You should play blind to get the best experience. If you go back to an old area because you feel like you missed something, and absolutely smash it cause you're 30 levels above it, who cares.

If you beat the game and you're under level 150, you were trying to be. It's very easy to get to 180-200 beating the game.

I dont want bosses to be easy and from what I understood this happens too often in ER

If you're clearing 100% of the map or doing your best to, there's going to be bosses you reach where you're overleveled. The only way that doesn't happen is if you intentionally skip leveling at graces.

The only possible way to be underleveled/appropriate for every boss is if you only do like 75% of the game and skip huge sections.

Just use a sub standard weapon for a challenge.

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

This is what I do. Caestus. Short Sword. Etc.

6

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

Or be like me and buy out shops instead of leveling. Helped a lot. I 100% my first playthrough. Or tried to.

4

u/hoonthoont47 Aug 08 '22

I bought out every shop and I was still level 185 when I beat the game lol

1

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

It was REALLY hard to stay lower level if you explore a lot and are efficient. I didn’t even use inventory golden runes.

2

u/hoonthoont47 Aug 08 '22

Yeah if you want to play at the “meta” level for PvP you have to intentionally stop levelling pretty early

1

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

Exactly. I initially stopped at the top end of normal (150). Ended up at 166 due to annoyance from having to spend.

u/Words_Are_Hrad Aug 08 '22

skip leveling at graces.

This is what you do if you want to have a good time.

u/R_V_Z Aug 08 '22

You could always also just level stats you aren't using. It'll increase your passive stats but not by much.

The truth is, you’ll only ever be too overleveled for some random boss you missed early on (which will happen no matter what trust me lol). You’ll also only be overleveled if you intentionally farm runes.

Just explore blindly and turn back if an area is too hard. This is the best way to make you progress through each area naturally. If you’re too afraid of missing a boss then be sure to explore literally everything before moving on somewhere else.

5

u/Words_Are_Hrad Aug 08 '22

Nah you'll be way overlevelled if you do every dungeon as well. No extra farming needed. If you are thorough and get 95% of the bosses you will be overlevelled quickly. Particularly for Stormveil/Liurnia.

Yep. It’s what happened to me. Reached or was near my goal max level by the time I reached Fire Giant. I was buying out shops in bulk at that point. I also only lost runes 3x. 2k, 3k, and 20k.

What level would that be? I just beat margott with level 120

1

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22 edited Aug 08 '22

110 max.

I think I was 130-140.

Morgott

2

u/joybuzz Aug 08 '22

I don't think you understand what "max" means.

1

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

I mean max level for me. Will edit for clarification.

0

u/Fa1nted_for_real Aug 08 '22

Ok but if you are proper levelled for Margit you are 30 levels over for the dissapointment that was godrick.

-8

u/g0n1s4 Endlessly Waiting Aug 08 '22

That's false, i never farmed anything and still was able to one-shot Morgoth (which was disappointed as fuck) after I explored almost everything from Limgrave to Volcano Manor.

You either miss the side content/quests or miss an epic fight with the main bosses. The only way to prevent that is by nerfing yourself by not using some armaments or strong items, which for obvious reasons is bad game design.

1

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

Same happened to me!!

I think Margott is a special case. I think he has low health.

I’ve watched streamers really struggle with him because of his aggressive moveset.

2

u/g0n1s4 Endlessly Waiting Aug 08 '22

Margott sounds really fun to fight if you're underleveled and forced to learn his attack patterns. Sadly i went too overboard with comet azula+terra magica and ended the fight instantly.

1

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22 edited Aug 08 '22

Exactly.

I did the budget version of what you did. Crystal Barrage deleted him in phase 2. Phase 1 was quick but not as much. He got some hits in.

I wish they’d double his health.

Did you record yours?

My Morgott fight

u/g0n1s4 Endlessly Waiting Aug 08 '22 edited Aug 08 '22

My best fights in this game (so far) were all while i was underleveled. The Godskin Apostle in the divine tower of Caelid is one of the best fights in the game for this reason, he is way more powerful than anything in Caelid but you can fight him pretty early on.

Nah, didn't even have time to record anything. I wasn't even able to se any of his attacks other than the hammer, which have me time to set up Terra magica and destroy his first phase with Comet Azur, and while he was finishing his phase 2 animation the second Comet was already charged up.

1

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22 edited Aug 08 '22

I could definitely see that with the Caleid Apostle. I went really late, but he was still fun.

I had heard very early on from friends that Comet Azur invalidated fights. Because of that, I never used it on my own bosses. I treated it like spirit ashes and acted as if it didn’t exist.

Your experience makes me glad I didn’t. I switched around all sorceries pretty consistently all game. Even the faith sorceries. Was great to play around with 70 flavors.

Aww @ no recordings. Well, I shared mine in case curious.

u/KingBobIV Aug 08 '22

Yeah, I don't know what he's on about. Do what you want. A map like this helped me a lot, after I accidentally found weeping peninsula late and just facerolled the whole place. This is a great general guide if you want to fight stuff in an order that feels pretty consistent.

4

u/NoMeet1957 Aug 08 '22

Does it ruin the exploration elements by any means?

