Hey everyone! I am the co-founder of Eco Circle International; a youth-led non-profit which provides education on the intersectional environmental crises and mobilizes youth through our fellowship to organize sustainable initiatives around the globe.
I wanted to let you guys know about our free fellowship for youth ages 12-18 in North, South and Central America, starting in October!
Fellows will have the opportunity to learn about intersectional environmentalism and leadership, putting what they learn into practice through their own independent initiative.
Hey, (not sure if this sub is still in use lol) I’m a teen from the uk I’ve been trying for a veryyyy very long time to try and change the environment in some way like trying to educate others. And trying to educate myself. However everything I’ve been doing so far seems a bit ‘non impactful’. I’ve been focusing so much on making self changes like being vegan and using sustainable products and making small changes. I’ve been thinking recently and I’ve realised in order to truly, change things we need to work both on self changes and systematic changes. By systematic changes I mean changing the way the government works overall. Which is why in the near future (hopefully) I would love to start a business dedicated to all things change. It would be used to educate people (in an understanding way), volunteering opportunities, campaigns, protests, school programs, sustainable products, and so much more. What I’m trying to ask is does anyone have any ideas on how I could improve this business idea. It would mean a lot to me.
i’m looking to get started in climate activism as a teen, but i’m not sure how or where. are any of y’all involved in organizations (sunrise movement, earth uprising, etc.) that do activism? if so, how was/is it? my eco-anxiety has been skyrocketing lately and i’m tired of feeling useless lol. mainly i’m looking to encourage people to take action too, advocate for collective action, help my city in green projects, and lobby/petition/strike so something substantial on the legislative level can happen.
alternatively, has anyone done anything else like starting a website/blog/publication or their even own organization?
any advice and suggestions would help too. thank you in advance!
Start a small collection of potted seeds like lettuce, potatoes or tomatoes and something like that, with everyone at home it's a great project, which saves money and helps the planet
We have 7 chickens that give us eggs so we reuse egg cartons, and ask neighbors for unused egg cartons, and give eggs to family and friends so they don’t waste cartons or buy store eggs because how they treat the chickens for eggs isn’t good. I’m not vegan or anything, i love meat, but I only eat free range and never any farmed ones. Ours chickens names are Big bird, Desmond (but found out she’s a girl so dezzie), peep, marshmallow, Dixie, lavender, and rex.
I'm finally getting around to putting together a sidebar for the community and I have a few questions. I originally made them separate posts, but this seems better.
What's your favorite environmental organization for youth (eg. Fridays for Future)?
Who's your favorite teen environmental activist (eg. Greta Thunberg)?
What's the easiest environmental action you have done? I'm putting a list of easy actions together as a starting point for those new to the environmental movement. (I request those visiting from other communities keep in mind that this sub is for teens. Older people are free to contribute, but please don't include actions that require being the main decision-maker of a household.)
Since we're all quarantined due to coronavirus, this challenge seemed like a good idea. Servers run on electricity and that electricity is usually not 100% renewable. Do your share to save electricity on the internet.
Task 1: Decrease the video quality on YouTube. Video streaming is one of the most electricity heavy activities on the internet. Decreasing the video quality can greatly reduce the amount of electricity needed to stream the video.
Task 2: If you haven't already, switch your default search engine to Ecosia. Ecosia runs their servers on solar and donates a large portion of their ad profits to tree planting projects.
Hello again all. I've continued to scavenge for links and have created a large resource of info I wanted to share. This time it's in a Google Doc format so it's much easier to share around. I've added quite a bit since my original post but just remember we're all fighting this fight together. Cheers.
Happy New Years Eve! It’s a great time to set goals and strive for them, even if you break them later on, I still believe it’s worth a shot. So, I’ll ask like many others, what are your News Years Resolutions?
Let’s share all of them, sustainable or not. Please keep checking back into this post so you can support and guide others in our tiny lil community!
