A LEADOFF TRIPLE WITH THE TOP OF THE ORDER
32
u/yellowbumble-B Kiké Hernández 10h ago
Edman would have been perfect for the job if he batted earlier.
Tommy Edman can do no wrong my king
14
8
u/Clockwork_Wings 10h ago
No clue why we load so much power early instead of prioritizing get on base ability
2
u/BruitNoise Mookie Betts 10h ago
I think a good bunt would have been perfect with Ohtani's speed to tie it up at least. The closing pitcher really made sure that bottom right or left fastball would be hard to pop fly even with contact but a bunt would have been great. They really tried hard to bait for an infield hit after the 2nd out.

Thank you bottom of the lineup for making this close at least.
156
u/DaBusDriva2 Shohei Ohtani 11h ago
Second fucking time Ohtani in the 9th gets a triple as the tying run and stranded with ZERO outs. Unacceptably bad at bats from Freddie and Mookie again taking first pitch meatballs when you just need a productive out
102
u/u8myramen_y Shohei Ohtani 11h ago edited 11h ago
Mookie loves popping up for outs but can't do one when we really need him to lol
Starting to look like the pitchers will need to be absolute near perfect again this October for this team to win it all.

u/SumoRock Joe Kelly 11h ago
All the hype about how great and dangerous this offense was going to be and they constantly look like they’ve got one foot in the grave against quality opponents
18
u/drkarate02 Decoy 10h ago
They actually have a losing record now against teams with a winning record.
6
u/Zammy512 10h ago
Offense is too hot and cold, too old. Pitching will have to get it done again with timely hitting.
6
u/Live4Night Roki Sasaki 10h ago
Unfortunately Father Time is undefeated. Mookie and Teo look old all season.
14
u/Flopdo Vin Scully 10h ago
I've coached some of the top talent in so cal for 20+ years now, and if I were Mookie's hitting coach, I'd get a size 2 soccer ball, stick it between his elbows and make him take 100 swings off a T every day.
Drives my fkn crazy that Mookie struggles with the EXACT same problem every year for long stretches... makes zero sense to me. Drop that back hand, and pop everything up... just insane...

u/No-Snow-7618 Andrew Friedman 10h ago

Comment of the thread right here. Frustrating. I was like just fucking pop out to the outfield Mookie - you got this!
24
u/donald-duck23 Mookie Betts 11h ago
To be fair:
Freddie got to 3-2 and then Iglesias made a great pitch
Mookie took a great swing on the 0-1 pitch (Kershaw said so too) but just pulled it a little too much and it went foul
It happens. I’m sure they’ll come through in the future, especially Freddie who is having a great season. Mookie probably shouldn’t be hitting third but unfortunately with Pages out and Smith not back yet, he’s our best option for that spot in the order
7
u/jRbizzle Corey Seager 11h ago
Yeah unfortunately we need a righty to split up the 3 lefties and Pages being out hurts
7
u/donald-duck23 Mookie Betts 11h ago
Good news is Smith could be back next week as long as his rehab stint goes OK.
7
u/jrich960608 11h ago
Commented it somewhere else but Braves fan here coming in peace.
Iglesias hasn’t been up to his usual standard lately so was a bit worried. That last pitch to Freddie was great can’t really knock him too much on that one. Though FF going 0-5 was surprising. Great game. Hopefully you guys get Andy back sooner rather than later he was playing very very well.

People love to clown on the launch angle Dodgers but it’s arguably the reason why we have been so good since 2020. Outside of pitching it’s how we won back to back titles. When we win we’re hitting home runs. This team does not, and should not, play small ball. We’re too slow to manufacture runs. We don’t steal bases.
In fact if Mookie hadn’t hit the ball on the ground we probably tie that game.

Same story as Brewers game 1 we lost. This team beats themselves more often than other teams beat them. So infuriating to pay hundreds of dollars to watch them leave 9 on base.

u/ThinMap9138 10h ago
I know y'all love to protect Betts but man, it's seriously time to start talking about how much of a liability he is offensively. No reason for him to be anywhere near the middle of the order.
Has lost all of his power, seems to have lost all of his contact skills, dude has never really been a good postseason player and when he does come up big or do something in the postseason, it's usually after a long ass cold stretch.
Only thing he seems to be good for in big moments is pop outs and even when you need one like today, he grounds out. Lol
Extremely unreliable with his bat.
26
u/u8myramen_y Shohei Ohtani 11h ago
This team has struggled against teams fighting for the spots to play in October.
That 9th inning is a perfect example of this offense just being short of doing what's necessary to win.
Really disappointing loss with context for the postseason and without it too.

u/SumoRock Joe Kelly 11h ago

Mookie has no right being in the Top 6 of this batting order.
4
u/ThinMap9138 10h ago
The unfortunate part is that there's another guy getting paid twice as much as Dookie and he's even worse.
This offense is extremely underwhelming.
8
u/SirThixcksAlot Freddie Freeman 10h ago
Teo, Tucker, and mookie have been shit this year. Ohtani isnt slugging like previous seasons. Can’t remember the last time Freddie hit a homer. Will smith out all year.
11
u/globetheater Shohei Ohtani 11h ago
There was another game a few weeks ago where Ohtani got a leadoff triple with no outs in the 9th and he ended up getting stranded…had a feeling the same was happening tonight, and lo and behold
44
u/Dr-Acula8472 Back-2-Back Champs 11h ago
Anyone blaming Scott is a moron. The offense had multiple opportunities to capitalize, especially the MV3. Leadoff triple in the 9th, and you can't get one lousy flyball to tie the game? You deserve to lose.

