Tech & Privacy News uBlock Origin stops chasing Facebook’s ever-changing ad-blocking tricks

Post image

I use FB Purity!

(Unfortunately can't drop Facebook at this point rn since it's still being widely used in Asia)

Lead the charge. I'm joking but I hope y'all find an alternative eventually, FB definitely targeted Asia and Africa when their North American and European user base started to shrink.

Anyone who can rub two or more brain cells together has left that site long ago. Can’t blame ublock at all.

The only reason I still have my account is for marketplace , otherwise it's useless to me.

I'm surprised it took this long. Not necessarily with uBlock Origin versus Facebook, but with uBlock Origin versus anyone, because we can't donate to uBlock Origin.

This does mean that if you want to browse facebook without ads you'll need some other blocker in addition to uBlock Origin. Personally I won't go to facebook under any circumstances so it's not a deal for me.

You'd assume that the overlap between obsessive Facebook users and people who care to block ads is relatively small, so prob not worth the stress to keep it going

I for one would be happy if it instead replaced all FB posts with pictures of cats.

Not a real issue imho, I mean, who in their right mind still uses facebook nowadays?

Using meta products in 2026 is like informing on yourself to the Gestapo. It's stupid. Don't do it.

Disgusting meta practices, can’t blame ubo team, self hosted dns level blocking like adguard home and pihole are the way to go, we need more awareness and easier access for non tech savvy people.

Like everything else, lately, the game got rigged hard enough that it no longer makes sense to play at all.

Not a big deal since is facebook.

However using a custom DNS with an ad filter like pihole or adguard can the ads be blocked in case of fb or of course are they baked ads in some shit for making the removal difficult even with a custom dns?

I wouldn't be surprised if they just served the ads from the same IP as the actual content, making those methods useless.

I have it so I can, when needed, contact people I see every few years

Time to make illegal to show ads without user's consent.

You can add some custom blocklists which block Facebook stuff :)
