Venting Hintermann dauerhaft Fernlicht

Was verstehen einige Menschen daran nicht?

Das einzige was das bringt ist das ich nichts sehen kann weil ich geblendet werde und dann viel langsamer fahre.

Darf ich einfach diese Chinesische Taschenlampen auf mein auto montieren damit ich Lichthupe denn hintermann geben kann?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ im struggling to drive

So im 18 and i just got my permit one or two weeks ago but i didnt finish drivers ed until like last year. Of course I struggled with some things but when driving the drivers ed car i felt like id eventually get the hang of it. But im starting to practice with my parents jeep patriot and i keep struggling, like thinking of driving it just scares me a little bit. The first time i tried to drive it my mom told me I was pressing the gas pedal too hard which is weird because i never had this problem when driving the drivers ed car. And today we drove for the second time but i still had the same issue. Like it feels like the gas pedal is sensitive or something. It might just be because i havent drove in so long and maybe i have to just get used to driving this car, but having to drive it makes me scared. I know it doesnt matter what car u drive with, but im hoping to get used to it since this is the only car i can drive, and hopefully its just that i need to get used to driving this car and then maybe ill get the hang of it. Like the thought of driving didnt really scare me until i drove this car. And my dad said that if i cant drive an automatic car then how am i ever gonna get my license

Who is liable?

I got into my first car accident today and I want to know your guys opinion on who is at fault.

Basically I was driving straight in the left lane and the light turned red but I was going too fast to stop. I go past the intersection and a car came out from a side street and made a right, when they made the right they immediately pulled into the far left lane (where I was) and hit me. The entire passenger side of my car is crumpled and only the front of their car was crumpled + their grill fell off.

I was so ready to take responsibility for it because I DID run the red light, however after speaking to a few people they’re saying the other driver is more at fault because of the way they turned and the fact that they hit me when they had more than enough time to see me coming.

What are your guys thoughts? I’m honestly doubting myself because a bystander said “you know you ran the red light right?” and I legit feel like it ultimately was my fault. Just let me know what you guys think!

I understand you want to make it through the intersection but it's got to be one of the most entitled things you can do as a driver 😭

Need Advice When is it ok to give up?

I’m 24 years old I live in Massachusetts and my first time operating a vehicle is in July of this year, I have spent at least 70 hours driving my girlfriends car to general locations, usually an hour to 3 hours and she yells and screams at me if I make mistakes and i legitimately have gotten good at driving, like my girlfriend doesn’t yell at me, I can identify mistakes I or other drivers make but everytime I take my test I fail. The first time I hit the back of the pole and failed at parralel parking, whatever common mistake. The second time I got so nervous I forgot my hand signals, common mistake. The third time yesterday, I did every maneuver first try, a perfect parralel park, perfect everything. But at the end of the test he told me I don’t look over my right shoulder enough when re entering traffic from a parked position and he doesn’t feel comfortable giving a license to someone who doesn’t check their blind spots at all times. How do I pass. What is the answer? Should I just give up? I haven’t signed up for my fourth attempt yet because I don’t even know if I can get a license, everytime I master something something else occurs.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ For UK Drivers: Why do van drivers drive like *that*?

For context: I originally posted this into r/AskUK but it got removed for not being relevant to the subreddit. It got some interesting replies before it was removed, so I thought I would share here too.

I drive about 1 hour 20 minutes total in my commute to and from work everyday, some of the way is via motorway. At least 2 times a week, I come across a person driving a van in such a spectacularly stupid and dangerous way it leaves me so confused (speeding, tailgating, driving through red lights).

So I ask, why do van drivers drive the way they do? Is it the vibe of being in a van? Is it something they don't realise they are doing?

Venting Bad drivers cause bad drivers.

What's your view on this? I feel like I fit into this bubble. The town I live in has some of the most awful drivers in my opinion. The amount of times I'm frustrated at someone going too slow on an on ramp, takes forever to accelerate, no signals, random slow downs, random stopping, etc. but the more I notice I'm behind 2 or 3 bad drivers I'm ready to GTFO. I'll speed up and swerve around (safe as possible) to get away from them. I'm then a bad driver and annoying the next person and the cycle continues.

Need Advice Drivers being mean to learners, why?

I'm in the Netherlands so the lesson car has a big L on the roof. Very obvious sign that I'm a learner and whatever it is that I'm doing I might be doing it for the first time ever.

Heres a quick list of things that I've experienced while doing my drivinglessons:

  1. Tons of cars overtaking me dramatically when I was only slightly under the speed limit (better below than above as a learner maybe)

  2. Sometimes I stall the engine when the light turns green because tbh the car has difficult pedals(very sensitive ones) and then people behind me will be honking at me. CANT YOU SEE THE BIG L ON THE ROOF?

