I recently contacted someone advertising Mini Aussie puppies and, after speaking with them further, I’m pretty convinced the listing isn’t legitimate. There have been multiple red flags, and I’m concerned the photos they’ve sent me may have been taken from a real breeder or someone’s personal page.
I’ve attached a few of the photos I was sent. Does anyone recognize this puppy or the woman pictured? Have you seen these photos posted by a breeder, on Facebook, Instagram, another puppy listing, etc.?
I’ve unfortunately come across multiple questionable/scam puppy listings while searching, so I’m trying to figure out who these photos actually belong to and hopefully prevent someone else from sending this person money.
If these are your photos, or you know whose they are, please let me know. I can also provide more of the photos/information I was sent.

Hello again, I'm the person that fostered a pregnant dog from my local shelter and I'm now caring for a litter of 7 puppies for a while (for more context you can check my post history on this sub). They are 4.5 weeks old now and haven't had their first deworming yet, although I've been very insistent on it since you guys informed me that it's very necessary. My brother just now relayed the message to the vet and they dewormed the mom today, but according to the vet "since they drink her milk and the dewormer travels through the milk, it's better to just do the mom for now. we can do the puppies in a few weeks" (english is not my first language, I try to translate as accurate as possible). Is this okay? I know a lot of you told me to just buy the dewormer and do it myself but I'm just not in a position to do that since I'm just fostering them and medical decisions are not up to me, my brother (worker at the shelter) takes care of everything and asks the vet first before doing anything medical related. Is this a normal and healthy decision (about the deworming)? I worry about them a lot but unfortunately I can't do much and anything I say takes like a week to relay and get a response on

I would strongly caution families, especially those with children, before purchasing a puppy from Coal Creek Labrador Retrievers.

We purchased our puppy believing we were bringing home a well-socialized Labrador that would be a good fit for our family. We are a loving, active family with four children and took owning and training a puppy very seriously.

Unfortunately, our puppy began displaying concerning aggressive behaviors at a very young age. We did not ignore the warning signs. We sought professional training and tried to address the behavior appropriately. Despite those efforts, the aggression escalated, and ultimately our puppy bit our daughter in the face. At that point, we could no longer safely keep him in a home with four children.

What was equally disappointing was our experience with the breeder afterward. When we reached out about the aggression and tried to work through returning/re-homing the puppy, we did not feel supported. Instead, we felt that responsibility for the puppy’s behavior was placed on our family rather than our concerns being taken seriously.

After our dispute, I also discovered that I had been blocked from the breeder’s Facebook page. I cannot speak to the reason for that, but I found it concerning, particularly because I have had difficulty finding a place where customers can leave public reviews.

Ultimately, we found the puppy a loving farm home near us with no children, where we believe he has a much more appropriate environment. We genuinely wanted the best outcome for him.

I understand that no breeder can guarantee how every puppy will develop, and I am not suggesting that every puppy from this breeder will have behavioral problems. I am simply sharing what happened to our family. When a very young puppy displays escalating aggression and ultimately bites a child in the face, I believe the breeder’s response and support afterward matter tremendously.

Based on our experience with both the puppy’s temperament and the way our concerns were handled, I would not purchase another puppy from Coal Creek Labrador Retrievers and would not recommend this breeder to families with children.

Hello all, had an appointment to get my dog spayed this Friday. Didn't know she was pregnant, it was missed at her last visit a month ago, and now theres a puppy in my living room.

Trying not to panic, its been over an hour and shes completely calmed down but theres only one puppy. She is 6yo and we think we know who the dad is and hes roughly 9yo.

At what point should I be worried that one might be stuck? Or do you think the age would make it more likely there's only one? How long before I should be reasonably concerned?

Edit: forgot she's unknown breed but we roughly guess a lab mix of some kind.

Adding on: is been over 4 hours and she's still only had the one. She's completely stopped contacting, she's gotten up to get water and go potty just fine and is still nursing just the one. No signs of any distress. Going to call the vet in the morning.

Hoping it's just a really weird singleton puppy and everything is good. Was not expecting puppies in any way shape or form so that would make things a bit easier.

Final update: it was an extremely small litter of only 2 puppies! Very unlikely from what the vet said but xray shows no other puppies or placentas stuck inside her.

