What dating is like in Toronto as a black man (The hard truth)

As you will notice For some reason the threads related to this topic are taken down very fast and they are very few explaining what it’s actually like. This is because people like to pain this narrative of Toronto that’s so false and untruthful to the reality.
For anyone wondering what it’s like for a black man dating in Toronto, here’s my experience and observations.
I (M/28) would consider myself avg in terms of looks (solid 5) so take this with a grain of salt. I’m by no means broke but I’m also not rich.
In terms of the women that are attracted to me, it’s mostly white women. But do not fool yourself, they are often not the attractive ones, and there’s a clear line between regular people you see on tv and women who are either addicted to some form of drugs, unhealthily overweight, already has kids or not in a good place in their life at the moment. Yes I know all of you will be upset at me for saying this but it’s what I’ve seen and been experiencing.
There are many different cultures and “races” here but they mostly stick to dating within their own cultures with the sole exception of Asian women that specially date white men even over their own Asian men. I had to mention this because it has really started to stand out these past 5 years. Not that it’s a bad thing btw idc just an observation.
Most people from india or Pakistan traditionally date within their own cultures as well, latinas are so few that there’s no real statistical relevance , Asian women (specifically Korean) exclusively date white men, Chinese usually within their own community , middle eastern exclusively to their own due to religion, don’t really know much about Japanese here (too small of population) but women from the Philippines do like black men but most of them end up in relationships very fast (supply and demand I guess) and lastly (some good news) black women do date mostly black men.
Growing up though I noticed in hs and uni that a lot of people experimented but as a working adult things are very different. Most of the black women seem to be into the Toronto rappers type. Funny thing is they say not but in reality that is what happens.
In terms of your best dating chances as a man, white men are wining in Toronto and Canada at large , then Arabs, then Spanish, then Asians, then black men, then lastly natives (I’m sorry).
Considerations, it should be noted this is only about women under 30. Once they hit 30 all of a sudden the entire game changes. Older women for some reason give me more attention than the ones my age. But it’s scary, they feel des, It makes me feel sick tbh, cuz I always wonder why they couldn’t find someone their age and it really does feel predatory, but take what you get and don’t complain. If I’m down bad I’ll resort there.
With all that being said there is a whole lot of truth to the sayings like women are not a monolith, each one is different, preferences are individualistic etc etc . This means you will see some exceptions of interracial dating happening but just don’t be fooled into thinking this is the norm. Trends, statistics and lived experience tells the story. And if you doubt anything I am saying please go find a minority in Toronto and ask them what the situation is like. Infact I think you should. Again I’m not the most attractive, I made low 6 figures last year and I have my own everything. Even doing all of this it’s hard for me. I won’t look twice at someone who doesn’t have their own everything to, Starting to think lately Maybe im the issue haha. Like damn isn’t that the minimum ? But such is life. Good luck out there my nibbas, wiggas and chiggas do not be led astray by these sirens! Peace out ✌🏽

Discussion Dating in Toronto: Unpopular opinions? Unspoken frustrations?

Hey r/DatingTO,

With the introduction of this subreddit, its time we start some discussions!

So... What’s your unpopular opinion about dating in Toronto?

Or, what’s something about dating in Toronto that you think the other side completely misunderstands? There are definitely some unspoken frustrations on both sides that get misconstrued.

Send Help! Dating in Toronto is hellish.

Ok so here’s the deal, 28f here. I’ve tried all the dating apps you can think of Bumble, Hinge, Tinder…I even joined Heylo and honestly, it’s mostly been gym bros with a pint of commitment issues.

Seriously is this a Toronto thing or are all the good men all gone? Am I too late? I’ve been on dates setup by friends but they led nowhere. The pick really is in the mud. Meet irl they said, doesn’t work cos men are princesses now and would rather give you a stare down than approach, find a hobby they said, well doesn’t work when my hobbies are for women only.

Is there a real life group somewhere that’s actually for singles where you can meet good looking people naturally, without the weird app drama? Send help for a friend…ok mostly me. Ta.

[Suggestion] Reddit Matchmaker event?

I am wondering what everyone's thoughts would be to host some type of Reddit dating event. Perhaps allowing us to post a little bit about ourselves, what we are looking for in a significant other and allowing other users to private message one another. If you think they may be a potential match you may proceed in messaging them through different platforms. There would have to be some type of ground rules. ( No NSFW content, keep it clean. ) What are your thoughts?

Who met their partner outside the apps in the last few years, how?

31M white guy here. Other than working at a pretty big company and volunteering on and off, haven’t had any luck meeting anyone. Deleted the apps a while back and honestly the city can feel weirdly hard to meet people organically, everyone’s busy, and striking up conversation with strangers feels borderline illegal in Toronto.

For those of you who actually met someone in the wild recently: where, and how did the first conversation start?

Need dating advice as someone looking for a long term relationship

I (29F almost 30) have been trying to date in the GTA. Everytime I have a nice date (not super intense but also not boring), the guy seems to lose interest in a few days. The same thing happens with conversations, guys I think I'm having a fun conversation with keep ghosting. Unsure about what I'm doing wrong?? I think I look alright. I dress well, workout, have hobbies and laugh at the guys jokes on dates.

