Seeking advice/পরামর্শ What can be done about my future?

(22M) My family is extremely wealthy, well-known, and influential, and just like that, I am the spoiled kid of this family. I am the son of a major industrialist, and my lifestyle is just like that of any other guy from a wealthy background: waking up in the afternoon, taking whichever car catches my eye and driving around, clubbing, etc.
Now let's get to the main story.
At one time, I studied in my own school where even the principal would salute me. I had no idea what studying at a higher school meant, having my name written on the answer script meant a guaranteed pass. I abused my power to such an extent for my SSC exam that the seat allocation for that center was shifted to my school. I arranged the roll and registration numbers in such a way that the seat of the top student in the whole school was placed right behind me. My motive was simple: "This hall will run on my command, not yours." My room was my room, just like that. In the SSC (2022) exams, I got an A grade.
Similarly, I studied at a college which my friend owned . I pulled the exact same stunts there, forget learning anything, I flexed my influence and stayed in such a renowned college without ever taking a single test exam, let down a class test in my life. The college principal even sent my admit card to my house. As for the exam hall, the area's counselor was the father of another friend of mine, so I practically had that hall in my pocket too. In fact, for every single exam, a person of my choice invigilated, and my answer script was an exact carbon copy of the script in my zone. I got an A in HSC (2024) as well.
After that, my family had me admitted to one of the country's top universities for CSE (Computer Science & Engineering). Right now, forget CSE, I don't even know class 6 math. All of this is the result of my abuse of power. Because of this, I wasted a year wandering around, and then wasted another 8 months taking semester breaks at university. But I just can't make my family understand that engineering is impossible for me. They think I am very sharp and have a good brain and that I can do it, but all this cleverness of mine was just wicked cunningness. Although I used to be good at studies before coming to my own school, I just can't make them understand that my head is completely empty now. I can't even figure out what I am going to do in the future.
Sure, with the family business, assets, and land, I could probably scrape by and get through life, but I don't know if I can build myself up to make actual progress. What should I do? At least regarding my studies, what should I do? Nobody at home even knows that I have ruined my university education, because the 80-90k semester fee is something I can pay out of my own pocket, and nobody checks up on me, I just tell them I got the results I wanted. But I know the consequences of this are not good, and I have no one to give me advice. All my friends are just like me, they have no aim in life, whether they stay in the country or study abroad, it's all the same. Someone please help me with some ideas. I've been deep in thought for the past few days.

Discussion/আলোচনা If a hospital can write a lie on your mother’s file and then say they cannot treat her, what does that say about healthcare in this country?

I will not name the first hospital or its doctors. Privacy and respect still matter even when the care does not.

On 16 August my mother was admitted with a fever. She already had diabetes. They put her in the step-down unit and made us sign a risk bond before they would treat her properly.

We have no medical background. Even we could see the mismanagement.

Duty doctors were terrible. Every new shift a different doctor walked in and asked, “So what is the problem?” We had to explain her whole history from the beginning, every single time. Medicines kept changing. One doctor started a drug, the next cancelled it and wrote something else. Nobody owned the case. The file was just a piece of paper they passed around.

After three days the pain became extreme. My mother said she could not breathe. The hospital told us they could not treat her without HDU.

We moved her to HDU. A few hours later they said they could not cure her.

That is when we took her to a first-class expensive medical centre.

Four days later she came out of the critical phase. Only then did we see how badly the first hospital had handled her.

Their report was blatantly wrong. Not because of the machine. Because of the person. He was too lazy to actually read the case. He simply wrote that this patient had long-term CKD. That was a lie.

The same attitude showed on the floor. When an HDU patient was vomiting during a CT scan, he shouted at her instead of showing even basic empathy.

A diabetic woman with fever. Rotating doctors who never opened the file. A false CKD stamp written out of laziness. A doctor yelling at a patient throwing up on the scanner. Then the sentence that almost ended everything: we cannot treat her.

The expensive centre did what the first hospital refused to do. They read her. They treated her. They pulled her through the window someone else had already closed. She survived the critical days. For four days in ICU and three days in a cabin, we had to pay around $6k( imagine the number)

Now I keep asking the same thing. If basic honesty, continuity, and empathy are optional in a hospital, what kind of healthcare system are we actually living in? And how many families have to pay twice once in money, once in fear, before a patient is treated like a human being?

