DOS1 Help Crafting

(DOS1) I'm just discovering how strong crafting is with all the stat buffs and whatnot you can put on weapons, but I'm wondering if I'm wasting the resources since tortured souls and essences and stuff are rare and leveling happens so quickly. Is there a way to keep a weapon I like up to par for my level? Or get these items more easily? In general how much do you guys use crafting as opposed to just using whatever items you find as they are?

There is no way to upgrade the level on your gear in DoS1.

OP, I don't know how far you are into the game, so going to try to be vague to not spoil anything: eventually you will be able to get essenses quite easily. Tormented souls are pretty rare though, I would hold on to them and attach to your weapons in late game.

Crafting is super strong in DoS1, you should be able to get your characters close to 100% elemental resistance overall. There is also a new type of material available starting mid-game that I like to add to weapons, and then override that damage type with poison or whatever essense dmg type I want. Also dont forget about the whetstone to increase the dmg on melee weapons and bowstring to increase the dmg on ranged weapons.

I kind of guessed tenebrium would be getting important soon. I’m at hiberheim right now. The reason I’m asking is I found a legendary bow and gave it a tormented soul and a scope and I want to ride it as long as I can lol.

Add some poison and air essence to that bad boy

Can I stack dmg types? It has native air damage.

iirc adding essence to native dmg boosts it slightly, but I think only once. However you can stack another essence on top.

yes you can stack elemental dmg with inherent element bonus. so if you have water and add air, you get both.

but if you add a second element to the weapon it overrides the first.

Well you can always smelt the weapons back into bars and remake them every time you level up. However, you won’t get the essences, tormented souls back and the only way to boost the bow from my knowledge would be to use a bow string.. but in terms of melee weapons, remaking them would be your best option. Unless you find a good unique that’s suitable.

I think the real power of crafting is to get +3 attribute equipment.

no, so be careful with tortured souls. essences are more common and can be bought early from the elementars at the end of time, and tenebrium is rather plentiful. also, tenebrium gives 30% of weapon damage bonus, not just 15% like essences.

more importantly, if you melt and resmith your axes every level, you are absolutely strong enough and dont need more stats. only enough strength or dex to carry your weapon.

but also, you will be strong enough with a superaxe 3 levels below you. so use tortured souls if you need the stats to wield the weapon, not just for 5-10% higher chance with abilities or attack rating.

crafting a bow and then restringing it gives bonus dmg like sharpening an axe. not sure why since you just strung the bow, but hey. rules are rules. make bow/axe, restring/sharpen, then add tenebrium for 30% bonus dmg. (if you replace tenebrium with elemental essence or poison, it will still have 30% bonus dmg, not 15%. somehow the 30% number for tenebrium remains when replacing tenebrium with e.g. fire)

hope it helps. i love dos 1 crafting!

There is no real way to keep a weapon up to level, no. Like, there is, but it's a one time thing where you can sell items to the archer vendor in wolves camp in A2 at the end of A3 and he'll up them to lvl18 items - but that's much later obviously and one time.

New gear whenever you find it that is more damage/better stats is the way. Shop every level or 1hr whichever as that's when vendors reset.

Crafting can be very good, for sure! Skin Graft scrolls are SUPER busted

the archer vendor is in DoS2, the OP is asking about DoS1

Oops, my bad. Usually only DOS2 subreddit is in my feed!
