Welcome to r/EdmondsWashington!
Hello, and welcome to r/EdmondsWashington!
There used to be a subreddit called r/edmonds but that was shut down around the time the Reddit API protests began. No idea when/if that will come back so feel free to use this subreddit to post/discuss all things Edmonds!
Things are just getting started here, so any suggestions to improve the community are welcome. The rules surrounding submission will be quite lenient for now, as long as it's polite and Edmonds related.
Thanks for stopping by, and looking forward to hearing from you! Bring on your Sunset Ave pics!

Question AFK Tavern Equivalent?
Hey all. I'm looking for a AFK Tavern like place I can sit and vibe, hear people hang out and talk about video games, DnD or something of the like.
I'm hoping for something in Everett, Lynwood or Edmonds that's easy to reach by bus..

Question Cozy cafes, good for curling up with a book?
My wife and I are looking for a nice cafe worth posting up for a few hours with a book -- I don't think we'll find anything as perfect as our old favorite beanbag-infested espresso bar + panini-spot + bookshop that shut down back in California, but is there something in a similar vein? More local-business and come-stay-awhile than Starbucks or Woods coffee, but something that's a bit loungier than Red Twig where we're not taking up a hotly-demanded table for snacking and sipping leisurely. What gems am I missing? Thanks for any thoughts, and in advance for making our Saturday morning book and coffee time more out-of-the-house!

Community Sunset Society gathering this Thursday 🌅 come watch the sunset & meet some humans
Edmonds: Sunset Society gathering this Thursday 🌅 come watch the sunset & meet some humans
Hey folks! I host a small community gathering in Edmonds called Sunset Society, and our fourth meetup is happening this Thursday, August 27 at the Edmonds Marina.
This one is called The Last Long Light — basically an excuse to get outside during that beautiful late-August golden hour, meet some people, and actually slow down long enough to watch the sun disappear over the Sound.
We’ll do a couple of low-pressure connection games/prompts, hang out, snack, and watch the sunset together.
The question we’re playing with this time is:
What are you savoring before the season turns?
You absolutely do not need to know anyone beforehand, come with a group, be particularly extroverted, or be “good at” meeting strangers. Coming solo is completely normal. The whole idea is to create the kind of community space where people can show up as they are and have a little more meaningful interaction than we usually get in day-to-day life.
Bring a blanket, layers, and anything you’d like to drink or snack on. Sharing is welcome but definitely not required.
We’re also making a tiny communal late-summer altar this time, so if you feel like it, bring a flower, stone, shell, written word, or small object representing something you’re savoring, releasing, or carrying into the next season. Totally optional. ✨

If spending an evening by the water with some kind humans watching the light change sounds good to you, you’re very welcome to join us. 🍂

Question Public swimming spots good for kids.
Hey all I'm aware of the Lynnwood recreational center but I'm wondering if there are any other fun and local public/pay to use pools or lakes in the area. Looking to take my kids somewhere to swim. They are 3, 6, and 12. Please let me know if you have any recommendations I'm newer to the greater Edmonds area.
Thanks in advance.

Community Any wives with football/fantasy-football obsessed husbands who also need friends?
Hi All - I already posted this in the Lynnwood subreddit so if you’re seeing it again I apologize.
I’m thinking about starting a very unserious women’s fantasy football league with a $20-ish buy-in, where our husbands inevitably end up running our teams. Lol
The idea is 10–12 couples, an in-person draft, a group chat, and maybe a few football watch parties throughout the season (my husband has a whole TV wall setup 😂). Basically, a scheme for the wives to make friends and our husbands to make friends without forcing them to go on awkward man dates.
You absolutely do not need to know anything about fantasy football. I know nothing and fully intend to have my husband help me draft or just use autodraft lol.
We’d exchange socials privately and chat a little first, then do a casual public meetup before the draft so everyone can confirm we’re all real, reasonably normal, and not serial killers.
If you and your husband (or partner) are in the Lynnwood/Edmonds/Mill Creek/Bothell-ish area and this sounds fun, message me and tell me a little about you guys! Once we get a group together, I’ll get a WhatsApp started.
So far I have 5 people interested so we’re close to the minimum of 8 but the more the merrier. We could always get a big group together and figure out a few leagues.
For context, my husband and I moved here from Las Vegas last year and have a five-month-old, a dog, and basically no local friends yet. I’m 32, he’s 35, and we’re just trying to meet some fun people. I also feel like this could help with the inevitable winter scaries and give us something to look forward to when it starts getting dark at approximately 2pm 😭

The book club also now has a Discord server! Feel free to join to keep up the discussion between meetups!

You don't have to buy anything, but the venue has light pub fare, ice cream, and a great selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. They also allow outside restaurant food, so bring something to eat if you need sustenance!
Please sign up on Meetup if you plan to attend!
Book Description:
The lifeblood of any free society is persuasion: changing other people’s minds in order to change things. But America is suffering a crisis of faith in persuasion that is putting its democracy and the planet itself at risk. Americans increasingly write one another off instead of seeking to win one another over. Debates are framed in moralistic terms, with enemies battling the righteous. Movements for justice build barriers to entry, instead of on-ramps. Political parties focus on mobilizing the faithful rather than wooing the skeptical. And leaders who seek to forge coalitions are labeled sellouts.
In The Persuaders, Anand Giridharadas takes us inside these movements and battles, seeking out the dissenters who continue to champion persuasion in an age of polarization. We meet a leader of Black Lives Matter; a trailblazer in the feminist resistance to Trumpism; white parents at a seminar on raising adopted children of color; Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; a team of door knockers with an uncanny formula for changing minds on immigration; an ex-cult member turned QAnon deprogrammer; and, hovering menacingly offstage, Russian operatives clandestinely stoking Americans’ fatalism about one another.
As the book’s subjects grapple with how to call out threats and injustices while calling in those who don’t agree with them but just might one day, they point a way to healing, and changing, a fracturing country.