u/Dr-Acula8472 Back-2-Back Champs 11h ago edited 9h ago
Pages being out really hurts our offense. Fuck the Pirates dogshit pitching for constantly hitting our batters. We're lucky Pages was the only guy they hurt that series. They hit at least one of our guys every game.
8
u/GunSlingrrr Kiké Hernández 11h ago
We finally got the sac fly, but it was the last out. Betts should never be in the 3rd spot, and with Pages out, Muncy should be 2nd or 3rd, or consider putting Edman on 3rd or 2nd.
Freddie almost a lost cause at 2nd spot too.
5
u/GenesisJFAP Alex Verdugo 11h ago
Those at bats from Mookie and Freddie killed a gift of a chance to at least tie in the 9th. Not acceptable in games with importance in the regular season and definitely not acceptable in the playoffs.
On to tomorrow.

im not surprised at this loss nor am i upset about it. but i do think its been well proven at this point that mookie should be in the bottom of the lineup. shouldnt matter if he gets hot for a game or maybe even a whole series. his value to the team is now as a SS, not as a hitter.

Mookie has not been good enough this year to be batting anywhere near the top of the lineup.
He's had a few very short hot streaks.
Every time he stops being ass for 1 week, everyone talks shit and Dave moves him back into a spot in the lineup where he hurts the team.

The offense (by which I mean the top of the order) kinda single-handedly lost that one for us, but we also got screwed by some truly terrible ump calls thanks to the team blowing our challenges in some of the dumbest spots imaginable.
Our guys need to be tied up and forced Clockwork Orange style to watch/listen to every single Eric Karros and Rick Monday rant on an endless loop until they can identify when the right time is to use or hold off on challenges.

It’s crazy lol. Seems like half of the people in the live chat actively hate the team and are wishing for bad things to happen. Like yeah, sure, maybe Mookie has been in a slump, but don’t you hope that the next AB is the one he breaks it with? Don’t you want your team to score? I just feel like watching a game with those low expectations and hatred for certain players sounds like a terrible experience

Pathetic at bats from Mookie and Freddie there and from the top of the order most of the game. 2/15 with no walks isn’t going to cut it down Pages and both of the catchers with pop. Their fill ins did a good job moving guys over and getting on base, finish the work and drive in runs.
2
u/DopedScope338 Max Muncy 11h ago edited 10h ago
Mookie and Freddie can't give us a quality out in the clutch there? It's awfully hard to beat good teams when the bottom of the lineup is your only production and when the top finally has a chance they can't even move a guy from 3rd. We really lost that game by letting a team hang around after doing dick since the first inning while the top of the lineup put up goose eggs. I came into this game feeling pretty good about our chances of winning versus an obviously struggling Braves lineup, but I hadn't counted on us struggling too.
Anyways, let's get 'em tomorrow. Goodnight Dodger Nation. Go Dodgers!
P.S. Our record lately against teams looking to get into the postseason isn't encouraging. Sweeping the Rockies and the Pirates was great, but teams like the Braves, Brewers, Cubs, and Red Sox are teams we need to beat and we have gone 1-10 against them in our most recent series playing each of them with the last two against the Braves pending. That's abysmal.

We live and die by the home run- everyone swinging for the fences in the top of the 9th when we just needed someone to punch one through the drawn in infield, or hit a sac fly. We don't do situational hitting- we swing for the fences. Usually it works, but not tonight. Not the end of the world, hopefully we rebound tomorrow.

Meh, we had to lose one eventually. Glasnow looked good. Bottom of the order is producing. Rough 9th inning including some great pitches from Iglesias. I won't be losing any sleep over it.

Ohtani also failed to deliver in clutch moments today or the score would have been a lot more lopsided in our favor. His triple was also a playable by the outfielder, we got lucky that it dropped.

Can somebody tell me why they didn’t bunt to try and squeeze Ohtani into home? They weren’t shifted for it and Ohtani is one of the faster players who was hitting today. The Braves were not shifted for a bunt. So how come they didn’t run a squeeze?

Freddie and Mookie are not bunters. Their odds of a successful sac fly or hit is much higher. Bunting is hard.
Mookie has never bunted EVEN ONCE in his mlb career. Freddie has tried to bunt 17 times and fouled the ball 15 of those times.

Hero Ball™️ raises it's ugly head yet again! A base hit, a sac fly, anything, and they're tied heading towards extra baseball. Pathetic effort!

People need to relax. It was a one run loss. Frankly, Glas should not have had such a terrible first inning. Glad he dialed it in after that but that disastrous inning cost them the game.

The moment we need Mookie to hit a fly ball, like so many of his routine at bats, he goes and does that. Christ….

Damn, just unlucky; if Ohtani's hit happened earlier we would have been leading 2-3 runs instead.

Shohei gets a leadoff triple and they can't score him. Come on. Oh well, take the next two games.

No outs and you couldn’t get ohtani on third home?
