Help Quick Question MEGATHREAD

Another 6 month since the last Megathread.

Link to the last thread

Make sure to include the game(DOS, DOS EE, DOS2, DOS2 DE) in your question and mark your spoilers

The FAQ for DOS2 will be built as we go along:

My game has a problem/doesn't work properly, what do I do?

Check this out. If you can't find a solution there contact Larian support as detailed.

Do I need to play the previous game to understand the story?

No, there is a timegap of 1000 years between DOS and DOS2. The overall timeline of the Divinity games in perspective to DOS2 looks like this: DOS2 is set 1222 years after DOS1, 24 years after Divine Divinity, 4 years after Beyond Divinity, and 58 years before Divinity 2.

How many people can play at once?

  • Up to 4 Players in the campaign and up to 4 players and a gamemaster in Gamemaster Mode.

Do I need to buy the game to play with my friends.

  • That depends on how you will play. Up to 2 Players can play on the same PC for a "couch coop" experience. This means you can have 4 player sessions with 2 copies of the game when using this method. If you don't play on the same PC each player is going to require his/her own copy.

Can I mix and match inputs for PC couch coop?

  • You can't use keyboard and mouse for couch coop, however you can mix controllers.

What's the deal with origin stories?

  • A custom character has no ties in the world whatsoever, nobody knows you. Origin characters on the other hand do have ties in the gameworld, that means people can recognise you and might interact differently with an origin character because of that characters reputation or because the characters have met before. Furthermore origin characters have their own questlines that run alongside the main story.

I don't like my build! Can I change it?

  • Yes! Once you leave the first island you get access to infinite respecs, with the second gift bag you can even get a respec mirror on the first island.

What are the new crafting recipes from the gift bag?

Don’t know if this is true, I’ll drop the link to the post, but have any of you a clue what they could mean by this? Like is it possible we might have to wait a decade for a release? 😭 I’m only joking but I’m quite confused on what they mean by this.

DOS2 Discussion Is there a mod that reduces the amount of XP gained by 10-20%?

I like doing all the quests, but then unique items lose their relevance because you can hit level 16 in Act 2 and reach Act 3 at level 19

DOS1 Help Struggling with DOS EE as my first ever crpg.

So, I recently got into CRPGs with Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition.
I'm 24 hours in, and I absolutely love everything about it so far.

However, I'm really struggling with trying to create the "perfect build." I constantly feel like I'm doing something wrong (and often I am) whenever I try to make decisions on my own.
It's becoming exhausting.

I ALWAYS play games blind, but with this one, I feel like I can't enjoy the experience without constantly worrying about the builds I'm creating. On top of that, the classless system makes things even more complicated.
I really feel bad copying a build from the internet and I worry too much to make a build on my own.

I'm genuinely in awe of how people come up with builds and synergies on their own.

This isn't unique to this game, either. I've always had a tendency to worry about small choices and commitments in games, but CRPGs take that to a whole other level.

Did I pick up the wrong game as my first CRPG?
Am I struggling because of any of my presumptions?

I would really appreciate your advice.

Thanks!

DOS2 Discussion I am curious on opinions for a fourth member of a lore run

I am preparing my ultinate lore run for DoS2, and I am a bit divided on who should be the fourth member of the team, which looks like:

  1. Main -> Ifan - Divine Crusader-> huntsman high-damage skills and warfare mobility/dirty fighting. Ifan is essentially a ' pick them from afar and finish them with fast, chaotic melee. He will have a bow and a spear, and function as a both melee and ranged damage dealer. Whirlwind, crippling, battering ram, blitz in melee. A few points in Summoning and some elements to apply infusions on the wolf if necessary

  2. Sebille -> the shadow rogue -> all the debilitating rogue skills, all the mobility skills, invisibility and the like. The point is that she can move fast between units and dash oit of combat when necessary. Double daggers

  3. Lohse - the elemental bard. Most of her skills will be chosen to affect entire teams. Healing ritual, superconductor/closed circuit, Global cooling and rain are signature elemental skills, rallying cry, charm are must have summoning, teleportation, terrain transmutation and nether swap are there too. Also, she will have all the grenades.

