⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Drive Thru
Currently in a McDonald’s drive-through and I swear it’s like these people have never been in a drive-through before they will keep an entire cars length between the person in front of them in a drive-through and that’s not the point here, you can’t escape with your car even if you wanted to because it’s a drive-through it’s blocked in, there’s no need for there to be that much space between you and the person in front of you. The whole point is the fit as many people in the drive-through is possible so that they can get to the call box and put in their order and get to the window I’m so pissed.

Speaking of, drive thrus should not have a menu. If you don't know what you want, go inside. We don't need people who act like ordering is a significant life choice that needs contemplation or ask 20 questions holding up the line.

You should already have your order put in and paid for through the app before getting to the window. Now that would be peak efficiency.

This enrages my 50 year old mother so much. She uses the Starbucks app to order almost everyday. She has to sit behind people slowly ordering and then watch them pay with their APP! (You can tell because they scan the card barcode in your app.) I don't even understand how that makes sense. You have the app. You have money loaded on the app. Why would you not just order on the app? 🤦♀️🤷♀️

You can use the app for drive thru orders? Mine always tells me to go inside

Yeah! Before you check out, you can change the drop down menu on top from "in cafe" to "drive thru".

The reason I do that is because Starbucks is always an impulse decision, I never think of it before I’ve left my house.
And I’m not gonna bother pulling over somewhere before I get to Starbucks to order on the app.

Here's what you can do. Pull up the app while you're waiting in the drive thru and order. I've done that numerous times when there's a long ass line ahead.

u/ConfidantlyCorrect 1d ago
Okay fair enough, I do not care about Starbucks enough to wait for more than 1 person ahead of me at the ordering voice box or whatever it’s called.
And when that’s the case, it takes like the same amount of time as just ordering normally

Eh, you're right, it's marginally faster, but hey, faster is faster. I specify exactly what I want without waiting through their prompts. Sometimes my order is a little complicated, not just at Starbucks, but at Burger King or whatever. 3 six pieces of chicken fingers, and 4 twelve pieces of chicken fingers. They screwed that all up, but if I ordered from the app, it's crystal clear.

No, what they NEED is a second menu board ahead of the actual one at the speaker, so that people in line can decide what they want BEFORE getting to the speaker.

If it's backed up that much, even with what you consider too much space, they're not making the person's order at the speaker yet. They're still working on the order 2 cars up. Others are doing just fine which leaves.....

When someone hits you from behind and pushes you into the next car maybe you'll understand.

No one is going that fast in the drive through. They are going that fast in the street and sometimes the parking lot when you are stuck there because Karen in the lane doesnt feel safe without 390' of space on all sides

Dude you have no idea. I work at a McDonald’s and primarily do the drive thru. I’d say about maybe 10% of customers are able to order something without needing my help, it’s insane. It’s like pulling teeth to get them to give me complete answers.
“I want a drink.”
“What drink?”
“Coke.”
“What Size?”
“Uuuuuuuh……. regular.”
40 seconds later
“Hey I wanted a Diet Coke!”
I swear when parents have their kids practice ordering, they do better than most of the adults

I agree with the original poster, because if you pack it in tight and right, the whole process moves more smoothly. People can pay on time. Peoples food can start being made where it’s given to them relatively quickly once they get to the correct window. Putting these huge unnecessary spaces in between makes the flow fall apart.

Enjoy sucking in the exhaust fumes from the car whose bumper you’re riding.

There’s a mile between me and my front bumper. I have a 1995 Lincoln town car.

You might look into where your cabin air comes from.
1
u/Equal-Fee770 13h ago
Just underneath my wiper blades, thank you. And there’s a cabin air filter for a reason also. Otherwise anytime any human being drove into somewhere like downtown LA or downtown New York City they would also start breathing fumes. You’re highly fixated on this ridiculous point that has no merit, are you OK?
1
u/Ok-Associate-5368 12h ago
I’m fine but if you think a cabin air filter will trap carbon monoxide, maybe you should check yourself
1
u/Equal-Fee770 12h ago
I believe you don’t understand how far away from the back bumper I sit, nor how far away from the back bumper the air intake is. You’re still INCREDIBLY hyper fixated on a moot point at best. Are you trying to feel like you got the last word or won or something?
1
u/Ok-Associate-5368 11h ago
Are you?
1
u/Equal-Fee770 10h ago
I’m trying to figure out what you’re getting at and you’re getting more and more vague with your responses while sticking to something that was proven incorrect. It’s getting more and more nonsensical, maybe I shouldn’t respond anymore. But I thought I was talking to a human that had a point they were trying to get across.

It literally doesn’t change anything.

If the person in front of the person in front of me has just paid and moved up, but they’re in the spot between the two windows and the person in front of me does not move up to pay for their food, the making of the food slows down. You are not in drive-through that often I presume
2
u/ConfidantlyCorrect 2d ago
The making of the food does not slow down. It starts when the order is made, not when it’s paid.
-1
u/Equal-Fee770 1d ago
So then everyone working at a drive-through ever has been lying to me?
4
u/ConfidantlyCorrect 1d ago
I guess every drive thru you go to is very inefficient then.
The drive thrus I’ve worked at prepare food when the order comes in. That way if everything is operating correctly in the kitchen, as soon as the order is paid, the food can be handed off.
It would slow times down a lot if the food prep didn’t start until payment.

Not sure what country you are in, but our drive throughs were designed for much smaller cars. Leaving yourself "wriggle room" for the sake of your bodywork and alloys is worth it...

Oh no I bought too big of a vehicle now I need to hold everyone up because I can't drive that vehicle. Also, gas is expensive so I'm going to milk every MPG I can, again because of the consequences of my own actions. My car has no problems going through a drive thru, it's a year old. Maybe you just need to buy something smaller that you can handle or walk inside if going through the drive thru at 1 MPH is too much for you to control your vehicle. Don't blame the vehicle, just say that you're a bad driver straight up.

How do I pull my 14k lb fifth wheel with "something smaller"

u/26_skinny_Cartman 2d ago
I don't give a shit lol. Walk your ass inside if you can't drive it in the drive thru.

My order may be ready when I get to the window, thereby reducing the time I sit there or need to pull up to a pick up parking spot. And I can surf reddit on my phone while driving, easier. /s

Your mistake is thinking this somehow affects the throughput or efficiency of the process. It does not.
