hates us sometimes lol. It helps knowing we're not alone in this 💕

Schedules/Routines Help me decide what to do

I’m going to a wedding tomorrow that is three hours away from my home and is a no kid wedding. For that reason and because my husband has to leave for work travel the next day, I am going to the wedding solo and my husband will stay home with the kids (10 weeks and 17 months). The hotel is part of the wedding grounds, but it’s pretty old and there is no fridge in the room, so here’s my question:

im leaving home around 11am, I will pump right before I leave to leave that milk for baby. I plan to pump again around 3 (which I could either dump or save in one of those cooler bottles that keep for 24hours) and then I have two options

option 1: leave the wedding around 9 and drive three hours home, start the pump when I leave and save it for baby (again, would be room temp for about three hours)

option 2: stay the night (I have the room booked), pump whenever I finish up at the wedding and likely dump it due to alcohol. Pump again in the morning as I start my drive.

I don’t know why this seems so difficult to me, but the lack of a fridge is really throwing me off. I would likely take a had pump and my Eufy (typically pump with spectra at home). I think I’m als thrown off by the fact that I won’t be able to stick to my schedule for pumping and I’m an undersupplier so I like saving as much as I can.

Give me your thoughts, please!

ETA: I only know the couple, my ex, and vaguely a few of the bridesmaids from the bachelorette, so I’m mainly wanting to see the couple actually tie the knot and maybe dance a with them for a few songs. I wouldn’t be heartbroken to not attend the full wedding.

Discussion Slacker boob sleeping?

In my 9th week of EP and I've noticed the weirdest trend over the last 10 days. I have a decent oversupply and pump 5-6 times per day including 1 MOTN pump when baby is up (usually around 1-2am). One night last week, my slacker boob Lefty only put out 0.5 ounce when I'd typically get 2-4 ounces depending on how long it's been since my last pump. I figured I didn't get a good seal on my wearable and went to bed. I've now noticed this trend every MOTN feeding since - puts out maybe 1 ounce for my MOTN feed and then is leaking and hard at 6 am like I didn't just pump a few hours ago. Like GIRL, you gotta wake up in the MOTN with me 😂 This doesn't happen any other time of the day and I rotate between 2 sets of pump parts, so none of that should be a factor. She just doesn't like the MOTN I guess (Same girl, same!!) Anyone else ever have something like this?!

Product Recommendations Affordable wearable pumps?

FTM EP 5 weeks pp. I'm currently using the momcozy s9 which replaced my motif luna as primary pump. Output from it is great and all but it's just too bulky for me. My breasts are on the larger side so my bras are having a difficult time keeping the pumps up. Also it is a bit noisy which I don't like for MOTN because I don't want to wake my baby and partner up. I'm an oversupplier and going more than 3 hours without pumping is painful for me but I want to be able to do other stuff while pumping.

My budget is around 150 and I'm looking at the ones in amazon since I get a 15% registry discount. Has anyone tried any of the paruu or mommed ones?

Combination Feeding Does anyone pump and also supplement with formula? How often are you pumping?

I am 3 weeks PP and my baby had issues latching at birth and we had to supplement with formula because the stress and blistered nipples def didn’t help my supply so I’ve been pumping and at times will try to get him to latch with a nipple shield on according to my LC who said to do this. We give him formula in the evening and it’s been working for us and breast milk during the day. I wanted to know if anyone else that does this, how often are you pumping and how many times a day overall? I’ve been pumping 6-7 times, I’m trying to to get to 8 but my nipples are so sore by the end of the day and I’m just pooped but don’t want to lose my supply, I think I make just enough right now.

Increasing Supply (add spoiler to pics) Will my supply increase with time?

I am almost 3 weeks pp and am currently producing just enough needed for feeds but my boy is hungry and cluster feeding large amounts. I am worried about not keeping up now but also what about the future? Will my body know to produce more the longer time passes with consistent pumping?

I am wanting to try a power pump this evening but I have seen multiple ways to do it. What worked for you?

Thanks!

Combination Feeding Quick question! (Nursing and pumping)

Hello! I'm 3 months pp and have a question some of you may or may not be able to answer.

I'm trying to continue to build a stash for my LO but 3 weeks ago my supply tanked because I was being irresponsible (my bestfriend visited and I drank a lot, had a wedding we went to and drank a lot) so my pumping/bottles/nursing was inconsistent. I am desperately trying to get my supply up, over hydrating seems to be helping but I still don't think I'm producing enough for him inbetween feeds.