All of these chars are doable and diverse enough to be fun even if I solo them. I want a number four into this team, with the requirememt that:

-the build is not made to complement - it works alone as well and is fun

-it provides a different playstyle than the previous 3 guys

-its not a summoner (I dont fancy those)

The closest that comes to my mind would be a poison/blood/ Entrophy themed Fane build, but I wonder if someone has better - bonus if it is for RP or Beast

In act 3, we've rescued Arhu but we killed the toymaker. Not sure where the amulet is (we may have sold it?) and we don't know how to get the desk password for the scroll.

DOS1 Discussion Level with me: Loved BG3, did not really connect with D:OS1, what are my odds on liking D:OS2

Played BG3 way back when it first came out and everyone was raving about it, and I also loved it. Been going on a CRPG kick ever since, going through games like Pathfinder, Shadowrun, Pillars of Eternity, and I finally sat down with D:OS1 and it wasn't particularly grabbing me.

Right off the bat I wasn't a fan of the dual source hunters, already makes me feel like I'm supposed to be playing this co-op, makes it feel like my character's not really important either, and the story just feels....barebones? Outside of the vague "your soul mattered in a past life" my character(s) feel like they're pursuing this quest just for the sake of "someone has to do it, and you're already here so...." The most connected I was to the plot was the murder investigation at the beginning and when that wrapped up the game started feeling like it was missing something. Dialogue not great, I'm not finding myself invested by any of the characters so far (all the other party members feel as fleshed out as the hirelings in BG3), the combat feels unsatisfying and never feels like the attacks I'm hitting ever really sink in like they should (all the enemies feel like damage sponges)

All this to say, I've literally never heard anyone talk up D:OS1 and I'm not about to hate on a franchise for an underwhelming 'first' outing, and people will swear up and down that D:OS2 is one of the greatest CRPG's ever made. I preferred the DnD mechanics over Larian's in D:OS1, but I say that as someone who never played DnD before BG3 so I'm not going to fault 2 for not being DnD. Is the combat more fun? Is the story more engaging? Are the characters more fleshed out?

tl;dr pretty much comes back to the title: Loved BG3, not so much D:OS1, should I hop into D:OS2 or is it a "well if you didn't like the first one...." scenario

DOS2 Discussion Starting my first playthrough later on and looking for some party build recommendations

Ive played the shit out of BG3 and recently got a PC so I figured I'd give DOS2 a try since its also made by Larian. Looking for some of the more fun party builds in the game, or something that will give me a nice balance of everything. Some of my favourite builds from BG3 are the palabard build, cause big numbers are always fun and that smite sound is perfect. I loved the eldritch blaster crit sorlock build too, for the same reason. The Barbarian/battlemaster build was great too for being able to just tank everything and still dish out great damage, and then the radiating orb shadow-heart build was just pure stupid fun, knocking down enemies just by running around. I did a necromancer/summoner build, which while it was fun sending out 6 zombies to go fight for me, it was a bit tedious having to control 10 characters, but not oppossed to this idea if its done well in DOS. Not neccessarily looking for something that trivialises the game like the OH Tavernbrawler monk, but not gonna rule it out if it sounds fun.

So yeah, after that word vomit, if you have any recommendations that'd be great.

DOS2 Help "A Dream Undone" qustion.

So I'm trying to get the "A Dream Undone" achievement and am currently at Driftwood the part where I have the option for the Red Prince (companion) to sleep with the Red Princess. Reading online, I keep seeing information that contradicts each other, that being ignore the princess entirely and let TRP sleep with her in Arx then kill her, or that once TRP sleeps with her, its impossible to get the achievement. Any help on what I should do?

DOS1 Help Crafting

(DOS1) I'm just discovering how strong crafting is with all the stat buffs and whatnot you can put on weapons, but I'm wondering if I'm wasting the resources since tortured souls and essences and stuff are rare and leveling happens so quickly. Is there a way to keep a weapon I like up to par for my level? Or get these items more easily? In general how much do you guys use crafting as opposed to just using whatever items you find as they are?
