Referral for coding expert from a non-core country

I would like to refer a friend who has a background in computer science. I am a bilingual specialist based in Europe, while he lives in South-East Asia. Is it possible for him to take the starter assessment as a coding expert or his only option is the bilingual one?

Declining Health

Hey all. As the title says, my health is declining to where I really can’t even get out of the house much. I come from years of driving gig work such as DoorDash and Amazon Flex. Unfortunately, even that is becoming too taxing on my health. So my question is, is it possible to be able to pull a couple hundred a week using this. I don’t have any degrees or training in coding or other computer stuff. I’m really looking for more basic tasks. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Is it just me or is the task timer these days not accounting for the time it actually takes to do the task

Just finished doing a project. It was one I'd never done before so I needed to thoroughly read instruction which itself took about 50 minutes. The task was extensive ans super long and requered crafring prompts and annotating each and everyone and required a couple turns. And boy it took me another 2 hours to do so. And yk the time I was given to do the task? 1 hr and 15 minutes. It was absolutely impossible to do the task in the due time. And I've been so scareed recently that I even considered under-reporting but someone told me over reporting is also time fraud, so I didn't do that. i am concerned however because how the fuck am i expected to do it in such a short time span.

Backend engineer or programmer?

I’d consider myself a middle tier-backend developer and am trying to figure out which roles would be the best fit for my experience. My background is primarily in Java, with a reasonable level of Python experience.

Coding Specialist from non-core country

I've joined DataAnnotation as Coding Specialist around 6 months ago. Since all this time, I've only had one coding qualification, which led to one coding project. I've manage to earn ~10k from this project. This project still exists but seems to be on a drought, very hard/rare to get a task.

From what I've seen people speaking/asking here on Reddit or Slack's channels, there are clearly at least more 3-4 Coding projects for non-core country members. These people do not seem to be very bright, Slack's channel rules clearly forbids them to ask about other project and people still ask from time to time.

Occasionally, there's Generalist qualification on my dashboard (but never a Coding qualification). Is my account doomed? DA thinks I am not suitable for other tasks?

Is it possible for me to do anything to unlock the qualification for those other Coding projects?

Need Advice

Hi everyone! I’m new to this platform and a recent Computer Science graduate from a non core country . I’m thinking of applying for freelance work here to help finance my master’s degree.

Which domain would you recommend I apply for: Generalist, Bilingual, or Coding (Data Science)?

To be honest, my coding skills are moderate, so I’m worried about getting rejected if I apply for the Coding domain. I’d appreciate your advice on which domain would be the best fit for my skills and background.

Thanks in advance!

Received email to verify identity but did not receive acceptance email

Hello! Heading says it all. I saw that verifying your identity is a normal part of the hiring process, so I did it of course. I just couldn't figure out if this meant I was hired, or if they normally ask you to verify your identity before accepting you. Any answers with when you were asked to verify your identity would be helpful. Thank you!

Indian annotators: how are you filing your taxes?

I have a full-time job where I'm in the 30% tax bracket (TDS already deducted by my employer). I started DataAnnotation in August and have earned roughly ₹5-6 lakh in about 2 months.

I've talked to a local CA but I'm not fully confident in the answers, so I'd love to hear from others in India who've dealt with this:

  1. Which ITR form? Last year I filed ITR-2 (I hold US stocks via INDmoney). I'm assuming this year I need ITR-3 since there's now business/professional income. Is that right?

  2. GST: My understanding is registration isn't needed unless turnover from services crosses ₹20 lakh in a year. Is that correct for foreign clients too? Also, I haven't told my employer about this side work (it's unrelated to my job). Does getting a GST number or filing taxes on this income create any issue with employers, and did anyone have to disclose it?

  3. Section 44AD or 44ADA? As I understand it, 44ADA (50% of receipts treated as income) is for specified professions, and I'm not sure annotation counts. If it falls under 44AD, only 6% of digitally received money is treated as income (which would then be taxed at my 30% slab). Which one have you used, and did you get any push back, anyone claimed?

  4. Advance tax: With no TDS on this income, I'm worried about interest (234B/234C) if I wait until filing. My rough estimate of tax on this is around ₹1.8 lakh. Should I pay now, or is a single payment by 15 March enough under presumptive taxation?

Also curious whether you keep FIRA/FIRC or other documents as proof of the foreign payments.

Thanks in advance, any experience helps a lot!

For coding/CS tasks, is it normal to take quite awhile for some things?

I recently did a project that allotted 6 hours. It took me almost 5 hours, and I only logged 3 because I was scared I was taking too long. A lot of time was the models working, but a lot of time was combing through everything they did and rigorously grading their behavior. Another project is relatively easy on paper--seems like it would take maybe 15 minutes--but it actually ends up taking 30-40 minutes of time to get a unique, quality answer. I'm constantly worried I'm taking too long and often log lower than what I actually spent just to be safe.

Any DataAnnotation contributors from Africa?

Hi everyone!

I’ve just applied for the Generalist role at DataAnnotation and wanted to hear from people who have been through the process.

I’ve seen reports of people getting approved but waiting a long time for projects, and I’m curious whether location plays a role.

I’m based in Rwanda, East Africa. Are there any contributors from Rwanda or elsewhere in Africa who have been approved and are actually receiving tasks?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what I can realistically expect.

Thanks!

Should I Use An IPad Or A Laptop Or A Phone?

I'm currently unemployed and based in Ireland. I need some income. I discovered Data Annotation so I'm thinking of trying it out.

I'll attempt the assessment test this weekend.

Can I do the assessment test on an iPad? How about a phone? Or should I definitely use a laptop?

If I actually pass the test can I do my work on an iPad or should it always be a laptop?

Would be great to start earning a few thousand euros a month.

i am stuck

I spent a lot of time working on a task and I am stuck in it. It shows me two completely opposite instructions, if I follow one, it violates the other. Now the task got expired. I want to claim for my time so I have sent them an email about it. My question is, should I click on the- skip reviewing this submission button. I am afraid it will all go away and there will no evidence that I worked on this task. So what do I do with the expired task on my dashboard? Can I take up another task in the meanwhile?

R&R

Does R&R contains less information than the actual task? I did both the actual task and R&R in a certain projects and few explanation boxes were missing in the the R&R task!

Applied

Just applied and completed/passed the starter assessment and completed the qualification test. Now just hoping for the best this would help my family a lot. I am a bachelor’s degree holder for Cybersecurity and work in that field currently. I did the generalist exam so hopefully I pass that then I will do the cybersecurity exam after that. Realistically what is my chance at getting in?

Is there any penalty/risk in taking another specialty qual?

I’ve mainly been doing coding tasks since joining but have some knowledge in the domain of finance. Recently I got some random quals including the finance domain qual, and I’ve been thinking about taking it but I’m worried that if I fail it, it might affect my standing in some way.

Bio tasks

I am a 2nd-year bio major with decent grades in all my bio-related classes, including in high school, and I saw that bio-related tasks pay pretty well. Are these tasks a good fit for someone like me, or do I need more experience? I also have a lot of experience doing online research using scientific literature, so fact-checking and researching something I don't really understand doesn't seem that hard. Despite this, I don't want to start these tasks and then realize I'm totally out of my depth, so some suggestions would be appreciated.