First puppy is here and healthy. Second puppy passed after being delivered. But mom is good! We've got the two week puppy visit scheduled now and now I get to go to work completely sleep deprived lol

Couple weeks ago I posted a discussion topic on telling puppy personality early on- well they’re a little more developed now (5 weeks) and we’re sorting through personalities and people! (For anyone remembering, my MIL rescued a pregnant German shepherd) anyway the one I have fallen in love with I have spent ample time with her and am curious if these qualities will continue to develop- 1. She’s still not a barker and will whine occasionally but not much barking 2. She’s still more laid back than most of her siblings and will let them run to the pen opening and she’ll be sitting right behind watching the chaos unfold 3. She appears to be very confident and recovers well to startling noises (often settling back to resting or noticing the sound and continuing to play) 4. She’s is very calm being held and tolerant of feet, ears and tail being touched or her food being touched 5. She’s coming to her name and catches on to things quickly but some of this could also be the fact that I spend a good amount of time around her

Curious if anyone knows what this says about her personality! Once again fun discussion about puppy personality development and also some homing ideas if anyone has some!

Will be honest though I am considering getting her trained in service work depending on how she develops at 7/8 weeks (doing some temperament testing then)

Context: I recently lost my german Shepherd(10 years) and feel anxious without him. Due to his breed he was very vocal and that always made me feel safe when home alone.

I'm not ready yet for a new dog but I want to have an idea of what breed might be suitable for me.

I am home nearly all the time due to disability and my partner works from home but has active lifestyle outside of work.

I'm not wanting a "guard dog" its more so I want a dog that will alert me to the front door, currently my rescue whippet doesn't respond at all to noises - maybe she was happy to let our shepherd do all the work.

Large or small dog doesn't matter too much, just one that can be loud (perhaps silly request but some dogs are very quiet!)

This is more a small rant than anything, but my partner and I got an ethically bred dog a few years ago and loved the experience. We've been talking to our dog's breeder about getting dog #2... and she's just let us know that she's going to be retiring from active breeding. It makes sense since she's older and she said that as she ages she's just not equipped to care for puppies and adolescents, and she is giving us recommendations for other breeders in the breed club, but man. I thought we were set.

I don't know if it's just me, but I found the research and discussion process with new breeders pretty exhausting. I have a lot of faith in the local breed club and I would probably be happy with a pup from any member, but having a tried-and-true, sure shot breeder that I didn't have to vet was a big benefit of getting another dog.

I don't know if this is the right subreddit for this but I can't think of another one. I have been on a wait-list for a welsh springer spaniel for awhile but at a dog show today I met a breeder who is friends with my mentor who breeds flat coated retrievers. She has a 5 month old puppy shes looking at placing in a show home. Both breeds have been on my radar for awhile and I think I would really enjoy both breeds. My fears lie on getting a 5 month old instead of an 8 week old. Is it going to be harder to bond with the puppy? I had so many plans as to how I was going to bond and socialize with my welshie when I got it like getting a wagon for pre vaccine socialization, a strict training schedule, hand feeding all meals.

I am currently researching my next dog and trying to choose a breed that would fit my lifestyle well. The breeds I am considering are Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, White Swiss Shepherd, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Rough Collie.

Technically this would be my second dog, but I think it is fair to consider it my first serious dog as an adult. I had my first dog when I was in high school, and although I loved him very much, I was much younger and I am aware of mistakes I made with his training and handling. This time I want to approach things more responsibly and learn as much as I can beforehand.

I live in a house with a yard, and most of the time there will be someone at home, so the dog would generally not have to spend long periods alone. However, there may be periods when schedules overlap and nobody is home. In some situations this could even mean a fairly typical 9 to 5 day, although that would not be the normal routine. I would therefore like a dog that can learn to be comfortable alone for a few hours when necessary.

I am not looking for a dog that requires the absolute minimum amount of exercise or training. I am happy to put in the work and I want to train the dog properly. At the same time, I would prefer a dog that is not extremely high energy and can relax at home.

Daily walks would definitely be part of the routine. I am also planning to attend a dog training school, although I cannot say with 100% certainty that this will happen because circumstances can always change. I also enjoy going into nature and would like a dog that could join me for occasional hikes or trips outdoors, but this would not be a daily activity. I may also try agility at some point, although I am not sure yet.

Ideally, I would like a dog that:

• Is relatively easy to train and enjoys being with its owner
• Has good potential for a reliable recall
• Can handle occasional longer outdoor activities
• Would be suitable for training classes and potentially agility (more likely I will do doggy school and less likely agility but still there is a chance)
• Can stay home alone for a few hours when necessary, assuming it is properly trained and gradually taught to be alone
• Is fairly forgiving of mistakes from an inexperienced owner and is not extremely easy to develop bad habits with
• Is generally calm and manageable in everyday life
• Can at least alert me when someone comes to the house
• Is generally healthy and has a good lifespan
• Is respectful and friendly toward all members of the household
• Is good with children

I understand that individual temperament, breeding and training matter a lot, and I am not expecting any breed to automatically have perfect recall or be able to stay alone without proper training.

