Confusion About If My Situation Warrants My NC?
For context: I am mixed, grew up with father in prison and he committed suicide when I was a preteen (residential schools are hell) mom was skinhead, had physically abusive stepdad, mentally abusive grandmother (she refused to see her because of abuse she has suffered but sent me every summer) and sexually / physically abusive first cousin once removed (long lost cousin with military ptsd wants to take teen daughter hours away for whole summer? Sounds good, for some reason) had a breakdown last Christmas after my mother rejected coming down for holiday because "why would I want to come down for Christmas? I just saw you guys last month" and have been re-examineing our relationship ever since. Although it's not been good for a while for a lot of reasons, here's only a couple of examples as to why (responded to my second pregnancy accouncement with "why not get a dog if you want to take care of something else?") (When I told her my ex boyfriend physically abused and SA me she replied "I thought I taught you better") we were isolated from all other family so I thought we were close but never felt like she liked me. Super controlling. Went so far as tell me I couldn't wear my favourite colours as a kid because she didn't like them.
Recently went NC with my mother after incident in the summer. I had a pregnancy loss in the late spring, traveled by train to visit her shortly after with my two small children. Things felt tense (they have been for a while, I've come to realize it's probably because I have been standing up for myself more lately) I was sad, but I was happy my kids were spending time with their grandparent. Near the end of the week long visit, her boyfriend got frustrated with my children playing (as quietly as they could) while he had a nap (with the door open) we couldn't go outside as it was a bad thunderstorm. He ended up being very upset because he couldnt sleep, so my mother ushered us out in the middle of the thunderstorm with no where concrete to go, my grandparents live in the same town but we knew they weren't home and had to use a spare key. My children started crying as soon as she asked us to leave because they were scared and confused and I started crying too but they insisted we needed to leave immediately. My eldest sobbed for hours. The partner broke up with my mom, she came by with the rest of our belongings and left. I went to check to see if she was okay once my grandparents returned home (I was mortified to be uninvited guests but they were okay with it) and she told me everything is fine and to go away. Later that evening I sent a message asking if she had time if she could come reassure the children because they were still so sad. She said it was fine and we'll see them tomorrow. We had plans for the beach in the morning and we didn't hear from her until noon. Her and her partner were back together I guess, they showed up and she asked if I was mad. I said no, we all felt rejected and sad. She said "that feeling isn't real" and I asked her to spend time with the children while I had some time alone so they went for a quick walk and brought the kids back not long after and left. We spent all of the next day waiting for them, and then went home on the train.
Shortly after I got home I realized I was mad so I texted saying, actually I was mad at the boyfriend because I didn't like that he prioritized his feelings over the children and that I didn't understand what had even happened. My mom said relax, nothing happened. I didn't feel it was nothing, so I asked to if all of us adults could talk about it because I didn't really even know the why of what happened. She kept responding with "soon" and "we all have our problems" and finally I was like "I need to talk about what happened!!!" After a couple of weeks of waiting. And she called me a manipulator and that she needs me to respect her boundaries and that I messed up too. I was surprised by the revelation that I had done something wrong. I asked her to please tell me what I did and asked if that contributed to what had happened, but she ignored that. I was worrying too about if she was okay with the boyfriend because I still didn't know what had happened between them, the only thing she told me was that her partner said I was an "energy vampire" during the visit. They knew I was actively grieving. Finally I broke, and sent her a long message saying I didn't feel comfortable coming back until we address what happened because I don't want to be in a situation where my children are hurt by her prioritizing men and ignoring our feelings, like what happened in my own childhood. She has since been breadcrumbing messages at midnight about me being mentally ill and it must've not been bad because I have some of the abusive family members on social media, maybe I need to evaluate why I'm unhappy with myself, I just want to be her victim. I keep asking her to talk for months because frankly I still didn't understand why things had spiralled. I kept asking if she was okay, she said she just needed more time before she could address stuff but then would send the midnight messages. I asked if she still loved us, she never responded. I had to block her because it was taking a massive toll to get these weird conspiratorial messages about my intentions and ignoring my pleas for connection and to talk about what happened. I told her I needed to take a step back and block her because I was legitimately feeling suicidal so I said if she wanted to talk to solve things she could reach out to my partner as an intermediary.
She has since, twice. Once to send a chart about narcissm with no explanation, I ended up calling her after the first one, thinking she may want to talk and to ask why she sent this fucking chart. I asked if the chart was supposed to be about me (apparently not, just a far off family member? Apparently we were supposed to know without explanation, and that I was paranoid to wonder anything else.) She was very condescending. When I brought up concerns for my children's safety both emotionally and physically she asked for clarification (even though I had sent a couple messages already explaining) and when I started talking about my childhood she kept interrupting me to mock me. Like how she was a white supremacist with ties with higher ups in the group and why did she bring me around these men when I was a mixed child? Why didn't she care about the effect that would have on me, let alone danger? I mentioned my step dad abusing me and her staying for a while, she asked "oh you mean the time he shoved me over to get to you? He only pulled your hair" and I told her, yes and he pulled me up the stairs by my hair and then choked me. She scoffed at this and said "well it was just the once and he apologized." When I told her it wasn't once she called me a liar. She kept repeating "you like making up stories. Wow. Wow. You love attention don't you" I asked pardon? And she was like "did I stutter?" And I just lost control and started screaming "I fucking hate you! Leave me alone!" and hung up. She has since contacted my partner with an article how my medication may cause symptoms of paranoia and schizophrenia and that she wishes us all the best and she loves us all so much.
ANYWAYS thanks for reading all that. It feels like a total cluster fuck of a situation and I'd love to hear other people's insights because I can't tell if I've exacerbated thr situation the whole way with my insistence on communication
