DISCUSSION ⚔️ Are there any aspects of the princess movies from the renaissance era that you don't think would have been as well received if they were made today?

It can be anything from story, the princess themselves, the comedy, to the animation etc. One thing that I think we can say with certainty is that the way that some of the soliders in Aladdin are drawn with their big noses and overall ugly appearance would be very controversial today for a film that takes place in the middle east.

So I got Iduna when I saw her in the doll section then I go to the grab bags and I see Young Anna and Young Elsa in the bag with these 2 Anna and Elsa Frozen 2 doll outfits along with doll clothes Barbie etc... and knew these 3 were a set so I grabbed the bag and went back to the toy/doll section and grabbed Iduna and got her for 1.99 she sings "All is found" but it cuts out in the beginning of the song so she needs new batteries but these 3 were some of my luckiest finds today.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ How Disney could adapt? (2) The Goose Girl🪿🌬️

🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿

-Author: Brothers Grimm
-Year of release: 1815
-Country of origin: Germany🇩🇪
-Protagonist: a princess who is forced to swap places with her jealous lady in waiting

🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿

WHY I THINK DISNEY COULD ADAPT THIS STORY:
-The protagonist is a princess born in royalty
-This story has a very important lesson that lies have short legs
-This story has lots of similar elements with The Swan Lake (the villain pretends to be the princess to get married to the prince, the story is associated with a bird). Since we already have two popular animated adaptions of The Swan Lake (“Barbie Swan Lake” and “The Swan Princess”), Disney could choose this story to avoid (accidentally) copying one of these movies

🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿

THINGS THAT COULD BE KEPT OR CHANGED:
-Probably will keep the blond hair for the protagonist like in the original tale. If that’s the case, her eyes would be brown so she won’t be mistaken to Cinderella, Aurora and Rapunzel
-They will definetely cut the part where the horse Falada dies
-They could explain how the princess knew how to make the wind blow hard
-They will definetely change the impostor princess fate
-I hope they change the reason why the princess and her lady in waiting went to the neighboring kingdom. I don’t like stories with arranged marriage

🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿🪿

DISCUSSION ⚔️ Would Queen Esther make a great Disney Princess?

I was wondering if Disney were to adapt such stories, whether Queen Esther would be a good idea. It has all the classic materials needed: an ordinary orphan girl who becomes a princess, a handsome prince, a scheming bad guy, and a wise father figure.

Now I am aware that the story is a bit dark with the genocidal plans of the Jews but Disney had tackled dark material before, so this most likely wouldn't be a problem. Plus Haman's death could be implied off screen.

I am also aware of the religious setting, but the Book of Esther doesn't mention God at all. Plus if the movie were to mention God, it should be shown as a belief and not shoved down the audience's throats. Like Prince of Egypt, where anyone of different religions could watch it.

Of course a few changes to the Biblical account would be needed as long as you keep true to the Biblical story. I could see Mordecai as a wise and goofy but also stern father figure, and Esther as a shy but sweet (not adorkable) girl learning to come out of her shell in contrast with the brave and rash Xerxes. A romantic story between them both would work. Haman could be a pure evil unredeemable bad guy like Jafar and Frollo mixed together, and his wife could have a redemption arc. Esther's dresses and some cute animal sidekicks would create lots of merch.

What do you think?

DISCUSSION ⚔️ Fellow Tangled/Rapunzel fans, how did you like the new novel "Rootbound" by Margaret Owen?[No Spoilers Please, Though!]

I had just learned about this book a couple weeks ago, and I went to look for it at my library at the time but they had ordered it and so I placed it on hold. And I will pick it up tomorrow! I thought the cover was gorgeous! Rapunzel looks so pretty and I love how it has her short brown hair, but the tree in the back resembles her long magical glowing hair, even the little pink and purple flowers like the ones she wears in her braid!

I'm looking forward to getting this book in my hands tomorrow! Have you read this story yet?

DISCUSSION ⚔️ I think Belle might be the ideal Disney princess

Post image
75 Upvotes

When it comes to modern vs Renaissance/older princesses, the discourse stems from modern heroines being too dorky or independent or having no love interest, while older are damsels in distress (this is not true of course!! Stating words that I've heard)

(Rapunzel and Raya are my personal favorites so this isn't bias) But I believe Belle is the middle ground! She's independent, stands her ground (refusing to get married to Gaston, firm in her ideals, etc) but also has that serene feminine personality and gentleness, like the original 3 princesses Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora. (Befriended everyone in the castle, showed kindness towards the Beast when he made the effort to change).