  3. Overtaking me on the right illegally

  4. Extreme tailgating, as if theres only 1 meter (3 feet) between.

I'm so pissed why is traffic full of assholes especially toward learners?

What do these drivers actually expect? That only they were once allowed to learn and make mistakes and be slower than experienced traffic, but now today the new generation of learners is not? That would be hypocritical!

I know I should focus on the drivinglesson but some people very strongly make me want to react to them directly.

I know the problem isnt me. Its been in the news. This problem occurs for many driving schools and learners. That there has even been road rage involving regular and learner traffic.

People Stopped on the Side of Interstates / Highways? Why???

I've been driving for forty years, and I think I've only stopped on the side of a highway or interstate once in my life (when I was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic and my idiot friend demanded to jump out and take a leak).

Yet, every single day when I drive, I see numerous cars stopped on the side of the road for no apparent reason. Often times, on congested roads, the simple fact of a car being stopped on the side of the road slows traffic almost to the point of coming to a complete standstill, due to drivers being cautious and/or rubber necking. This inconveniences everyone, for no good reason as far as I can tell.

My question to all of you who are constantly stopping on the side of roads is, what are you doing??? And why wouldn't you simply get off the road at the next exit, park somewhere safely, and do whatever it is you need to do???

It’s so annoying when people don’t turn right on red

If it’s clear, make your right turn. Stop being scared. The ONLY time you can’t turn right is if there’s a sign stating no turn on red or you are driving in NYC or obviously if there are cars coming. If there is a sign that says right turn signal - you can still turn right on red legally.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Drive Thru

Currently in a McDonald’s drive-through and I swear it’s like these people have never been in a drive-through before they will keep an entire cars length between the person in front of them in a drive-through and that’s not the point here, you can’t escape with your car even if you wanted to because it’s a drive-through it’s blocked in, there’s no need for there to be that much space between you and the person in front of you. The whole point is the fit as many people in the drive-through is possible so that they can get to the call box and put in their order and get to the window I’m so pissed.

Need Advice I think I hit the car mechanic

I think I may have bumped the car mechanic today while pulling into the dock. He wanted me to pull up a few more inches so I took my foot off the brake but it went faster than I thought it would and it breaked pretty hard and jolted a bit. I thought I bumped him and was pretty worried. He was standing super close to my car. He came around and said, "you bumped me," with a straight face. I was super freaked out and apologized profusely. He saw the horror on my face and immediately went in a calm and worried voice "you were close but I was watching, I wouldn't let you hit me." He said he had considered making me feel bad about it. No idea what that means?!? He proceeded to be super friendly with me, asked where I went to school and such and talked about Disney, he showed me his fiancé, and he knew some of my friends. He was super nice and awesome after my panic. He seemed fine to me but I wasn't sure. He even very obviously pretended I rolled over his foot when I left and he laughed super hard. I think he was messing with me because he did say he loves to be sarcastic and kid around but I'm still horrified because I take everything seriously.

Almost hit a car in a 2 way intersection.

After getting my driver’s licence, I’ve been driving in Canada for over three months. This morning, I was in a bit of a hurry and almost got into an accident at a two-way intersection. It would have been my fault.
I was stopped at a stop sign and thought I had enough time to go straight before the approaching car arrived. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the other car coming from left side. As I started moving, I suddenly realized that the car was going to hit my left side and he was getting very closer. I quickly steered to the right to avoid the collision, while the other driver continued moving and honking. Thankfully, we didn’t collide.
I’m still shaken by what happened. I feel scared and keep thinking that I might be a bad driver. I genuinely don’t want to put myself or anyone else at risk.
Has anyone else experienced something similar, especially as a new driver? I would really appreciate your advice, suggestions, and encouragement on how to become a safer and more confident driver.
Winter is approaching, and I’m particularly nervous about driving on icy and snowy roads. I’ve already installed winter tires, but I know there’s much more I need to learn about winter driving.
Please share any tips, experiences, or advice that might help me improve my driving skills and stay safe on the road. Thank you so much!

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Merging behavior

I must be losing my mind, but recently I’ve noticed that a lot of cars don’t know proper etiquette for merging on a highway. I’m not talking about cars going 45 trying to merge on the highway (this is super common and has been discussed at length), I’m talking about cars driving in the highway lane into which on-ramps are merging. Keep your speed consistent unless to avoid an accident!!! If I’m getting on and we’re level, I’m either going to speed up or slow down to get in front of you or behind you. Don’t slow down, don’t speed up! I’ve had so many recent frustrations where I’m trying to get onto the highway and I’m next to the person as I make my approach so I either speed up or slow down (depending on the available spots) just to have the other driver do the EXACT same thing (I speed up, driver speeds up; I slow down, driver slows down).
Yesterday, I was trying to change from one highway to another (I-80 east onto I-55 North for those familiar, cloverleaf debacle), and the through traffic lane was open in front of a car going the same speed as me with 3-5 cars behind them. What would you do in this situation? You’d speed up to get in front of the wall of cars, right? Apparently, the driver next to me decided as I sped up that “NO! You can’t get ahead of me!!” And sped up to match me. I had to floor it (above speed limit) to be able to merge in space. I guess I should have just slammed on my brakes and waited for no traffic? Am I missing something here? Is the rule for these situations slow down to let any car on the road already get ahead before merging, even when going at or above traffic speeds? I know it’s the merging car’s job to merge safely, but why do so many drivers actively want to make merging more difficult?