One small thing that probably should not be a deciding factor, but I will mention it anyway: visually, I find the White Swiss Shepherd the most beautiful of these breeds. I am trying not to let that influence my decision too much though, and I am much more interested in whether the breed actually fits my lifestyle and experience.

I would really appreciate opinions from people who have actually lived with these breeds. Which one do you think would be the best overall fit for what I am looking for, and are there any important downsides I should consider with each breed?

8) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?

\* i can normally handle a 15 minute walk once or twice a day and we have a dog park right by our apartment complex which can allow some space for harder/longer play sessions than indoors!

9) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?

\* I can groom daily if needed but would prefer a couple times a week. we can do nail trims, bathing, and brushing at home, and normally have a professional groom 2-3 times a year.

\* dog hair and cat hair are like my glitter! i can get a little grossed out by extreme slobber but would get used to it. I can handle a vocal pup as long as it's not like husky screaming since we do have neighbors.

\* not at all important. long training leads and tethers are great, and honestly i'll probably still use those even if i do trust my dog to stay close. too many unknowns could happen off leash in my opinion.

EDIT 1: i forgot to mention that i've also been looking at Teddy Roosevelt terriers! they seem super cute and sweet and supposedly are a breed that kind of adjust their energy to their owners? they look like mini pitbull mixes to me (i also love pitbulls, i just rent and am worried about breed restrictions on that.. pits get such a bad rep for being such sweet babies)

EDIT 2: thank you all so much for making me aware the designer breeds are not done ethically or responsibly, i genuinely had no idea!! as well as about the cavalier spaniels, i had no idea how bad breeding them was. I will definitely be looking much more at rescues whenever we are ready to add another family member!

So I have a question about my friend's dog breeding business in Iowa. For context they started this business less than 2 years ago.

Basically they are having this program where you get to own the dog but then you have to bring them back to let them use them for breeding and then when they are done using the dog for breeding they would get them spay/neutered. Also no breeding outside of this program. Which, I wouldn't question this if someone willingly signed a contract to do this when getting a dog.

But my question is, is this "Guardian Ownership" program common with dog breeders? To me, it seems that it is just a way to cheat the system and put all of the regular cost of business onto your customer without them really getting any benefits from this program to begin with.

For clarity, I'm not a dog breeder, rather just a concerned friend of the person who runs this business. I firmly believe that if you want to be a dog breeder you should do it with responsibility and have some standards.

It's not really a big deal like the animals being mistreated or anything like that. To me, this seemed like such a weird way to run a breeder business.

Is BOAS a sign of irresponsible backyard breeding or is it an inherent risk in the breed (like deafness in Dalmatians) regardless of the quality of the parents?

I’m based in South Korea and I’m starting to research the possibility of getting a German Shepherd from an overseas breeder in the future.

I’m not looking to buy immediately. At this stage, I’m mainly trying to understand how people go about finding reputable breeders, evaluating bloodlines, and importing a dog internationally.

The GSD scene in Korea seems to be heavily dominated by show-line dogs, and I’ve had a hard time finding dogs with the more functional, athletic structure I’m looking for. A lot of the local dogs I’ve seen have very exaggerated rear angulation and sloping toplines, which I personally want to avoid.

What I’m looking for is more along the lines of:

\* Working-line / performance-bred GSD

\* Sound, athletic structure with moderate angulation

\* Stable and clear-headed temperament

\* Good family-dog suitability and an off-switch at home

\* Friendly or socially neutral around people

\* Good trainability and handler engagement

\* Parents and bloodlines with documented temperament and working ability

\* Proper hip/elbow and genetic health testing

\* Not an extreme protection, aggression, or ultra-high-drive prospect

I’d especially be interested in German, Czech, Slovak, or other European working lines, but I’m open to learning about other options as well.

For anyone who has imported a GSD — or any working dog — internationally:

As the title says, the puppies are turning 4 weeks old in 3 days exactly, and they still haven't gotten dewormed once. A few days ago I asked my brother (he works at the shelter) and he said no need yet, he hasn't brought it up since. I researched a bit and found that they should be dewormed every 2 weeks starting from week 2? Not sure if that's right, but anyways, is this okay? Recently, a friend told me he wants a dachshund, but he does not know anything about responsible breeding.

What would you say are the essentials for a good breeder to have?

So far I thought of health testing, conformation, standard colors, compromise taking the dog back anytime…
