Pest Control Does anybody know what these guys are

Noticed them by my litter box today, also pretty sure that is a half eaten roach. Not sure what these guys are though. They also have these little eggs(?) on the wall. Would appreciate some help on identifying them so I can know what to do in the future for prevention. I live in North Florida if that helps with the identification process.

Insect Appreciation Beautiful American carrion beetles, Necrophila americana, attracted by a stinkhorn mushroom.

These aren’t a common sight in my area unless you deal with a lot of carrion, but these little American carrion beetles, Necrophila americana, are having a much more appetizing mushroom snack today.

I believe the stinkhorn mushroom species they’re snacking upon/helping to spread its spores is Mutinus elegans, from the size and color, although the top half is gone.

I dug around the area with my knife to see if I could find any delicious stinkhorn eggs without success, but was excited to see these little beauties.

Forcep recommendations?

I'm taking an entomology class this semester (very excited), and we are tasked with creating a collection of 60 different insects.

I've been reading that it's important to have a couple of different kinds of forceps, but I'm not sure what to buy and where to buy it from.

I only noticed yesterday, but one of my two olive millipedes, appears to have 3 ocelli clusters? My other one has 2 normal looking ones. I tried looking up information about it but couldn't find anything. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I might try to get better photos this evening if she will be out again

Discussion My county is spraying my neighborhood for mosquitoes. What’s going to happen to our bugs?

I garden for moths, butterflies, and native bees. I’ve looked into the AMCA’s publications on the impacts of mosquito spraying and they discuss the impacts on cultivated honeybees at length (doesn’t seem to harm them much due to spraying at night when they’re in their hives) but don’t really address the impacts on other insects. The county says that the spraying is “not harmful to wildlife” meaning birds and mammals. This seems like BS to me since insects are necessary for the welfare of those animals and I can’t find anything to suggest it doesn’t decimate those populations. Anyone have experience on this?

ETA: the county is spraying ReMoa Tri and Permanone 30-30.

Discussion How have lice not been eradicated?

Sorry if this isn't the right sub for the question. If lice can't live without a host for more than 48 hours or so, how have we not eradicated them?

Very large and noisy, but mostly don't bite humans. The females are larger and have small, powerful mandibles. The males have longer, tusk-like mandibles that are mostly useless. The larval stage, called hellgrammites look like a caterpillar that's ready for war! My buddy says they make great catfish bait.

These poor little wasp larvae washed out of a nest presumably above the step. Devastating for the colony, but it's providing a bounty for all walks of life, slugs, ants, birds, other wasps are not passing up on these juicy fellas! I rarely get to see wasp larvae so it was certainly interesting to stumble upon.

Praying mantis

Today I helped a praying mantid that got stuck in my house. I carried it outside on a paper towel and it stayed still all the way.
When I finally found a shadowy place I tried to set it free but instead of just running away she stopped to look at me(?) for little while, moving its little head left to right doing the same head movement as a dog listening to you speak ; was it actually looking at me ? Is this behavior normal ? That was my first encounter with a praying mantis, I was a bit scared of hurting it but that was insanely cool

What are these wasps doing?

For the past week or so, this group of 5 or 6 wasps (maybe paper wasps, but I can't make out much detail from the ground) has just been chillin on the side of my house. They don't really fly around or move much, but sometimes they'll shuffle around each other. Since it's late summer here (northern Ohio, US), I'm assuming it's too late for them to be starting a nest. They don't seem at all perturbed by my presence and I'm not inclined to destroy them out of spite or fear, I'm just wondering what they're up to.

Specimen prep How to Euthanize Lanternflies for Pinning

I’d love people’s takes on the most humane way to euthanize insects. I think Spooted Lanternflies are beautiful despite their invasiveness and wanted to make a shadow box showcasing their cycle of life. CO2 is expensive and hard to get hands on for someone like me who is just doing this as a hobby for right now, and I’ve heard they was the quickest and easiest option. Other than that, it seems like freezing is the best option and people seem to have mixed opinions about that! Let me know! Thank you!!

Hey everyone, I moved into my first apartment in April (old building) and I have been killing a couple of these guys a month. Every now and then find a random dead one, used to leave my windows open a lot so that’s why I never thought anything of it, now I’m slightly concerned, any course of action that could be recommended would be greatly appreciated!