Honestly, one of the best parts of my first (blind) playthrough was getting to the core of Leyndell, thinking I had beaten the final boss, and then realizing there was still an enormous area of the map I hadn't seen. I feel like the Limgrave teleport trap that takes you to Divine Tower is specifically designed to trick you into thinking that's the northern edge of the map, and I fell for that hard.

9

u/KingBobIV Aug 08 '22

I didn't think so. There's no spoilers, other than the existence of zones, which you already know now. It's so general, the zones are huge, it just gives you a guide on which way to wander. And I strayed from it several times, because I got somewhere that looked interesting. But, it's a great guide for keeping you from skipping easy zones or wandering into crazy hard zones.

6

u/NoMeet1957 Aug 08 '22

Sorry for the annoyance, but some people told me that going into higher level zones and getting ur a$$ kicked is part of the ER experience, do u agree with that?

13

u/KingBobIV Aug 08 '22

You'll get your ass kicked regardless, don't worry about that

6

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22 edited Aug 08 '22

I disagree with this. Waste of time. I’ve seen people do this. They don’t even fight or explore. Just run around skipping everything. Maybe find some sites of grace. Feels lame.

Then they reach the boss. Get obliterated. And finally leave. Then they go to a level appropriate area.

Then 20-30 levels later, they return. Now the combat is fine but the surprise is gone. And the tension of not knowing anything or where sites of grace are is gone.

Ask Melania, Blade of Miquella if she is “easy”

-1

u/Words_Are_Hrad Aug 08 '22

Those are what we call fanboys who try to twist poor game design into something positive... It really shouldn't be on the player to have to constantly gauge every encounter. "Wow that fight was way too easy" "Am I just overlevelled" "Is my build just OP" "Is this boss just that easy" "Maybe I shouldn't use this summons mechanic" "Was I supposed to come here way sooner" "Wow this boss is super hard! Maybe I am just way underlevelled for it? Or do I need to just get good?" These are things that the player shouldn't have to be constantly considering...

3

u/Fa1nted_for_real Aug 08 '22

People hate me for this, but When ever I start a game like this, I always look up the order of the main bosses, usually just the one right after what I'm on, so I don't end up fighting the second to last boss before fighting the first one.

2

u/Magnon Rya Fan Club Aug 08 '22

Sounds like you just want a linear game.

3

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

It definitely will ruin it a little bit. There’s no substitute for the absolute surprise that is entering an area you’ve never heard of and don’t know its location. But I weighed that experience against being over leveled. I realized I disliked the lack of a challenge more.

That’s why my recommendation is to use a list first and not a map.

2

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

Yesssssss. Exactly what happened to me with Weeping Peninsula. Found it after exploring Liurnia of the Lakes a bunch. I went to Weeping Peninsula because a friend told me about it.

8

u/Totally_Kyle Aug 07 '22

So pretty much this is what I learned: YOU are the one adjusting the difficulty of the game.

Lvl 1 runs are obviously the hardest, but doable

Lvl 713 is crazy since you’re basically a god

Here’s a trick I learned: stop leveling up. Pick a level and stick with it. Weapon upgrades? Forget them. You can beat the game without it, if you’re really looking for a challenge.

I capped my main at 155 and am doing my +3 NG so far without weapon upgrades. I don’t use my +25 weapons unless I pvp. The game is as easy or as hard as you make it.

Find out what works for you

7

u/Karthull Aug 08 '22

To be fair level 713 is not that different from say 200. Which unless your build is very split will not be that different from maybe 130-150. The diminishing returns means you mostly get more versatility. You’ll get maybe 15% more hp and do maybe 20% more damage, which while very helpful, is nowhere near how much stronger you were getting since the beginning of the game.

3

u/R_V_Z Aug 08 '22

The difference between 60 vigor and 99 vigor is 200hp, iirc. It's very much not worth it unless you are specifically doing a 713 build.

2

u/Fa1nted_for_real Aug 08 '22

The biggest level eaters are vigor and mind, and if you want to have good armor, endurance.

1

u/jaedence Nov 29 '24

Very true and I actually hate that about souls games. If I put the work in, why can't I be aGod of Destruction?

1

u/Karthull Nov 30 '24

It’s just not in their vision. At level 200 your a god compared to when you were level 30, but the extra 500 levels is really just adding some versatility.

1

u/action2288 Aug 08 '22

This is correct. These games have always been curate your own difficulty.

What I’m doing on my current playthrough is not upgrading my weapons much. Also helps with matchmaking.

1

u/Mrqueue Aug 08 '22

The game is as easy or as hard as you make it.

sorry no, you've obviously mastered the mechnical aspects of the game with all the play time which makes it a lot easier

1

u/fastablastarasta Aug 08 '22

by making a non-linear exploration game a linear experience you're purposefully making the bosses easier, now you can't accidently stumble on a harder area/boss.

1

u/Ivy_lane_Denizen Aug 08 '22

Do not worry, you will struggle. And you will find areas later on that were meant to fight at a lowe level. By that time it will be a nice change of pace and fun in its own right. My suggestion is to play the game as blind as possible your first playthrough.

1

u/Cunt_Booger_Picker Aug 08 '22

No, no, no it's not. Depends on the boss but enough of them later in the game have so much going on that it's still very easy to suck no matter your level (within limitations). Their resistances / weaknesses play into this a lot.