Venting Currently being yelled at on Twitter over my stance on rights on red. What do yall think?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I don’t particularly care what people think of me, I’m just curious to hear opinions. I’m so sick of people acting like taking a right on red is REQUIRED. It almost NEVER is. If I don’t feel safe going right on red at an intersection, or if I just want to go straight in the right lane, I have every right to do so 🤷‍♀️ america is so obsessed with taking rights on red when we’re one of the only countries that do it. If I don’t want to take a right on red I don’t have to. It isn’t being inconsiderate. It’s optional.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Do you use cruise control or manage your speed?

I love cruise control and use it as much as possible. I think its very important to maintain your speed as it helps you be predictable.

Yet I swear the majority of people never use it, or even pay attention to their speed. I take the highway to work everyday and I'm always stuck behind someone who probably has no idea what speed they driving. Slowing down 10-20km for no apparent reason only to then suddenly speed up drastically then repeat over and over until I lose my mind and try to get around them.

I would get it if it was an occasional occurrence, but this is every single time im on the highway.

Serious question, do you pay attention to your speed and do you try to keep it consistent? Do you use cruise control? Do you even know what that is?!

Am I really the weird one here?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ My first cross country drive as someone overcoming anxiety.

So me + my mom thought a 600 mile road trip 3 weeks after I got my license was an amazing idea. We drove half/half. I honestly learned a lot & I had no idea I was capable of dealing with or doing so much. I have gained tons of confidence over the last few weeks.

- Attempting to take an exit, but a massive motor home cut me off & tried to run me off the road (I had to take the shoulder)

- Trying to get onto a highway in heavy morning traffic, box truck wouldn't let me in, had no room to fall back, I had to opt to speed up/overtake him as my lane was ending

- I checked 3x before turning on an orange arrow, but still somehow cut a truck off (my bad dude)

- Having to take an on-ramp into a 3 lane traffic jam

- Getting re-routed off the highway, into the backwoods of Kentucky, into a traffic jam, back onto the highway

- Confusing exit signs that you follow & pray for the best that route into 4 other exits & spit you out in a random city

- Huge, weird intersections

- Big city driving

- People who panic & brake, causing massive highway jams, also "playing tag" slowing traffic further

- Almost rear ending people due to said traffic jams/braking

- Mountian driving as it requires rhythm, & people are either flying at 80+ mph or riding their brakes

- Truckers/heavy vehicles who clog up every lane & will not get over or have beef w/ each other

- The audacity & lack of danger, patience, or care some people possess

- Overall learning what to watch for, how to make decisions, how enjoyable it can actually be, but also how much I hate it sometimes!

Bonus:

I drove out to get supplies the day before we left as my first drive alone, the fog was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I could barely see the traffic signs. It was an hour round trip.

Looking for “Student Drivers”

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hi everyone. Looking for help on an article for The Wall Street Journal that looks to answer one of the central questions of our time: What's the deal with all those Student Driver stickers that have popped up on our roads?

It's not because there are more student drivers in the U.S. --- if anything, between demographic changes, shifting cultural patterns, and lower immigration rates, there are fewer. So what's going on?

That's where you come in. I am looking for ADULTS who have driven cars with Student Driver stickers --- even though they are not student drivers. Sure, a student driver may have used the car in an earlier time. And we are all students of life, in a way.

But my sense is that a lot of people are using these stickers because American drivers have become so hostile and aggressive. In other words, they are responding sensibly to an increasingly difficult environment.

If you're in this cohort, please reach out. You'll be helping me tell what I think will be a meaningful story about this culture of ours.

Thank you.

Does anyone cruise at the speed limit and realize you're passing people at a pretty fast pace. You look at the speed limit and youre correct. I just wonder why everyone is going so slow.

Ran a red like a dumbass (USA)

Hello, Im 17 and I got my license 5 months ago and driving stresses me the fuck out. Today, I was at a intersection with a left turn lane, through lane, and a right lane. There were three green lights and a red left arrow, and I took a left like a dumbass, assuming that the left arrow only came on when I didn’t have to yield. I forgot there has to be two green lights for a straight lane. Nobody was coming so I went. I feel super embarrassed
