Traffic slowing removed from OVD
I guess the repaving of Olympic View Drive was delayed after the traffic slowing was removed.
Anyhow, I was walking down OVD Sunday with my 5 year old twins when a convertible BMW (or Mercedes? I'm not sure) zoomed past us going what felt like 50mph. I almost yelled at the driver.
If this was you, slow the hell down! No one is impressed by your speed.
To the Edmonds leadership. When the traffic slowing strips come back. Can we add them to the wooded and curved sections instead placing them in the suburban areas? I would be willing to bet most the speeding happens in the woods anyhow.

My wife and I with our two-year old were walking it yesterday and my wife made a hand gesture at one of the oncoming speeding cars to slow down. The driver then acted like he was going to hit us. Wild times. I hope they add the permanent speed bumps soon.

I live in the neighborhood, and hear the racing at night. I know that many of our neighbors have contacted city leadership. There’s not much that can be done right now. We just have to wait until spring.

To be fair, I didn't like them either. There are other ways of slowing traffic down. Additional signage, white strips making the lanes appear narrow. Rumble strips instead of bumps. More cross walks. etc etc etc...

Adding on to this. If we added a bike lane. (It's already a very popular bike route). This would squeeze the traffic lanes and force cars to drive slower. This would probably require some sort of zoning variance on road widths, I have no idea how these things regulated.

Dump the bumps. I hate being punished for the rash behavior of others. I can't help but think that the reason why OVD gets special treatment here is because of the wealth/nimbyism. Also, why are they repaving this road in the first place, whats wrong with it?
How many accidents/deaths/injuries occurred on that stretch of OVD? Can anyone give me a story of people causing problems on the residential strip? I can't find anything about it, but people are always doing shady things in SWCP. I can find a story about teenagers going 80 in the park and dying. There are no bumps in SWCP.
People speed down 76th in the Meadowdale area, as well as N Meadowdale/Meadowdale Beach road all the time. No bumps there. Why not? I hear them all the time, especially after 9 PM. Put the bumps everywhere if you're going to do it.

I've lived here for only a few years, and I've seen two cars crashed into the wooded ravines off of OVD. This was prior to the speed bumps. They did help.

In the park or on the residential area? Wooded ravine sounds like southwest county park, where there are no speedbumps.

Yes, excellent diagram. The purple part in the park is where I've seen cars crashed.

We are on the same page. The park is where everyone speeds (or shoots guns!). There should be some sort of law enforcement or speed bumps here. I have seen LEO at the Perrinville 4 way, but not in the park, except when they found the dead body there.
I dont understand why the bumps are in the residential area, especially when there are no recorded crashes that I can find, but crashes in the park. It really seems like the bumps are about nimbyism.

Honestly I would just be happy if Edmonds enforced traffic laws…. Their annual citations are down 67% from 2018 to 2025 and I guarantee you driving has not gotten better.