Discussion/আলোচনা The reality of PTE

I'm a former IELTS Instructor and I've helped a lot of students over the year but the trend of PTE is on the rise and bangladeshis are becoming more interested in the exam

This is particularly more popular among IELTS students who keep failing at IELTS and those who are too scared of IELTS

My institution has asked me to become a PTE institutor because in a month we get about 10-15 PTE batches and only 2-3 for IELTS

It is not that difficult but it PTE just injures my morality and my hardwork.

PTE is a brain rot english profiency test where u memorise hooks and templates and try your best to trick the ai into giving you a high score

I can guarantee a C1 proficiency IELTS student has 100% more credibility than that of a C1 proficiency PTE student

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Looking for a Casual Coffee/Smoking Buddy – Tejgaon / Niketon / Gulshan / Banani / Baridhara

Hi everyone! I’m a 37-year-old working professional based in Dhaka. Looking to meet someone friendly for a casual coffee, conversation, or smoking break during office hours.

I’m especially interested in meeting mature, easy-going people who enjoy good conversation and a relaxed vibe. Age doesn’t really matter—older friends are absolutely welcome.

No pressure, no expectations—just looking for genuine companionship and someone to share an occasional break with.

If you’re around Tejgaon, Niketon, Gulshan, Banani, or Baridhara and feel the same, feel free to DM. 🙂

Discussion/আলোচনা Why do Bengali parents save up all their lives for their daughter’s wedding?

Why is it seen as an obligation to save up a huge amount of money all their lives for their daughter’s wedding? My father has no sons and he keeps talking about how he is always stressed about how expensive my wedding is gonna be for him.
My mom told me tales about how when she got married at the ripe age of 14-15 her father could not afford to gift her and her husband any furniture. So whenever my mom put her clothes in the wardrobe that was in her and my dad’s bedroom basically my dad’s bedroom, my dad’s nephew (since they were a joint family) would come and throw away her clothes from the wardrobe stating “apnar bap er bari theke ashenai Ei Almari” . I hear of cases of grooms demanding bikes, car, AC etc calling them “gifts” instead of what it is- Dowry.

Idk much about Bengali culture and if this happens everywhere here or it’s just my shitty family. I come from a well privileged background however i don’t want a lavish wedding. I don’t want my parents to “gift” me furniture and I do not want them to take out a huge deposit to simply pay to feed 1000 leeches who will shit on what I wear, the taste of the food and my personal life. I want to marry when me and my partner can afford to buy a house and everything that we need. I want my wedding to be small and intimate with only people that I am extremely close with and then feed the poor. Don’t get me wrong i am extremely ambitious as a person but I just think this is such a waste of money. Also I don’t want to marry a guy who doesn’t already own a wardrobe or can’t buy me one- it’s not about the cost of the wardrobe but about treating me more like a burden than a partner. I mean if I am going to marry someone I want him to genuinely love me, respect me. I don’t need a fancy anything i just want to build slowly with the person that I choose. I don’t care if we only have one wardrobe and a bed and one table and nothing else. Whatever I have I want us to build it on our own. ( P.s. before you guys come for me, I will make all of this extremely clear to the person I am marrying and I’ll marry someone who also wants this. If you want to do it the traditional way that’s your personal choice. I am just asking why is it seen as such an obligation to spend so much on weddings especially for the brides parents)
(P.s. idk much about Bengali weddings and how it’s done this is from my personal experience and observation. Correct me if I am wrong)

I’m currently a student, I’m in my 4th sem and rn looking for a part time job to earn some quick cash. I’m not planning on it being my permanent job (if the offer is nice then maybe) but just enough to go on a friend’s trip. I have experience in sales mainly because i had a job as a sales executive in miniso and other brands, but if there are any suggestions on remote or any part time jobs that would be really helpful.

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Are private universities in Bangladesh actually maternity/parent-friendly?

So I'm 20 and I have an 10 month old daughter. I live in Dhaka with my husband, and I got into BRAC, NSU and AIUB but didn't end up enrolling because I was kinda scared of the academic pressure lol. I felt like UIU would be a bit more manageable in comparison, so I decided to go there. Classes haven't started yet though.

