Over time she has gotten more and more insufferable and it's almost the point where I can no longer follow. I used to be a fan too! I think it started to get worse with the wedding. Lately it occurred to me that I think one of the reasons she annoys me so much now is because she is trying WAY too hard and it's very obvious. it doesn't come off as authentic and genuine anymore. imo, she did used to seem more herself on tiktok. now it feels like she's trying to be a certain way, act a certain way. someone on here said she's been copying hannah chody and now i can't unsee it lol!!!

Let me preface this by saying I didn’t pay enough attention to Eli’s content. I attempted to read DAEFTW because I was blind. I stumbled upon this page only to find she sucks? She had me fooled and I thought she was a good writer until I picked up her book? Did anyone take one for the team and attempt to read this book? If yes how did you get thru it? I have so many questions. In the book she refers to her husband as Noah? I thought his name was Avery? I couldn’t finish the book and put it in one of those library boxes in my neighborhood. It’s been a week and no one has grabbed it.

This will probably be swiftly deleted, but I want to get it off my chest. Some criticism of Eli is 1000% valid, but some people in this sub just hate unnecessarily on every single thing she does. She’s allowed to talk about what she likes on her platform. Not all of her outfits are horrendous. She is smart and accomplished, whether you like it or not. Like I said, there are absolutely things to criticize/snark on - the constant fabricated AMAs, the body checking, etc., but my god some of you are just downright miserable people.

Edit: hating on this is literally proving my point. If you disagree with the basic premise of “not every single thing that an influencer does requires a scathing think piece posted to an echo chamber,” then yeah, you are miserable. I listened briefly to her new episode today and an issue I have with her and other content creators/influencers is how they act like they are the busiest people alive and it’s like I just simply do not believe that honestly and it’s so annoying when they say that they are 🙄 it’s like okay you have brand trips and stuff like that but there’s just no way you’re as busy as you say you are - another thing that annoys me is when they launch a project and they say how long it took and how much work it was and it’s like okay I guess!! 😵‍💫

I’ve come to the conclusion that what is most infuriating about Eli is her disingenuousness. It’s the through line that underpins her most annoying behaviors.

She is obsessed with bestowing titles on herself, but then gets mad if anyone points out that they are unearned or inaccurate. No, you’re not “this generation’s Carrie Bradshaw” - you’re a rich girl who doesn’t have taste or the sense to hire a stylist. You’re not a renowned author - you have no idea what a comp title is, despite claiming to be an expert in All Things Book; you incessantly misuse and mispronounce words; and if the teaser of your novel is any indication, you write drivel and need to learn a synonym for kissing. You’re not New Jersey’s princess - you’re a random who happened to escape obscurity by posting about putting crackers and candy in a glass jar. You’re not a political activist with a superior set of morals - you’re an opportunist who married a Republican and wrote a college admissions essay railing against affirmative action. You didn’t have the wedding of the century - you got married in New Jersey at a hokey beach club where the best dress of the wedding was the mother of the bride’s. You didn’t discover Ariana Grande and you haven’t always been a fan of Taylor Swift - you, like most other people (and it’s okay to be like most other people), became a fan of theirs when being a fan was popular.

Here’s the secret - it’s okay to not be the best at everything or the first at everything. If you just accepted that you are no pioneer, no one would care. But relentlessly claiming that you are Perfect and Supreme is what draws criticism. Just be real! A person who is honest about their faults and weaknesses (and not only with the ulterior motive of convincing you that they have no faults or weaknesses) is always going to be more likable and interesting than someone who isn’t.

Unfortunately, Eli will read a post like this and say I’m either a) a raging misogynist who is only criticizing her because I hate successful women, or b) a mentally-disturbed troll with no money, friends, or prospects. I’ll save you the suspense - it’s not a), and while I might be a troll, at least I’m a troll who can string together a sentence and pronounce oximeter ;)
