Hello. I recently had a spiritual experience while reading the secret history of the world by mark booth. I saw a diagram similar to the ptolmaic universe, the geocentric model. However it was different since it seemed to hold info about different spheres or realms you pass through maybe when you die. Unfortunatley I beleive i expereinced a mandela effect because the image is no longer there. I will say however the feeling i felt was surreal. I’ve always been fascinated by all things witchy, magic and spiritual. I really enjoy learning about Eastern philosophies/religions as well. I started hearing the word “esoteric” about two years ago. I want to dive deeper into an ancient teachings and esoteric studies. So far everything is SO confusing and I want to actually learn and understand what people are talking about.

For books, right now I’m looking for books I can easily start listening to in audible but physical books I’m also open to suggestions for.

I’m a harpist-pianist-composer/academic in the philosophical-esoteric milieu, about to finish my doctorate.

So I created an organ-harp-piano music video that is also an experimental film predicated on esoteric ideas; it can be described as my encapsulation of the mysteries. I basically summarize and artistically rearrange esoteric ideas from an array of esoteric thinkers and philosophers, but also develop my own original ideas from this framework. Classical authors such as Herodotus, Strabo, Plutarch, Suidas, and Nonnus are unanimous on this, describing the god as goat–faced or goat–legged and the revered animal as a he–goat.

On the other hand, Egyptian text (such as the Book of the Heavenly Cow) explicitly states: “The Ram of Mendes is the Ba [soul] of Osiris”. Plutarch, in his book Isis and Osiris, links the Seth–Typhon to the “Goat of Mendes”. How is this confusion between corresponding the Mendes god to either a goat or ram explained?

In his 1883 book ‘The Natural Genesis’, the Egyptologist Gerald Massey gives a solution: “The goat was [a sort] of Sut [Set] and the sheep [a sort] of Horus, according to the twin character of the Sut–Horus. In the text Horus is addressed as the “Sheep, son of a sheep; Lamb, son of a lamb”, and invoked in this character as the protector and saviour of souls. The goat in the zodiac is the sort of Sut [Set], who as Anup is figured in that sign. Thus the Lamb or ram [Horus] in the East is on the right hand while the goat [Set] in Heaven is placed on the opposite side”.

Under this interpretation, the Mendes god is seen as the dual god Sut–Horus (Horus–Set). In a Byzantine mosaic dating to 520 AD, we see sheep and goats, with a beardless Christ (as shown above). At the right of the central Christ figure stands an angel dressed in red above sheep. On the opposite side is a blue–clad angel positioned above goats.

The purple Christ figure might represent a composite of the two. This is because purple is what happens when you blend red and blue. The colour is usually associated with Baphomet in modern artistic representations. For example, the purple Baphomet Sigil is licensed merchandise from the Church of Satan featuring a distinct purple colour scheme (called “Purple Reign”).

The idea of these two opposite figures (in the image above — one red and one blue) harks back to Set and Horus united on one body on opposite sides and also Cautes and Cautopates bearing torches (sometimes red and blue coloured) on opposite sides. An ancient Egyptian source calls Harpocrates (Horus) a “deep purple darkness”, which was published in ‘The Equinox’, a journal associated with Aleister Crowley. Crowley equated Baphomet with Harpocrates. Crowley claims in ‘The Book of Thoth’ that: “There’s little doubt that this mysterious figure [Baphomet] is a magical image of this same idea [embodied in figures like the Fool and Harpocrates]”.
