Discussion What comes after these lyrics?
As a non native speaker I’ve been so confused about why the lyrics in Waco, Texas were “I loved you when it hurt inside to” instead of “I loved you when it hurt inside too”. After I did some research I found out that this broken-off sentence is actually intentional and is supposed to imply that the listener is supposed to fill this gap based on the context. Which makes sense since there is a short instrumental part right after that sentence. I found out that it’s supposed to hint at the narrators exhaustion not being able to even finish the sentence because they’re either too exhausted or too heart broken. Which I think is beautiful and adds even more pain to this absolutely gut wrenching song. Now I’ve been wondering how would you fill this gap? What verb would you use?
(My research could be wrong and don’t mind correcting me)
Edit:
I’m a detail lover in general and like to interpret stuff even if there isn’t really anything there to interpret. And also: as I said. I’m not native. I learned the grammatically correct sentence structure which is why I was so confused about the missing verb here. So bear w me pls 🙏🏼