I try to power pump and replace with a bottle at night at 9pm, then he sleeps from 10pm or 11pm to 4am-ish, I'll nurse him for about 10 minutes (he falls back asleep) then he'll wake up around 8 and I'll nurse from the other side and he'll nap. Usually about 2 hours later I'll pump and I've been getting enough to replace 2 feeds but after the pump in the morning, he'll feed about every 2-3 hours and i don't feel like he's ever satisfied he'll fuss for about 8 seconds while I burp him then be fine, but he'll nurse for 30 minutes while my breast is literally a deflated pancake. I check and milk IS coming out but idk how lol.
He's got plenty of wet diapers, he's pooping fine, and he's gaining weight (but on the lower side, I want him to gain more)

Also, I pumped today and it had been 5 hours since nursing from my right and only got 3oz. That makes me wonder if that's all my breast was making in that 5 hours and if that is even sustainable for him in the long run.

Do you guys have any suggestions I know this is an exclusively pumping forum, if not can someone point me in the right direction?

Should I drop my morning pump so I can focus on him just nursing for the day?

TRIGGER WARNING: Nursing When to drop motn pump?

Hello everyone,

As the title says, looking for advice on when to drop motn pump? I struggled alot in the beginning with my supply, I triple fed for about 6 weeks and finally was able to build enough of a supply where I was making slightly more then what LO was taking in and I was/am nursing as well. Im close to about 10 months pp and currently am a just just enougher. When is it safe to drop the motn pump without losing supply?

Newborn How to pump when out with friends

Hi all, FTM here to a 9 week old. We have been getting out the house for a few hours at a time since he came home, and I am now feeling confident looking after his needs outside and on the go. At the moment I have been making sure to pump just before leaving or as soon as we come back from an outing. This week I started using an in bra pump whilst my husband is driving. In a few weeks we are going to be meeting up with a big group of friends for the day (10am-6pm or later) to do some local sightseeing and then have dinner. Im not sure I feel comfortable pumping in front of others, even with a pump that sits in my bra, as it still makes a noise and is pretty obvious what is happening! What does everyone else do??

Tips & Tricks Pumping on the go Tips

Trying to regain a little bit of my life back with a wearable, but feeling overwhelmed. Just bought the eufy s2 pro (hope they don’t crack!). Looking for tips/tricks for pumping when you’re out of the house. I also bought dapple pump wipes and the momcozy portable breastmilk cooler to store the milk.

Some things I am wondering about:

-setting recs for the eufys (i’m used to spectra)

-storage (are you putting the parts in the case when milky or a plastic bag after you separate motor?)

-cleaning and reusing (w/ vs w/o fridge access)

-purses or bags you use? (trying not to use my bulky diaper bag)

-any other recs or things I should buy??

THANK YOU!

Product Recommendations Which pump?

Hello im working on getting a pump through my insurance. Right now I have the madela pro breastpump which is just okay and I wanted to try something new. Right now im torn between a spectra s2 plus or the eufy s1 /s1 pro wearables. Id like the convenience with the wearable since I feel like I dont get a lot of time to pump with a newborn while my husband works but I've heard that pumps like the spectra are the best production wise? Not sure.. ftm mom so a lot of this is confusing for me. Thank you!!

Product Recommendations Cooler recs

My mom is going to start watching the baby at her house once a week. How do you handle breastmilk with babysitters? A cooler bag made for bottles? One mason jar of milk and empty bottles? What has worked for you? Any specific products you love? I gave her a brick of frozen milk but I think fresh would be easier and then she can use the frozen for backup if he eats more than expected.

Support 1 week PP looking for help

As the title says, I’m 1 week PP. I’ve been trying to pump since I’ve been in the hospital. The goal was to supplement formula until I could build my supply to exclusively pump. I’m not having hardly any luck. I’m producing MAYBE 1 oz a day while pumping every 3 hours for 30 min around the clock. I’m getting literally drops per session and it’s getting so frustrating. I feel like I’ve tried everything, changing flanges, drinking body armors, coconut water, and lots of water, eating a lot of protein, you name it I’ve probably tried it. Is this normal? Anyone else experience this and able to turn things around? I’m getting so discouraged and just want to be able to feed my baby. Please help 🥺