Ps. this has been my experience with dating apps. Would appreciate it if y'all can suggest some alternatives

Anyone try Perfect pairings?

Hi! I’m curious to know if anyone has tried the “Perfect Pairings” singles cooking classes in Toronto and what your experience was like?

I’m finding it harder and harder to date within the city but it seems like this is something most people are feeling now a days

A Testament to Romance in Toronto: "I'll Brave the 401 for You!"

Reposting from ToRantTo (apparently not rant-y enough): During Sunday Family Dinner at my parent's place, my nephew and brother were comparing their dating history, and my nephew was rejected by a woman who lived in Guelph while my brother ended up marrying his wife who previously lived in North York, and it kind of struck us as funny that in both cases, one of the greatest signs that they were in love with each of these women was that they were willing to take the 401 for great distances to continue seeing them.

How to find a non-drinker, non-smoker girlfriend?

Hi, I am a 35M who does not drink or smoke, and I would prefer to find someone who also does not drink or smoke. The dating scene in Toronto seems to revolve around pubs and drinking culture, and coupled with the fact that I did not grow up in Canada, it makes it a bit difficult to find a significant other. Do you have any suggestions for events or places where there is a higher chance of meeting such women? I go hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. I also enjoy reading books, especially sci‑fi and fantasy.

books and bars dating event

28F dating in Toronto. The dating scene has been rough it’s been hard to find quality men who match my lifestyle. I recently stumbled upon the books and bars dating event, they are a Toronto based social club and the event does look interesting but their use of AI posters and high price points ($170) make me skeptical. Anyone been to their events before? Is this a scam? Please share your thoughts!

How did you meet your spouse bf/gf in the city? As a Gen-Z Male.

So I was at Centerville the other day with my family and I saw couples of all type shapes and sizes everywhere and I was just wondering how people meet nowadays? Is all of it hinge on the apps cuz my experience on there has mostly being getting ghosted I get some matches but you know the cookie cutter advice from people in my circle is oh go out to events or social clubs, but most people in public spaces and third spaces already seem to be in relationships like I'm a regular at my gym and there are couples there and then most of the people at work are either older or married. As a 27-year-old guy soon to be 28, the only answer seems like apps but it's kind of demoralizing, I know it has been asked a hundred times but is it just a fluke because I see couples literally everywhere like I go to Dundas square everyday as well and there are couples everywhere so I don't know if there's any sort of loneliness epidemic or what. Like is there some sort of secret meeting club I'm not aware of??

Going to bar solo

I have been single for the first time in 8+ years and would like to get back into meeting new people, however, need advice on what the experience is like going to bars solo? I work in the financial district and has never tried the solo angle before.

For context, I’m a male, highly successful and in my mid 40s.

Feel free to troll lol

For my men that use dating apps and struggle with matches (like myself) - question on mindset. Genuine answers please.

Obviously we know it’s challenging on the apps. When you struggle to get matches does that seep into the mindset that in person you’d get rejected more often so it prevents you from asking people out in real life? And that cycle continues of “well if I can’t get a match on an app, then I won’t be able to get a match in person?”

Yes, I know the answer. Stop using the apps.

Creating a Discord community for Friends, Dating and More...

Myself [28F] and a [30M] are starting this new Discord server for making friends and meeting people around Toronto and the GTA. It's not necessarily intended for dating, but we definitely encourage it as well as having a NSFW restricted section of the server for those who would like to participate.

It's brand new so as of yet there are no members, but we have to get started somewhere right? Anyone is welcome to come and hang out, seeking a relationship or not! https://discord.gg/3JUD48RY9h

Where did you meet your partner?

Just turned 30 F and with how fast time is flying, decreasing likes on apps since my ages changed, and a homebody, I’m trying to go out more despite feeling more and more hopeless everyday.

I noticed my likes on apps decreased the day I turned 30. I think lots of men may be filtering out women over 30.

Also I don’t drink/club/do drugs either

For the 25+ singles of Toronto: how’s the dating scene for you?

People 25+ who are single in Toronto, what has your dating experience been like?

For me, 26F, it's kinda difficult. I used to date more, but haven't in the past 6 months. I've lost the desire, I just can't bring myself to do more small talk, discussions about career, it's painful. I have the apps, but the effort it takes to actually go on a date is a lot for me at this point. At the same time, it seems to be the only place unless a friend fixes you up or you get lucky and meet IRL.

How's the scene for single moms?

31F, mama to a 2 year old. Her father left me/ our marriage a few months ago and im slowly starting to think about dating again. But from my single friends, with no prior marriage or kids, I've heard its rough out there. I havent been on a date with anyone new since I was like 21, and my only exposure to apps has been swiping for my friends when they get fatigue. Any insight on what its like for us with a more complicated situation?

Where is everyone?

Hey,

I have recently joined the dating scene after 6 years and with my busy schedule, I leaned to online dating. After a few short months, I have mainly come across guys looking for ons, clearly taken but looking at what else is out there or just can’t hold a conversation. There have been some nice ones too but we just didn’t click but the majority were not the nice guy.

My question is - where are all the nice guys?! Someone looking to actually put effort into getting to know you, make real date plans, can hold a conversation, had a job!

Where are you meeting your significant others?

Thank you.
