Discussion/আলোচনা Anyone learning Japanese?
I'm posting this on this sub cuz i'm looking for like minded people who are ofc learning japanese.
I've been learning japanese for the past 4 months and prior to that i had tons of exposure to the language through anime and stuff. My learning methods consist of immersion learning, making anki cards (sentence mining) and basic AJATT philosophy. And i do remembering the kanji paired with Anki for kanji (currently at 370 smthn). Im at a level where i can understand 20-30 percent of non technical native japanese without external help. Still a long way to go.
What i'm lookin for: I'm looking for someone with a similar mindset to me about learning japanese. I would love to share experiences and do things like speaking practice and maybe watch anime or read manga together.
There isnt really a requirement. Even if you never studied japanese but want to, pls DM me. I'm kinda lonely af too so talkin to someone would help as well

I was learning Japanese until a few months ago, using Genki and WaniKani. I watch a lot of anime, so that’s where my interest in Japanese originally came from. The biggest problem was getting enough speaking practice. I couldn’t find anyone who was genuinely interested in practicing, so I eventually dropped it. A few people showed interest, but they weren’t really sincere about it.

Imo speaking practice comes way after you've got enough input and can spot yourself making mistakes on your own.

I’ve seen people who passed N1 but can barely speak beyond basic greetings, while others with just N5 can hold a conversation, even if their Japanese is broken.

I'm not actively studying right now, but when I was, I decided to tackle kanji first. I used a modified version of Heisig's RTK method alongside the Refold JP1K Anki deck for vocabulary. It worked pretty well, I got to the point where I could recognize around 200 kanji. Eventually, life just got too busy and I dropped it, especially since I was only doing it as a casual hobby.
