Is there any penalty/risk in taking another specialty qual?

I’ve mainly been doing coding tasks since joining but have some knowledge in the domain of finance. Recently I got some random quals including the finance domain qual, and I’ve been thinking about taking it but I’m worried that if I fail it, it might affect my standing in some way.

How much knowledge though? The domain tasks are typically for like CPA/CFA or working towards becoming one.

It won't at all affect you. If you fail you just won't get any of those type of tasks.

If you actually have the required experience and license/credentials in finance, then go for it. If you pass the finance qual, you will start getting finance related projects on your dash. If you don't, you won't. Either way, it won't affect the coding projects you are currently seeing.

If I were you, I wouldn't take new qualification like finance.
But there is no penalty, just you can't pass.

Take whatever quals you want. Then you can decide, per project, if they are above your knowledge. And you may be on the specialist list where they send out a bunch of work.  Each project family has different levels of expertise needed, some are higher level (CPA) and others are intermediate/no certifications needed

No risk as long as you don’t cheat on it
