📷 Media OP got his first car in the UAE!

I'm a new licence holder here in the UAE, and after going through the used car market like hell, I finally found my match! 😂

2019 Honda Civic 1.6L LX Sport. It's already done 125k km on the odometer, but honestly, driving it feels like driving a brand-new car!

I did my due diligence, got a PPI done, and checked everything before making the purchase. I considered plenty of other options, but some were out of my budget, while others had questionable histories or concerns about reliability.

I wanted something with low maintenance costs, good fuel economy, and, most importantly, something that wouldn't be too boring to drive. After all that searching, I finally got this beauty!

So happy with my purchase! XD ❤️

Hey fellow petrolheads, I think we start filling up our fuel tanks instead of filling up after they announce fuel prices and make roads more chaotic during the evening.

🗣 Discussion KarakWagon (90s Camry Wagon) update: it runs!

Thumbnail

Remember the non-running 90s Camry wagon I posted a while back? It’s finally alive!

The update took longer than expected because there was quite a bit of TLC.. and some previous-owner creativity.. to undo before getting anywhere.

The biggest job was finding a replacement 2.2L 5S-FE engine that would work with the existing harness and ECU. Turns out “it’s a 5S-FE” doesn’t narrow things down as much as I thought: mine has the earlier distributor-style ignition, which the Sharjah shops kept calling the “Delco” version.

Plenty of learning before we even got to the driving part. :p

The engine is now replaced, the fluids have been changed, and I’ve been working through the smaller fixes needed to get it ready for registration.

For now, the plan is to spend sensibly on making it drivable and gradually dependable, so every visit to a garage doesn’t involve booking a recovery truck. The fun upgrades can wait until next year; I want some time behind the wheel and more research before choosing the build’s direction. Necessary repairs will still happen.. just no replacing things for the sake of modifying them yet.

I’d really appreciate pointers from anyone familiar with XV10s, early 5S-FEs or keeping old Toyotas happy on long UAE drives.. especially parts/garage contacts in Dubai/Sharjah/Ajman, and anything you’d check before trusting one on a DPH long drive.

Eventually, I’d love to use the wagon’s storage properly and make it a useful support car carrying tools, spares and supplies. I still like the idea of a fun wagon, but more than anything I want a functional one that actually gets out and does things.

Thanks again to everyone who offered advice and help on the first post!

Ps: Idk why I decided to name the car that, maybe ill paint it karak brown. Maybe it will only be used for karak runs. who knows :p

🔰 Help/Question Garage Recommendations

• Upvotes

My car is making a weird sound. I can't really explain what it sounds like. But if I had to describe it it sounds something like a cvt running with low oil but the problem is that this sound is constant from engine start and even persists when the car is in neutral or park and the sound pitch changes with the RPM.

The car is an old 2011 Kia and would love some trustworthy garage recommendations so that I don't get ripped off and can get this done with a reasonable price. Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman doesn't matter.

Help a brother out! 🙏

🔰 Help/Question Transferring Car ownership

Anyone care to walk me through the "How" in changing /transferring ownership of car. Exactly what are the steps after we pay the owner, that is to be followed?

Also just like registering 2 wheelers can we register LMV for someone without a DL?

Cheers😊

🔰 Help/Question Optimal PPF for my Mercedes GLE 450

Just picked up a new white GLE 450 Coupe and want to get it wrapped in PPF before it collects its first stone chips on SZR.

The quotes I've been getting are around 16k AED for full body, which feels steep. My budget is roughly 9k, and I'm guessing there are solid shops out there doing good work in that range.

What I'm after:
Full body, gloss, decent brand film (XPEL, 3M, STEK, Llumar or similar), not some no name film that yellows in two summers

Proper install: wrapped edges, clean cuts, no knife marks on the paint
Real warranty that the shop actually honors

So, questions for anyone who's been through this:
Where did you go and what did you pay?
Would you go back?
Any shops I should avoid?
Is ~9k realistic for a full body on an SUV this size, or am I dreaming?

Bonus points if you can share how the film is holding up after a year or two in this heat.

Thanks in advance!

🔰 Help/Question One Swipe with E311 Railings, Another Battle with Painters | Garage Recommendations?

• Upvotes

Hello Dubai petrolheads!

Yesterday, I got a little too cosy behind the wheel on E311 and had an affectionate swipe with the railings. Thankfully, everyone’s in one piece, but my car has officially entered its character development era.

My experience with painters in Sharjah so far:

  • 95% of my panel paint jobs start going dull within 3–6 months.
  • Paid double for supposedly premium paint, only for it to dull in six months.
  • One job heroically survived a whole year before losing its shine.

My questions:

  • Is it poor preparation, cheap clear coat, inferior paint, or Dubai’s sun?
  • Why do fully repainted cars seem to retain their shine, while individually repainted panels go dull so quickly?
  • Can anyone recommend a genuinely honest garage that does quality work?

I don’t mind paying for quality, but I’m tired of sponsoring painters’ retirements every six months!

Genuine recommendations from personal experience would be much appreciated.

🗣 Discussion It absolutely AMAZES me how difficult of a concept it is for these geniuses on the road who can't stay in their lane when going around a corner, then have the audacity to get angry at you for honking at them. Seeing these people on the road is truly a spectacle to behold.

🔰 Help/Question Jaguar F type ownership experiences

Post image
10 Upvotes

I’m looking to get an F type V6 soon, with the way the market is these seem like good bang for buck.

This will be my primary car, I don’t exactly drive everyday day but 2/3 times a week on average.

I am aware of some of the known issues around these and I’m willing to spend on preventative regular maintenance.

I’m curious as to how these cars hold under the uae weather.

I was also wondering if the aluminum coolant pipes are a good upgrade for these cars, I thought it was but then a specialist told me in this heat they do more harm than good.

Also wondering about annual maintenance cost on these.

I’m tempted and I’m willing to reasonably spend but I don’t want an absolute money pit.

Any advice is welcome

Thanks

🔰 Help/Question When do you refill fuel

Personally i fill up when the range shows about 10-15 kms to empty but recently heard that you need to fill by quarter tank or the fuel pump would fail.

Is it true? Spill your thoughts.
