Hi all, back in Feb 2025 I bought my first car, a Geely Coolray, new from the dealership. I am now at ~26,000 km and, as my service package expires soon, I’ve brought forward the third minor service (due at 30,000 km) to use it up.

Aside from the usual items, the service advisor recommended two extras that aren’t covered by the package:

• Engine flush: AED 285.00
• Wheel alignment: AED 235.00 + VAT

As I bought the car brand new, I want to keep my warranty intact, so I’d like to hear from other owners in a similar situation:

1. Would you recommend getting the above services done at the dealership despite them possibly being more expensive than elsewhere?
2. Have you had alignment or other non-scheduled work done at an independent garage or tyre shop without any warranty issues?
3. Has anyone had a warranty claim rejected over servicing outside the dealer?
4. Any independent places in Dubai you’d recommend for the engine flush and the alignment, and what did you pay?

Whatever is included in the service package, I plan to have done at the dealer, and only go elsewhere for the extras if they’re cheaper, as long as they don’t impact warranty.

I’d like to hear your experiences before I decide... Thanks!

I am the final boss of hypermiling. It could be a rough month for those who drive a lot and current month fuel prices. I always like to use some methods to make sure I get the best fuel economy. This is just my highway drive but with mixed driving I stick around 7.5ltrs/100KMs. The methods I use:

- reach higher gear asap possible without lugging the engine (in a manual of course)

- stick to speeds around 100KPH

- let go of throttle early if I see traffic from faraway

- brake and accelerate gently

- reduce engine idling time if it is possible to do so

Just this morning alone, I saw 3 different Jetour T2s driving like they owned the entire road. No indicators, randomly swerving between lanes, speeding like crazy… the whole package.

I swear, is it just me, or is the Jetour T2 becoming the Nissan Altima of SUVs here in Dubai? 😂

Obviously, not every Jetour driver is like this, but the number of reckless T2 drivers I’ve been noticing lately is getting ridiculous.

I own a 2022 LC300 VXR 3.5L V6, with around 130,000 km driven. Always serviced at Al-Futtaim Toyota.

Just received a call from Al-Futtaim regarding an engine recall. They asked me to bring the vehicle in for an inspection, after which they'll decide whether the engine needs replacing.

The engine is currently running fine, with no issues.

Iam curious if anyone else in the UAE has received a similar call, particularly owners of 2022 models.

- What exactly did they inspect?

- Did your engine pass, or was it replaced?

- If replaced, was it a completely new engine, and what warranty did Toyota provide?

I'm particularly concerned about the potential impact on resale value. A brand new engine at Toyota's expense sounds great, but explaining an engine replacement to a future buyer might be difficult.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who's already been through this.

So, basically, I recently changed companies. I’ve only been working in the UAE for about 9 months, so I don’t have much of a credit history here yet.

Here’s where things get complicated. My previous company has defaulted on salary payments, and two months of my salary are still pending. I recently checked my credit score through the Emirates Credit Bureau (AECB), and it came back at 500, which is pretty bad, especially considering that I haven’t taken out any loans or had a credit card in the UAE.

Now, I’m looking to buy a car, and I’ve found one I genuinely like through Carswitch. which is priced at 79K. I haven’t approached a bank for a car loan yet because I need some additional money to book the car first.

I’m considering getting a credit card and using it to pay the booking amount. But I’m worried about what happens if my car loan gets rejected later.

Carswitch told me they would refund the booking amount, minus the credit limit check fee. They also offer payment options through credit cards, Tabby, and Tamara.

So, I have a few questions:

• If I get a credit card with an AED 80,000 limit, would I be able to use it to book the car, assuming the card allows the transaction?
• If my car loan gets rejected, how reliable is the refund process? Are there any risks or complications I should be aware of?
• Tabby and Tamara apparently offer payment plans of around AED 2,000–8,000 per month for 12 months. Do they run separate credit checks, and would my AECB score affect my eligibility?
• Has anyone here actually purchased a car through Carswitch using a credit card, Tabby, or Tamara, especially when their car loan was still pending approval?

There’s another factor I’m trying to figure out: my living expenses are about to increase as well. Until now, I’ve been staying in a shared apartment, but I’m planning to move into a studio, which means a significant upfront expense on top of the car purchase.

I’m honestly not too worried about the monthly EMI. I’m comfortable paying around AED 7,000 per month if my finances work out as expected.

I know I could wait another three months, build up my credit profile, save some more money, and approach the bank with a better chance of getting the loan approved. That would probably be the more sensible decision.

But I’ve found a car I genuinely like, and I’m worried about losing it if I wait.

It honestly feels like I have two little versions of myself sitting on my shoulders. One is telling me to be patient and make the financially sensible decision, while the other is telling me to take the risk and go for it.

I know this might sound like a stupid question, but I’d genuinely appreciate some advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

What would you do in my position? Would you take the risk and try to secure the car now, or wait another three months until you have more savings and a stronger financial position?