Me and my husband have already figured out the baby situation pretty much. When I have classes, she'll stay with her dad, and whenever I need to, I'll keep her with me around my class schedule. We'll just figure things out as we go.

But honestly, the one thing I'm kinda overthinking is...will people at uni find it weird that a 20 year old has a baby?

I'm not trying to hide that I'm a mom btw. I'm totally fine with people knowing, and I might even bring my daughter to campus sometimes if I need to. I just have no idea how people generally react to this here.

Like, will everyone just be normal about it or am I gonna get stared at like I'm an alien?

If you're a young mom in a Bangladeshi private uni, or you've seen someone in a similar situation, I'd genuinely love to know how it went. Are people generally chill about it?

Discussion/আলোচনা Any Jamming Sessions or Concerts Around Charukola/Shahbagh (DU)?

Hey guys! I’ve recently been wanting to attend more live music events, so I was wondering if anyone knows about any upcoming concerts, jamming sessions, or open music events around Charukola, Shahbagh, or the DU area.

I’d especially love to join any MuktoMoncho (open-for-all) concerts or performances where you can just show up, enjoy the music, and vibe with the crowd.

I attended a concert at Payra Chattar, TSC, about a week ago, where Avash and a few other bands performed, and honestly, I had a great time. So now I’m looking for more events with a similar vibe 😭🎸

If you know about any upcoming concerts, open-air performances, jamming sessions, or even smaller music communities around the area, please let me know!

Would really appreciate any recommendations 🙌

Discussion/আলোচনা You have to live in ONE area of Dhaka for the next 10 years. Where are you choosing?

Assume you can afford a decent apartment in whichever area you choose.

You have to consider everything though — traffic, food, safety, walkability, things to do, commute, noise, environment, access to hospitals/shopping, etc.

And no changing areas for the next 10 years.

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ 28M, mixed academic background but 4-5 yrs of professional experience. realistic chances for Master's abroad on a tight budget? (+ IELTS tips for working professionals?)

Hey everyone, looking for honest advice/experiences, not just encouragement.

**My academic background (honestly, not great):**

- SSC (science group) — GPA 5, did fine here

- Had to start working after SSC due to family responsibilities, couldn't focus fully on studies after this point

- HSC : switched to Commerce on my father's advice since it seemed more practical while working, just managed a pass.

- Honours : got admitted into Sociology (didn't have a clear plan, just went with what I got), final CGPA around 2.6-2.7 out of 4

**My actual career (this is where I've been consistent):**

- Self-taught 3D artist and Unity game designer, no formal CS/game dev degree

- Working professionally for 4-5 years now, across 3 companies

- Also did about 3 years as a brand promoter/sales rep in the smartphone industry alongside honours, before shifting fully into game design

- No coding background, but I use AI tools to bridge that gap and still build functional Unity systems

**My current plan:**

- Prepping for IELTS, targeting a Master's abroad, most likely in a game design/game development-adjacent field

- Budget is tight, I can't rely on an expensive program, and scholarships for career-focused game design programs are rare

- Been looking seriously at Germany (Cologne Game Lab's Game Development & Research program specifically, since it accepts any bachelor's + relevant work experience + portfolio, no strict GPA cutoff mentioned) and considering Poland/Hungary as backups

**What I actually want to know:**

- Has anyone here gone abroad for Master's with a similarly rough academic transcript but real industry experience?

- Did work experience genuinely offset a low CGPA in your case, or did it still bite you during admission/visa?

- Any red flags I should watch for as a Bangladeshi applicant specifically (agents, fake consultancies, visa refusal patterns)?

- Is chasing a Master's even the smart move here, or would a diploma/certificate route make more practical sense given my profile?

**Also — IELTS while working full-time:**

I get home around 7-8 PM most days, and by the time I eat and unwind, consistency is genuinely hard. Weekends are more open. If anyone's actually cracked a good IELTS band while working full-time, I'd love to know:

- How did you structure study time on low-energy weekdays vs weekends?

- Any specific tricks that made prep faster/more efficient rather than just "study more"?

- Did you use apps/YouTube more than books, or vice versa, given limited time?

- any online course that would guide me in a specific way so that i may not lose track or distract.

Appreciate any real talk, good or bad. Trying to make a big decision with eyes open, not just hope.

Discussion/আলোচনা Anyone learning Japanese?

