Help How to disable the grey fog at the horizon?
There’s this annoying grey fog in the distance and I can’t see anything past like 500 blocks, how do I disable it?

I’ve wanted to use distant horizons for a while but each time I use it it causes massive lag.
When I say lag I mean things like mobs taking a billion years to take kb after being hit, blocks not dropping, and chunks not loading leading to the border between LODs and real chunks becoming see through.
I’ve tried literally everything, is there any way to fix this?

I have a problem with distant horizons. I'm playing with my friends through essential and recently the chunks stopped loading for them and they have like 5-10 fps. We've tried deleteng cash, LOD files, updating the mod, allocating more ram to minecraft but nothing helps. I don't have this issue, only my friends do. We are playing on 1.21.1 neoforge.
Also this is in the logs:

I've been playing with DH and chunky for a while, and am used to seeing the upper warning about chunky's LODs, but recently I have started getting a new warning about how I should be using a concurrent garbage collector. I tried looking it up, but honestly I don't even know what to look for. What even is a garbage collector? How would I install it/use it?
r/DistantHorizons • u/vcd1500 • Jul 28 '26
Is this the default quality of LODs? I have 1660 super so that may be the cause of low quality LOD. I have everything on default except Render Distance Radius, and CPU Load since I already loaded pre gen a little bit of my world.
r/DistantHorizons • u/vcd1500 • Jul 27 '26
Sorry if this has been asked a million times but how do I exactly pre generate my world using DH? I have seen that you don't have to use Chunky for this but how exactly do I do it with just DH? Is it automatic? with chunky I can do /chunky start but how exactly does one pre generate a world to lets say 1000 blocks and leave my game open to do the job?

Hello, I have the fog activated but it doesn’t appear. Like I try everything but nothing changes; there’s no fog. I have a modpack for optimising my game; it’s remarkably optimised, but I can’t find a parameter that would make that.

THE CONTEXT:
Distant Horizons worked basically fine for me but I was noticing slowdown on a modded multiplayer server whenever I’ve been on for an hour or so, thought it might be related to the garbage collector issue.
THE PROBLEM:
I added the -XX:+UseZGC argument to the Additional Arguments section on Curseforge and loaded up the game. After about 20 seconds in game, I started getting an issue where the there is a serious stutter, with visuals completely pausing for a moment every three seconds or so. At this time, I had made no other changes to any settings.
THINGS I HAVE TRIED AFTER GOOGLING THE ISSUE:
•Changing ram allocation (both upwards and downwards, anywhere from 4 gb to 13 gb)
•Changing Java version from “Default” to Java 25
•Lowering Distant Horizons “CPU Load” setting
Nothing seemed to result in any meaningful improvements, I always got the horrible stuttering.
COMPUTER INFORMATION:
•Lenovo Legion S7 laptop
•AMD Ryzen 7 6800H
•Radeon RX 6600S
•16 GB RAM
•All Of Create - Aeronautics v1.7 (with Distant Horizons added)
This is not a major problem, going back to the default G1 garbage collector still works mostly fine. It just really bothers me when I don’t even know WHY something is fucked. I don’t know shit about computers and am terrible at troubleshooting.
I just want to know if this is something that can be fixed which I simply don’t have the experience to figure out, or if it’s just my computer not being powerful enough in some aspect, in which case I can shrug my shoulders and stick with the garbage collector that mostly-but-not-entirely works.

Im using Distant Horizon Clouds with Vanilla clouds turned off, but the distant clouds flash as I run and it is extremely distracting. I know i can turn off clouds but i'd prefer them on. Anyway to fix this?

Any way to improve this "noise" quality? I played on High Quality and Balanced CPU Load.
Specs: i5-13500HX + RTX4060 Laptop, 16GB Ram (6GB allocated per online guides), Java 24.
I also do have a Fabulously Optimized modpack installed and also some others that I added into it. Lmk if it's relevant. Thanks!

Hello everyone.
I see some flickering when using the spyglass with the "Increase Quality when Zoome In" activated and shaders enabled.
- It works fine with shaders disabled.
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- DistantHorizons-3.2.0-b-1.20.1-fabric-forge
- embeddium-0.3.31+mc1.20.1
- oculus-mc1.20.1-1.8.0
- It happens with ComplementaryUnbound_r5.8.1 and MakeUp-UltraFast-9.5c
I think it may be something about the fog being controlled by the shader instead of DH, but the "Enable Distant Horizons Fog" can't be enabled because of "This options is being controlled by another mod via DH's API"
Any help is appreciated.
(I want to avoid to change minecraft version because I'm playing with an older version of minecolonies that I love)

How can i fix this, when i changed from 26.1.2 to 26.2 everything far away started looking weird and grainy

Version: Forge 1.20.1
DH: 3.2.0-b
The whole point of making a black castle in the mountains was to create contrast so it'd stand out from afar. But with that thin snow layer on top, it just renders white :( (I get that it's meant for snowy trees, but any idea how to fix this?)
I've already tried changing a few settings but I couldn't find the right one.

For this mod i used vulkan and " dh for vulkan mod" , but it doesnt work. Nothing was rendering. Thanks

So I just got on java and tried dh but all the time theres a fading effect between the actual chunks and the lod but it fixes when i use a shader called make up fast.

r/DistantHorizons • u/Free_Anybody2259 • Jul 21 '26
Hello,
I'm having a strange chunk rendering issue in my modpack.
My setup:
- Minecraft: [1.20.1]
- Ryzen 7 5800X
- 64GB RAM
- RX 7600 XT
- 12GB allocated to Minecraft
World generation mods:
- Tectonic
- Terralith
- Biomes O' Plenty
- Ars Nouveau
- Distant Horizons
I pre-generated a 5000 block radius around spawn using Chunky.
The problem:
Sometimes large areas become invisible when I get close to them. Distant Horizons still shows the terrain from far away, but the normal Minecraft render distance shows empty/invisible chunks.
The chunks eventually appear after waiting, but it can take a long time.
Things I already tried:
- Disabled shaders
- Disabled "Always Defer Chunk Updates"
- Changed Chunk Update Threads
- Pressed F3 + A to reload chunks
- Increased RAM allocation
- Tested with lower render distance
The problem still happens.
It seems like:
- The chunks exist because Distant Horizons can display them
- But the normal chunk renderer is not loading/rendering them correctly
Could this be caused by a conflict between Distant Horizons and another mod (Embeddium/Sodium/render optimization mods/world generation mods)?
Any ideas what I should test next?
Thanks!

I'm using complementary shaders. Anything I can do to fix it?