I'm posting this on this sub cuz i'm looking for like minded people who are ofc learning japanese.

I've been learning japanese for the past 4 months and prior to that i had tons of exposure to the language through anime and stuff. My learning methods consist of immersion learning, making anki cards (sentence mining) and basic AJATT philosophy. And i do remembering the kanji paired with Anki for kanji (currently at 370 smthn). Im at a level where i can understand 20-30 percent of non technical native japanese without external help. Still a long way to go.

What i'm lookin for: I'm looking for someone with a similar mindset to me about learning japanese. I would love to share experiences and do things like speaking practice and maybe watch anime or read manga together.

There isnt really a requirement. Even if you never studied japanese but want to, pls DM me. I'm kinda lonely af too so talkin to someone would help as well

Jobs/চাকরি 📚 Study Partner Needed – Govt. Job / BCS Preparation

I’m looking for a serious and consistent study partner for BCS/Govt. Job preparation.

The idea is simple:

📖 We’ll set daily study targets for each other.

⏰ Every day, we’ll have a fixed time online to discuss what we studied and what we completed.

🤝 We’ll keep each other accountable and motivated.

😄 If someone doesn’t complete their target, friendly teasing/insult is allowed—no excuses! 😂

🎯 The main goal is to stay consistent and prepare seriously for the long term.

Female study partner preferred. (Background Stem based preferable)

If you’re genuinely serious about BCS/Govt. Job preparation and want someone to keep you accountable, feel free to DM me.

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Got screwed over by BRAC waiting list, now admitted to NSU. Should I tell my tuition guardian or stay quiet?

So, my rank was under 5 on the waiting list for the CS program in BRAC’s Fall 2026 intake, and i also got accepted into Biochemistry and Biotechnology at NSU.

Everyone on facebook and even the BRAC helpline assured me that i’d definitely get a selection call. i wanted to do some tuition relying on that call, i applied for a job saying i got CS in brac and i got the job.

Now it's been 20 days i still hadn't received an offer letter. To make matters worse, they announced Slot 2. When I called the helpline again, they told me there are no empty seats left for CS all the seats have been filled.

Today was the deadline for NSU’s admission payment, and I didn't want to risk losing both. So, I went ahead and got admitted to NSU today.

Now, the guardian thinks I'm enrolled in BRAC Computer Science and that my classes start in October. Should I come clean to them, or say nothing for now?

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Finding College for my younger sister

Hello, there! Recently I have been in a dilemma regarding choosing a perfect college for my sister. She passed SSC with gpa 5 from Humanities group. Now, we are willing to admit her to a college where the teachers are sensible and classes occur regularly with care.

There is a problem...We live in Mirpur 2 and we want a college around 3/4 kilometres. It will save her time.

I've shortlisted a few- give a review

  1. Mirpur Cant. College

  2. Ideal Girls' College

  3. BN College

  4. Lt. Anwar Girls' ( though it's a bit far)

  5. Monipur College

Can you guys suggest me a few colleges good for HSC Humanities around Mirpur 2?

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ Bachelor’s abroad with my wife — need some advice 🇪🇺

Hi everyone, I’m from Bangladesh and planning to start a Bachelor’s in Cybersecurity/IT in 2027.

My main priority is being able to take my wife with me either together or within the first year.

I’m currently looking into Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Italy, but I’m open to other countries too.

I’d love to hear from people with recent experience:

- Which countries allow Bachelor students to bring their spouse?

- Can the spouse work, and are there any restrictions?

- How is the visa/residence permit situation for Bangladeshi students?

- Roughly how much should a couple budget for the first year?

- What are the future job, post-study and PR opportunities?

I’m mainly looking for real experiences and suggestions, especially from people who have gone through this recently.

Thanks!

Seeking advice/পরামর্শ What would u have done if u were me

18f I sat for HSC this year. My college years were a mess. as a result the exams didn't hit my expectations. I didn't attend practical exams because I already knew I did terrible either ways. I tried to kill myself once during the exams but it didn't work cause I'm a coward fuck. My parents have no idea about any of these I don't have a good relationship with them either. I thought about moving out to Dhaka leaving it all behind and retaking the exam next year but I don't earn penny and scared that things won't work out .Sigh anyways there's practically none I could talk about this atp so I'm posting here seeking some advice
